1970: Jimi and then, three weeks later on October 7th, Janis. “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair…”

I see Janis has her “new” look back. I’m wondering what the kids will say when they see her. I’m betting Gus will have a thought or two…just not sure he’ll say anything about it when he sees her next.

I really don’t care for Janis’ new look ……. just saying. Then again, I hated it when she did the “big” change many years ago. Both of those things said, back then, Jimmy had a website poll about Janis changing her “big” hair. We voted. but Jimmy did the change regardless. As I remember, afterwards, he called the poll a bit of “weasel words.” If the website still existed, maybe he would have “goofed” with us all again THIS time ….. ha ha

How about all the TV ad jingles? Doublemint Gum, Buick, Chevrolet, PineSol, Hamm’s, Folger’s, Maxwell House, Salerno Butter Cookies, Oscar Meyer, the mulititudinous cigarette ads, (to name just a few with not enough caffeine in my system yet, cuz there’s tons more)!!!

Kris Kristofferson’s Me and Bobby McGee was my mother-in-law’s favorite song. She once was front and center at the stage enjoying him do it live and the family all sang it after her funeral. RIP to both of them.

I sang the Lipton commercial from the early 70s and got told by my friends that I was horrible. They had it stuck as an earworm for hours. Even after I tried a different commercial.

Some years back there was a collection of CDs with television theme songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond. I used to play them in my car on trips sometimes. Loads of fun — my sons even liked them. You might still be able to find them for sale.

Once again, I’m loving everyone’s comments today. I grew up in Japan, where my family did not have a TV (early 1960s), so really only watched TV from about age 10 to 18, when I moved away from home. I remember most of those shows, although I may not have seen them regularly. I liked M*A*S*H, but only saw it when I visited friends who watched it. Same with Remington Steel. etc. My dad was hooked on Dallas & Dynasty, so (unfortunately) I saw more of those than I wanted to.

Husband and I were each raised by a dad who loved music. So not only are we are both well acquainted with the music of our lives – we both also appreciate the music of the 1930s and 40s.

Add in that we are 18th century reenactors and that’s a lot of music we appreciate.

Saw Kris live at Meadowbrook in the 70’s and it was custom to take a picnic and get there early for the lawn seats. Kris was warming up in the pavilion and invited all of us “lawn spawn” down to the expensive seats and gave us a short concert of our own. It was awesome.
