Ah. Here comes the “con.” And I must say Tiffany was taken in quite easily. Too easily. No “Engagement.” No “Marriage Announcement.” No “Pregnancy.” Just Good Old Fashion “Tug on Your Heart Strings” Lies. It worked on Pru and it looks like its about to work on Tiffany.
I’m disappointed in Tom Farrell. But I’m even MORE disappointed in Tiffany here.
This Gal is gonna NEED “Help” from some other “quarter…….,” (COUGH, COUGH, “Al Gray”)
Tiffany should do herself a favor and contact her dad and VERIFY this so called “Health Problem.”
I do not think they make hip boots tall enough to trudge through $#!+ that deep. Of course, Tiff is going for it lock, stock, and barrel. That’s probably the barrel Tom will be wearing when Annie gets done with him.
Hmmm…surely Bermice will ask Tiffany whether she “got through” to her Dad, don’t you think…? Will Bernice save Tiff from falling for this evil ploy? (It’s been a long time since I’ve actually liked Bernice. I hope it happens.)
So let’s see if Tiffany is just going to take the known liar and con artist at her word here.Of course even if it was breaking his heart, how is that her problem? He certainly didn’t care about her opinion before, now did he? She really should tell them both to shove it. If she doesn’t feel comfortable with Ann in her life she shouldn’t be pressured to act differently, and if Tom is really that broken up about the whole thing then he should have the guts to tell her himself.
I call BS. If he was that concerned about Tiffany accepting a woman in his life he would not have picked this one. Besides this is something older parents live with all the time. How do you get your adult children to accept the new love in your life? For one thing you don’t pick a witch with a capital B.
A good liar will jump on the truth any time it benefits them. If Tom is in love with Ann – it seems likely that he WOULD be broken up by his daughter not accepting it. Ann is laying down an Ace in this hand. Tiff – and the rest of us – have to wait for the next hand. Extremely clever how G & K elevate the suspense by not showing us Tom from the front – we have to wonder if Ann might actually be attracted to Tom and not just his money. For me, Ann will be more interesting if she waxes human from time to time. I thought it was touching when she tried to get Les to call her “Mom” – to no avail. And I suspect Ann was ready to let Les barter with the lingerie customer list – because by that time Les was holding the job that Al Gray set up for him – possibly with Ann’s support.
I have a vivid picture in my mind of Rhett Butler in tears because he can’t get Scarlett O’Hara to love him. It worked in Gone With the Wind, but it doesn’t work here. Clark Gable was able to convince the audience of his sincerity. Tomcat Farrell is only able to convince others that he is a miserable, insignificant piece of inhumanity. The more I see of him, and that isn’t much, the more I am repulsed by him. He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.
Tiffany has so far been able to call out Anne on her lies and deceit. I seriously doubt she’ll fall for this either since she knows Anne’s true nature. But I also don’t doubt it will hurt her relationship with Daddy Dumb-bucks even further.
Grifter’s trumph. I really think Ann has Tiffany’s dad all stressed for real, even though if he merely loved his daughter by paying attention to her, by relating to her in a human, father-daughter way, instead of treating her as some monetary investment that is problematic, he might be a long way toward relieving his “stress”. Ann is a master manipulator, but it remains to be seen if Tiffany is going to be manipulated toward the end that Ann wants, which is control, or will she reject this obvious con, and essentially leave her father forever (or at least until he comes to his senses somehow, does not look good). The stakes here are amazingly high. I am rooting for Tiffany, whatever happens.
This is not believable to me. If this were true, Tom (Dad) would have had lunch alone with Tiffany and discussed how important it is to him to have Tiffany accept Ann because she makes him happy. It is not Ann’s place to do this. The strip still would go in the same direction, and be a lot more believable. Ann could still do her evil deeds and when Tiffany wants to rat her out, remind Tiff that it would upset her father….and he will blame Tiffany for the strife. But I call BS to this strip today. In fact, if I were Tiffany, once I realized Dad’s “health” was not in danger, I would get up AGAIN and walk out.
there should be a dislike button along with a like button for these comics is her father that mean or whimpy that he’d let his girlfriend play with his daughters emotions hopefully Tiffany will not be portrayed as stupid enough to just believe ann without talking to her dad privately without the witch around – this is so ridiculous even for a comic strip
“Well, Ann, I guess one of us will have to get out of his life. He can have me back any time he wants, he just has to talk to me. Really, talk to me. He left, when I asked him to stay. I will be here tomorrow, tell him if he wants me in his life, to come alone and we will discuss what he should do about you. When knows all the facts, he can decide which of us he wants in his life. I’m leaving now, enjoy your meal and your bottle of warm, scented oil.”
Tiff should then follow up with a text or voice mail to her dad’s phone: “Dad, Ann says you want me back in your life. You can have me, if you are willing to have a nice father-daughter talk. Meet me tomorrow, ALONE, at the same restaurant and we can have that talk. I look forward to it.”
Hmmm. Something’s fishy in Denmark. (Broward County, too. Bwaaa, haaa, haaa!)
I see a con in the making. However Ann’s attempt at spontaneous humor doesn’t seem to fit her character. I mean… The Wicked Witch of the West never made a joke in passing. Neither did the evil Queen in “Snow White.” Just sayin’.
UNLESS!
Ann suddenly becomes reformed and serious re Tom Farrel. Then becomes Tiff’s step mom. Which complicates the relationship dynamics with Les and Gunther. Etc., and so forth. That would take this portion of the strip into a whole ’nother orbit!
Interesting… but I don’t think GnK will go there. But! I’ve been wrong before.
I predict, sometime down the road, there will be a “perp walk” of Tom Farrell for securities trading activities, and Tiffany and Ann will be left standing there with their jaws dropped.
I would like Tiff to start by swearing at her like an old trucker. lobbing the f-bombs and sh*ts of sorts at her with out a care in the world even if it means others are looking at her being offended..
Tiffany has been presented from the beginning as not being very smart. Given that background, she will probably fall for this.
All she really needs to do is gather the folks who have been conned or hurt by Ann and get them together with her dad for an intervention. He may not believe one or two, but the crowd that would show up should convince him.
Ann is LYING about Tom Crying. The Wicked Witch Of Pitts” has never seen Him “cry.”Yet.
But I think Tom WILL cry “IF” Tiffany says: “Dad, I love You. But I can’t bear the thought of you being destroyed by this “woman.” I love you because you took care of me all these years, and you did it alone. You deserve some happiness. And if this “person” makes you happy, then so be it. But It’s Time I moved out on own and took care of myself. So, I’m dropping out of college and getting a job. Then I’ll find a place to stay. Just remember, I’ll always Love You, Dad!” Followed by a tearful kiss on Tom’s cheek, followed by her turning her back on him and leaving without another word.
Tom will cry then, COUNT on it. I honestly think Tom has always been more Clueless than Heartless. And once his only flesh and blood is gone, it may slowly dawn on him that there are several billion other attractive females on the planet. And most of them are not blood sucking vampires. Pershaps THEN, he start to divest himself of Ann once and for all.
Tiffany should just be nice to Ann and let her think she accepts her. Then Ann may let her guard down and Tiff may be able to spend some time alone with her father.
Ann is a master manipulator and is not above twisting the truth to make herself look good. Her twisted logic that others are the problems and she is the “constant” good.
Tom “Ferret Face” Farrell, if caught crying, was probably out of depression about losing his relationship with Tiffany because of Ann.
Ann probably promised the dad that she would patch things up with Tiffany and “atone” for whatever misgivings that Tiffany has against Ann. BUT, as the master of manipulation, Ann now twists the circumstances that it is Tiffany’s fault.
Ann is a pro at manipulating people. Tiff is a young person and will be told not to bother her father about his ‘health problem’ Ann will get hers in the end though. This is Luann after all.
Go home, Tiffany, and call the cops to report Ann’s lingerie party fraud. Maybe Tom will reassess his relationship when he sees his intended doing a perp walk.

I’m surprized Ann was actually ‘honest’ (maybe not the right word) about the sports aspect (Farrell might cry if his favorite team was losing). That said, Bern is right; Ann is a parasite. She figures out a person’s weakness and then preys on it.
Judging from his track record, Tom seems to be money wise and female gullible. Tiff’s mother dumped him and her baby…. classy lady. Years pass and he doesn’t seem to be very interested in his daughter, but here he is again shacking up with another lying con-lady. Is there a pattern here? I understand that he even voted for the last lady to run for president.
What should happen: Tiff pulls out her cell phone and calls her dad. “Dad? Ann is telling me you sit around crying your eyes out because I won’t accept her as my new ‘mom’. Is that true?”
We then get to see Ann climbing over the table trying to wrestle the phone away from Tiff.
I know, never gonna happen. But it would be funny. :D
I hate to be too logical, but if they’d just called the police when they figured out Ann was selling counterfeit lingerie, none of this would be happening now. Of course, then there’d be no story line, so… :)
