ya know it’s funny 1. Les is getting into the spirit of Cosplay and 2. how Les got the costume that suits him and his goatee makes it seem part of his costume funny enough
Lets have a little applesauce with that ham. Just as a I thought Les has a bit of song and dance man in him; it’s nice to see him smile and act silly. Funny too. HILARITY ENSUES!
Les’s look is complete with a horrible old sports coat from the thrift store, and viewers eagerly write in comments about Gunther’s scary little bat eyes.
Damn, Les is photo bombing the podcast as a Three Musketeer and the hair makes him look like a throwback from an old ’80s hair band like Twisted Sister, Poison or Cinderella (minus Amy Rossi or the twin chick groupies) back in the day…. But hey, he is embracing the moment and it might result in an uptick of viewers for Bets and Gun. Has Les found his calling in life?
One would think with the way Bets initially reacted to seeing Les at the gulag after their disastrous Date – Pic date, she would instead be pulling that scarf around his neck into a tourniquet.
COOL! I love serious shows with a silly and uncontrollable disturbance presence that suddenly appear. Mostly, because talking so seriously about something you do for fun seems really weird to me. Nice to see Bets helps Les in doing a better cosplay.
You know in the spirit of my hilarity ensues tag, the whole set of panels is ironically funny. Bets and Gun(thers) production is so serious, while being funny to those not in cosplay assumedly, by the couple themselves being talk show serious while in costume—I would be confused then amused at least if I happened upon this channel by accident—but Les being out of type in a funny, showy way only makes it funnier. It certainly is a nice change from the troubling despair of the Luann/Bernice arc, and the drama of the Tiffany/Ann arc.
Bets and Les make a really cute couple! Would it be possible to have that happen? I don’t think I’ve ever seen them write a breakup where one of the people starts dating a mutual friend, but it happens all the time.
Tune Frosty the Snowman…“must have been some magic in that old – hat he wore!” Lol! Who’d of thunk it that Les would let his hair down! So is he really a “ham” or does he want to “belong” and have fun. Let the analysis begin! ;-D
So, they are “on”…. and it must be a live stream, I guess. Just a few thoughts….
1. Gunther’s face (lower face, jawline) look considerably fuller in the Batman costume than in his typical, un-costumed self.
2. Les’ white, frilly add-on…. looks like a reasonable replica of the front of Seinfeld’s “puffy shirt” so it does work with the rest of his get-up.
3. Gunther’s semi-cheesy, semi-broadcaster-y smile in today’s panels seems the antithesis of the typical, moody, broody Batman.
4. Even though today’s joke is the juxtaposition of Bets’ statement….. “…the serious side of costuming…” with Les’ near Vaudevillian dance routine……. honest question….. Is there a “serious” side to costuming? And, if so, what is it? And, more broadly, what would be a “serious” side to costuming at a Cos-play event?
To me, the typical “costuming” I have done has been a) as a kid, trick-or-treating and then gorging on the sugary treats, or b) as an adult going to a Halloween party and having a few drinks, acting silly, and just being casual….. neither of which would allow me to think of costuming as “serious”.
My favourite cosplayer puts time and imagination into her costumes and so far has only played the characters she voices. Her Batgirl and Poison Ivy are great (she has done Ivy in games) but she really shines when she does Twilight Sparkle. And others are just as good. A few years ago one of my daughters went as Amy Pond. I shaved my beard and put on a bowtie and a tweed jacket and braces (suspenders). We won as best group less than three.
“Les didn’t get the memo” is the obvious response. More interesting, though, is, who would have thought of sullen Les as such a screwball showman with only the transforming magic of a froo-froo costume! It’s MAGIC!
I’ve been a geek most of my life. I may have been trying to grow Spock ears in utero or try the jedi mind trick on the doctor who slapped me (this is not the fanny your looking for). The geek stuff has been an escape from the the seriocity of normal life. IMHO, if somebody is having a serious discussion about Cosplay, they are doing it wrong.
Les comes out of the cosplay closet. And if they wanted to talk about the serious side of costuming, how about showing someone actually getting into costume and not just some lame outfits that everyone else wears hence not batman or star trek.
Someone has probably already posted this, but when I saw Les doing his "dance’ I was reminded of the old Bugs Bunny show intro with him and Daffy singing:
Overture, curtain lights—————This is it, we’ll hit the heights,——————And oh, what heights we’ll hit!—————On with the show this is it!
Also, someone commented either today or yesterday that Gunth’s black-button eyes looked liked doll’s eyes, and I was reminded of the comment Capt. Quint made in the first Jaws movie: “Ever see a shark’s eyes up close? It’s got lifeless eyes, like a doll”s eyes…."
Probably not an exact quote, but near as I can remember right now.
@ZeMaster: I see the sadness of the arc of Bernice and Luann in the opposite way you and other posters here do. I see Luann continuing to think of Bernice as an old pal, when, in fact, Bernice has lost interest in Luann — just as the Evanses appear to have lost interest in her. The Evanses seem to have been reading a lot of the posting here, and have decided to discard many of Luann’s previously shown good attributes (saving Bernice’s life with CPR, spending time taking good care of kids, showing talent for art and arranging of stage shows). Instead, the Evanses seem to have decided to show Luann as ‘losing her marbles’.
