It’s not that hard folks. I learned how to do it in Bootcamp.

When I went to my 10th high school reunion, I had to hem up a pair of slacks to wear in a hurry. Stapling them worked wonderfully until I finally hemmed them properly. I can sew if necessary, and when I was young and lived in Massachusetts (during the time we were snowed in) I learned to knit. LOL, to this day, I can still cast on and knot a nice bookmark in about 20 minutes. The football player Rosie Grier (played for New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams) used to knit, so I do not feel to bad about that little talent.

Note to TJ: that staple will not hold that button on for long…

Isn’t kind of obvious just by looking at the button.

I’d express disbelief that neither of these two know how to look up “how-to” websites or videos online, but I’ve met plenty of people in the real world who don’t know how to do that either. Of course all those people were a lot older than Brad and Toni here, but I figure this strip is just Greg’s boomer mindset showing through again.

Sort of like when Luann and Bernice recently spent their day staring off into space because Greg forgot that young people have smartphones these days.

There used to be a product sold in the 60’s – 70’s that used plastic “studs” to connect buttons to shirts,etc.It was advertised on TV…

I wonder if the strip acknowledged YouTube or Google, could they still swing this kind of humor. That’s one thing Nancy’s author, Olivia, does solidly. Seeing Nancy attend school virtually didn’t limit her characteristics. Frazz does a decent job too.

DARN! I finally remembered to check GoComics again, but I’d forgotten about my comments in the strip from 3 days ago and a bunch of people had replied! And when I check in today, Bets isn’t in the strip so nothing more can really be said.

At least it’s good to see Toni & TJ again! Though Toni kind of loses a lot of her “edge” in these domestic strips, to the point where I almost forget what her character was originally like. Never mind the hidden depths we had for TJ like 10+ years ago that were never followed up on. He’d be a fun character to revisit in depth, actually- he’s been kind of a forgotten one for ages now.

Oh for cripes sake! I learned how to sew buttons on when I was five! How hard is it?

Though I have to admit, that was kind of clever of TJ, though slamming it down like that could have broken the button

So sad when two adults have no idea of how to do basic reparations. Fortunately they have TJ in their lives♡.

I know how to sew a button, but it’s the limit of my sewing skills. If you need your pants hemmed, iron on a patch.

That’s one way to do it.

Funny…. I have a button that needs sweing on m’self. I think I have one of those “Buttoneer” machines that may do it. I just have to find it.

Anyone with common sense can figure it out. Unfortunately, common sense is not that common anymore.

Has anyone ever actually done that? I would assume it would just shatter the button or the staple wouldn’t be big enough to reach all the way through/around it and the fabric.

Fabric tape is a thing. There’s a kind that’s heat activated with an iron and a kind you just press together like double-sided tape. You can easily fix a hem with it. I wouldn’t necessarily expect Brad or Toni to know that, but I would think they could look at a sewn-on button long enough to figure out how to reattach one that’s come off. (Having a needle and thread is another story, though…)

Spared the two twenty-year-old women channelling Seinfeld this week.

I’m not sure what’s so difficult about sewing on a button. Thread a needle, up through one hole and down through another. Rinse and repeat several times. Tie it off. Sorted.

I’m thinking that would probably snap a plastic button.

Whereas I do know how to sew on a button in the traditional method, I once connected a large button on a jacket using a small cable tie. It works, perfectly, and is much stronger than using thread. Also, for reconnecting the button to one’s jeans, there are snap on buttons that work very well.

I learned when I was maybe 7 or 8, from watching my mom.

I’m sure there’s a YouTube video on how to sew a button.

I hope the staple prongs are curved in on the other side, or it’s going to get somewhat unpleasant…

Thread needle. In from the back of the fabric, out through the hole in the button, back in through another hole. Repeat.

This is why I thought boys should take at least one course in Home Economics (or whatever they’re calling these days – it changed 5 times while I was teaching, but i digress) and girls should take at least one course in Shop. (ditto)

I’ve never seen a button thin enough to be stapled on.

I was never taught how to sew on a button, either, but I’ve done it tons of times. It’s not hard. Needle, thread, poke it through the fabric and through the button holes until everything stays put. Throw in a few knots to make sure it stays, and PRESTO, the button is sewed on. Granted, it may not look the best, but surely people have something better to do than scrutinize my buttons.

Ahh… millennials! What a braintrust for our beloved future.

It’s not hard to figure out. I was sewing buttons back on by the time I was 8. I learned by watching my mother do it and looking at the stitches on the other buttons to get the order.

If I tried that, either the button or stapler would break.Guess sewing, mending, darning and patching have gone the way of cursive writing. Now they sell pants with holes and rips. Such a disposable society. A shame.

Brad should get Luann to show Shannon how to sew on buttons. Brad & Toni could give Shannon $1 per button.

If you make sure you don’t staple the ends together,nor ruin the button, it’s quite a life hack.

A friend ripped her scrubs and I was surprised that she didn’t know how to sew a simple repair. She thought I was being sexist but I’m a guy and was taught how to do that by my mother and thought that most people of our age group knew it.

I’ve dealt with the wear hole in a pocket with a patch of cloth and glue. Sometime I’ll go the youtube video to see a ‘right way’

Where did they get a stapler sized to fit shirt Buttons?

And, how many different size staplers do I need to buy since Buttons come in so many varieties & sizes?

I will say that having one of those button specific types of staplers work great. I love mine. I do usually add some needle work to hold the buttons on AFTER stapling because those plastic staples make it much easier to do.

Get a Buttoneer.

Cause it’s so complicated to sew a button. What, you don’t have Youtube?
