Now Piro’s sadness is more clearly understood. What isn’t clear to me, though, is why he thinks he can trust B and turn to her for help…

That’s is rough on Piro, He trying to the best, for his 3 step -Sibs and 3 half-sibs, I’m glad he’s opining up.

With all those responsibilities, WHEN did Piro have time to go skydiving with Tara??

I care for my mother. She’s elderly and disabled, Dad died over two years ago, the rest of the family’s kind of fragmented and splintered, so there’s really no one else to care for her but me. She feels she’s a burden, but I tell her it’s come full circle: she took care of me when I was unable to in my young age, and now I take care of her when she’s unable to in her old age.

Piro, this is a job for Child Protective Services. Your mother is incapable of handling them, their father and / or step father is not doing anything to raise them. You, Piro, have separated from your family. You are an adult. You need to look after your own welfare. Let the State do what it sets out to do.

Learning more about him in a few days than we have in the last entire year.

His mother had three kids after having a stroke?

Piro needs help from someone far more qualified than Bernice. But maybe, he just came to vent—something impossible to do with Tara or Luann.

At least today Bernice is listening to him and not being self-congratulative over her “capabilities”. Maybe there IS hope for her.

I don’t think anyone saw this coming. I’m glad he opened up about his situation.

Piro has it rough. I can understand him trying his best to take care of the kids and not letting them become wards of the state because of how much he loves them. Hopefully, as the oldest kids get older, they will help out with taking care of the family.

If you’ve had a stroke, you will ALWAYS have issues. There’s no recovering from that 100%.

Piro, always bundled up and wearing a scarf. His skin doesn’t breathe and with all those kids around, he probably doesn’t get to take a shower as often as he should. I can almost smell the sweat. Sad story, but he can sleep out in the barn with the goats tonight.

Interesting back-story to Piro. Does this make him more attractive to Bern?

I really hate the sound callous here… But ultimately, this is not Piro’s problem.

I did not see that coming. Piro needs more than a sympathetic ear. Maybe it’s time for the whole Scooby Gang to act like real friends and give this guy and his family some support.

Nothing wrong in Piro’s life that a little chat with Bernice won’t make worse.

Six siblings. This is something where Luann’s experience would be a valuable aid. Maybe the 5 years old already knows her because is one of the children she takes care of at Kids 4st. Or Tara, who bravely faced that jerk of her cousin. While Bernice feels awkward around her brother’s kids and seems to avoid her own family as much as possible… Seriously, Piro is talking to the wrong person! Even if Bernice’s presence makes him feel safe, there’re no possibilities she’s able to help him. The only hope is that Bernice will have a moment of growth and tell him to ask Luann and Tara for help.

Piro sure has had a really rough life. No wonder he’s such a sourpuss.

Wow, Piro has his hands very, very full. This is, unfortunately, a story that plays out in real life, and it’s not unusual for the person in Piro’s situation to do just like him, and not want to talk about it to outsiders. They don’t want to keep doing it, yet they see no way out. Overwhelmed and trapped.

Bernice, in this situation, just try to be a friend, not a healthcare worker. You’re not prepared for the clinician role, yet. If your school has a student counseling department, then urge Piro to see them for assistance. Offer to go with him, but don’t counsel yourself.

Oh dear. Piro gets all of his moody bad behavior justified because the poor guy has to do extremely part time care giving. Woman up, dude, lose the attitude and ask deadbeat moms new guy for $ to babysit. Seriously, this a problem $ can solve and on behalf of all parents, yes we too are barely managing. Doesn’t justify the tude.

Piro needs help! Why is he keeping all this secret from the Luann crew?

Piro is presumably good with kids, but will likely avoid having any of his own for several years, once he is free of the half-dozen. Meanwhile, he is handsome and mysterious.

Piro is a Chad.

His mom did not marry ,the jerk is living with him mom, he needs to talk to his mom and tell her what he is going to do.

Bernice isn’t going to off-load taking care of these kids on Luann, is she? ’Cause Luann has all that experience handling kids…

So who is the father of those 3 half sibs? Probably not the “new” guy since the youngest is at least 5 years old. I would not refer to someone who’s been with his mom for over 5 years as a “new” guy.

What do you intend to do with that, Bernice? Way beyond your capabilities. Piro needs someone mature that has the skills to truly help him. Poor guy, that’s too much.

“Care? No. Manage? Barely”. I’d say that’s par (average).

That’s quite a gap in child-bearing years for Piro’s mom. She had to have had him when she was very young, then years later she met a man who had three children from a previous marriage (another early starter) and then she had three children with him. Anyway, I hope that’s how it happened, and it wasn’t a series of three unplanned pregnancies over a short period of time before meeting her current partner. Interesting family dynamic.

He really is a star.

He raises 6 children and still has time for all the performative brooding around campus. And he has to get up extra early to shave that star into his head every morning.

A lot of comments here, both good and bad. What I like is that Bernice is actively listening to Piro and Piro has chosen from among all his friends to open up to Bernice. Will she screw this up with bad advice or continue to be a good listener?

And the Piro Pity Party continues. Piro never said the fathers are not doing anything to support their children, all he said was that he is expected to watch them when his mother gets sick. WTH is wrong with Piro being expected to help when his mother gets sick? Piro can’t pitch in and watch the kids when his stepdad is working? And do it with a good attitude? Poor little baby.

“Could you use a little help? You have friends who don’t mind helping. I would not mind looking them up for you.”

All the ladies in the cast are about to make a small fortune in baby-sitting.

Piro has six brothers and sisters and all the girls around him are still virgins and somehow trying to get a handle on THAT BIG a family

This is a time for Bernice to contact Luann, who has done childcare in the past and might be able to help out. And it would make a great writing assignment.

Just think of all the potential sitters from the cast! Besides the college crowd, there’s Fay and Axl from Luann’s summer drama class – we haven’t seen them since 2018, so they could be aged a year or so. (I realize there is much more needed to help Piro and his sibs, but this is primarily a comedy strip and with sitting, hijinks can ensue.)

Since when did this comic strip abandon the “comic” concept and get into psychiatric social work? Let Luann do her Dolly Parton impression again, or have Ox catch Tiffany in the shower wearing nothing but a few soap bubbles. Dump Shannon and give Brad the chance to knock up Toni.
