Well, we got to see Delta’s “sensible” prom gown. And apparently Gunther’s tux is self-healing, or perhaps the extent of the damage done to it by walking though a field of foot-tall grass was rather exaggerated in previous depictions. Quill has shed his tie, so perhaps he’s using it as a tourniquet on his other leg, where the evening’s ordeals have now aggravated an old shark-bite wound.

Have Delta and Bernice done any dancing, or did they spend the entire evening (outside of rescuing their classmates) at the punchbowl table? Anyway, this can’t possibly be the best senior prom they’ve ever attended (even if it’s the only one), because Tiffany organized it. so by definition she did a terrible, terrible job, since she is such a horrible person!!! It’s the LAW!!!

Good ones! – For the Mrs. and I, “Beyond The Sea” by Bobby Darin is our “official” song. – The Bee Gees may be much maligned, but “How Deep Is Your Love” is on the list of songs for my wife and I… along with “Always And Forever”, “Mind What You Find” and “Happiness Togetherness” by Heatwave. -“Dance With Me”, by Orleans is also on that list, along with “Crazy Love” by Poco, “You Are The Woman” by Firefall, “Suddenly” by Olivia Newton John/Cliff Richard, “This Guy’s In Love With You” by Herb Alpert/TJB, “Slow Dancing”, the Johnny Rivers version, “Reminiscing” by L.R.B, and “Follow You Follow Me” by Genesis…..-There’s also ’Love Song" by the Cure, and “This Must Be The Place” by Talking Heads…. though the latter is a more “upbeat” tune….

I’ll add “Today”, by the Jefferson Airplane, to the soundtrack — at least, if anybody still has a record player. Also, “One Night With You”, by Mr. Presley.@ seismic-2: It’s been established already that Quill’s necktie is what’s holding his cummerbund in place.Greg didn’t show it, but there will have been a five-minute session in the school parking lot with Bernice and Delta chasing away gawkers while Gunther broke out his repair kit with tweezers, needle and thread, double-sticky tape, and other odds and ends. Trust me on this, people, a serious costumer is always prepared to fix anything in seconds. For that matter, the hem of Lu’s gown still shows some minor wear and tear. And I continue to insist that Rosa has seen a side of Gunther that she hadn’t anticipated before tonight — and that she likes it a lot!

While Delta, in her slinky red dress, and Bernice, in her strapless mini number, act as cheerleaders for us, the audience, the focus is on Gunther and Rosa, who have progressed to the stage of some serious “Eskimo” noodling and seem to be drawing closer to each other both literally and figuratively. Luann seems momentarily content, but seems also to have a vivid imagination for what might yet transpire with her wounded warrior….

    Dear Greg,

I would like to thank your for doing this arc showcasing Luann and her friends going to prom. I didn’t get the chance to go to my prom. My father had his own business and we had been struggling with finances that year. So, I couldn’t rent the limo or the tux. I also didn’t date much in high school, so I didn’t have a date to take even if I wanted to.

Over the years, I would sometimes sit back and wonder what it would have been like, to go to my prom. But, reading this arc, and looking at the images, my imagination sorely pales in comparison. And it is for this I say “Thank You”.

There are great artists and there are great story tellers. But to be both a great artist and storyteller is truly a unique gift. Thank you for sharing your gift with us.

I eagerly await the arc for the wedding of Brad and Toni.

    A long time fan,

    Daniel R

Gee, this can’t be the end of the prom line. Did anyone dance with Bernice and see how wonderful she looks? What about Tiffany – did she get to dance with anyone(OX), did she become Prom Queen? Quill could at least stand up for a few minutes and hold Luann to the music? Did the goth girl and the good off boy (can’t remember their names) come to the prom? This prom line could have had some great sub stories. I can’t image how difficult it is to do a comic strip everyday, but the car breaking down was just a cliche’. Please let there be more.

-Really?-Are you thinking of sorority parties? That’s the only comparable I can think of. I’ve been to a couple colleges (undergrad and grad) and we had nothing equivalent to a prom.-And I honestly don’t think of Bernice as the sorority type, which is a compliment in my book.-As far as going to every senior prom at a high school, I had a cousin on the cheer squad at her school from freshman year on. She was asked to senior prom every year, so it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

“If we go by past history, it took a lot of work by Rosa to get him in that position.”^But the point is, you can’t say that he doesn’t show/return any feelings…. doesn’t matter if he had to get through “a bunch of stuff”. And the work wasn’t Rosa’s. Credit his “role model”, the “Teflon Tourist (Quill)”, whom he looks up to, since he at least seems pretty smooth… also, it has to come from “want-to” by Gunther, himself…. – “It’s one thing to spontaneously kiss someone and then go right back to being yourself, it’s another to do all of this as if it comes natural.”^It’s not like we all are born with all of these abilities and qualities. Even what qualities we have need some “tune ups”. Or else, there would be no need for a preseason in football, baseball, basketball, soccer, etc… And anybody who’s married can tell you that it takes work to keep it going, and “romance” is something that many guys may know , yes, but it still takes a bit of effort to do …. even Fabio or Denzel Washington (or “insert name here”) may “fumble” (or have fumbled) a bit when it comes to asking their girls out on dates, proposing, and/or marrying them…

I think it’s conventional that seniors are admitted to the senior prom by default, but underclassmen are admitted only as senior’s dates. However, Pitt HS is a pretty unconventional place (e.g., every class is taught by the same guy), so who knows how they do things there.

“Their “La La (Means I Love You)” would also have been a good choice.” ^It’s a nice song! But it’s the one just about everybody knows (same way people only think Greg Kihn has “Jeopardy”, or that Rush is only about “Tom Sawyer”). We wanted to go for something that people would go: “Wow, where did that one come from?”, or “I hadn’t heard that one in a while”, or “Now that’s one that won’t get worn out!”… -Also, of no smaller bit of importance, the lyrics really brought it home more, than “La La…”. -Incidentally, the Jets (of “Crush On You” fame), did a super decent job covering it off of their first album, and except for the fact that it was different singers, kept it just like the original, and never messed it up or turned it into something else, in trying to keep it “fresh” when they did their arrangements….

    “The Slow-comotion”?

Or maybe something by Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Top? ;-)"^Ha ha, those would be more appropriate bands, along with “Jethro Dull”* (* file under humor/parody for a “slow dance”… – I was thinking of them trying to dance to “Footstompin’ Music” or something fast.. I was imagining what if some couple tried to dance to a song with “off-beat” (7/4 time) or fast tune (way more than “four on the floor” disco beats), and how a couple could look trying to keep slow dancing…. of course, a better example would have been a “Megadeth” tune….

I am not sure about all schools, but where my wife and I attended, we had separate junior and senior proms. My son, who is a senior (and valedictorian) indicated that the school he goes to has separate proms also.

Where I went, it was a “combined” Jr/Sr. prom. In essence, the juniors were saying “farewell” to the seniors. And, at that time, it was off-campus in one of the rather swanky banquet halls in the general area (i.e. not the school gym). That may have changed, of late.

But consider this … not everybody “blooms” just before entering college. As some here have stated, they went from “warp 5” to “warp 9” after they came out of college or whatever “transition” they made from H.S. The case could still be made for Gunther to stay, based on his “counter-cool” demeanor. There is a “chance” to see him get “molded and shaped” through the rigors of adjusting to the next stage…. -And there is the possibility out there that could favor those among us who want to see Gunther and Luann. So we still have to wait for September to see what “turns around the corner”…

Karen has said that she has read here, but in effect, only enough to skim, check the count, and skedaddle. They stated a bunch of times that it’s hard for them to stop just to do the blog at “the Studio”, so I doubt they’d peruse with a “fine toothed comb” here. – their FB page offers them a faster means of gauging people’s “temps” and interacting in a relatively “painless” way, as does “Twitter” when they participate in the “feedback sessions” (I think there was one today, actually.)….
