One of these days, the male characters are gonna stop acting like dweebs. Or emotionless robots. Or goofballs. I have a son about to turn 21. He’s been a lot of things over the years. I don’t recall him being like a male character from Luann. C’mon, Greg. I know this is your meal ticket, but would it kill you to permit one or two of your male characters to have a clue and occasionally act like a man?

Tiffany makes the classic mistake. People who are shy or introverted are what they are. They’re not waiting to be ‘fixed’ by outgoing people who think everybody can be the same way.

I wish I would have had a friend like that in my youth.. someone to practice with..

About a half of Bernice’s ill conceived scheme seems to be working. Tiff is psychologically healthier, for once.

He Just hasn’t had a real passionate fire lit under him yet. Rosa was someone he cared for deeply, but there is a difference between caring for and Passionate for. When you hit that level… assertive becomes a matter of course.

I think it’s plausible that Gunther is hesitant to “jump her bones”, without that meaning he is a eunuch or undersexed. He still sees Bernice as the perfect logical match for him. He is a methodical and orderly guy. That’s why I find this humorous, given that Tiffany is a go-for-it gal. Her superpower is to dissolve his armor plating with her heat ray. It’s a thermo-dramatic thing.

Tiff is the only character in this strip who’s even remotely real and who isn’t asking to be strangled.

When I was in high school, I didn’t need instructions if I saw a look as in the second panel.

It would be terribly painful to be Gunther.

NG49… I agree with you that shy or introverted people are what they are, and that Tiffany will not be able to change that.However, an introvert/shy person can change if they want to do so. I am a case in point. I was EXTREMELY shy and introverted from childhood through completing my undergraduate degree. I even took a battery of psychological introvert/extrovert tests to see where I would fall on the spectrum. I hated being shy and introverted. It took quite a while, but with a lot of work during graduate school and a lot of thinking and reasoning through things in my head for those couple of years, I was able to “come out of my shell” so-to-speak. I retook the introver/extrovert tests, and was delighted to find that I fell on the “slightly extroverted” side of the spectrum…. a whole helluva lot of improvement for me. To me, the desire to change took a long time to be able to acted upon in a way that changed me inside. However, I am very glad I was able to do it. Life as a “slight” extrovert is a whole lot better than the way I felt as a horribly shy introvert.

“Tiff “naturally” does it by spending time keeping her body the way it is and learning to be an expert in make up. That is how “natural” it is.”^Makeup and exercise aside, I’m speaking of her presence in addition to her physical form (which, I believe, was is what her character was supposed to be depicted as having “honestly/naturally”).. – She is supposed to be a “femme fatale”, but in a more comics sort of way….

Tiffany says they are practicing, so she is clearing Acting in the second panel. Now if Gunther were to actually kiss her or show any real attraction Tiff would probably go for it, and stop her acting. I think Gunther is a lost cause as a BF and wouldn’t waste any time on that aspect of him.

7Tiffany is very wise and kind this week. I hope that things go well for both of them.

That’s why I’m empathizing with Gunther in today’s strip. If I was with a girl that pretty, alone in her apartment, and she gave me that look, I’d be stammering like an idiot, too.

Gunther should recognize the truth that he’s just not attracted to women. He’s been denying it for awhile, but it’s time to drop the charade.He wanted to get with Bernice only because they have similar interests, not for any romantic reasons.When Rosa kissed him good-bye in Peru, he stiffened up (and not in a good way!). And when the lady from the cosmetic surgery clinic gave him a good-bye hug, he obviously wasn’t enjoying it.The Evanses casually noted Pru’s orientation, so it’s no big deal. Time to do the same with Gunther.

Guys – “working in reverse” means he couldn’t get into the roleplaying because he couldn’t pretend to be into Tiffany because he is just not remotely attracted to her and perhaps finds her revolting. Guys could often kiss, feel girls up, sleep with them if opportunity arises and they don’t have to have feelings for them but they are usually at least attracted to them – guys tend to have “a type.” Gunther is not one of those guys – he probably has to be into the girl to be able to be with her physically at all.

A Tale of a Man Who Was Shy about Dating:

In college as an adult student i had split from my boyfriend of three years because love was quite frankly not enough. We did not get along well in the friendship and trust departments. I had begun dating another man but he knew how i still felt about my old flame who was trying to get me back, so he had a wonderful suggestion.

His suggestion was that i maintain a daily journal with a brief description of my day and a grade for each day. As he expected i realized that i was unhappy when around the old boyfriend, but my happiest days were not ones with the boyfriend who suggested the journal. Instead they were days when i spent time with my shy next door neighbor in the dorm, someone i had not considered as boyfriend material.

The obvious thing happened. The interim boyfriend coukd not deny the results of his journal idea, and i asked out Steve.

I was not the first one to say, “I love you”, though, and that is a very romantic story for a different time since it is a tear jerker. Nor was i the one to propose. About our proposal i will just say this: it was very intimate and first Steve asked me to get “pre-engaged” and then five minutes later he just burst out with, “Oh, i can’t wait! Will you marry me?” Of course, i did.

Steve is not shy in most settings but for dating he was very much so. As a result, i know there is hope for Gunther, just not which approach will work best for him.

Oh, and Steve and i have been a couple for 37 year, married for almost 36 years, and the ex-boyfriend who did not figure out friendship when dating became a friend after i was married.

Can you imagine how long it might have taken the Evanes to perfect the wording and images so well that they have so many possible meanings to consider?

When will Spring Break occur in the 2D world, i wonder?

Wow. I’m not sure if you’re deliberately doing a spot-on caricature of every yahoo I’ve ever seen on the Outdoor Channel, or exactly what that obviously affected persona that you’ve adopted is supposed to be. Whatever it is, I guess it thinks it’s pretty clever. :-\

If Tiffany really wants to be Gunther’s “pal”, she should come right and and tell him that Bernice simply isn’t interested in him. Instead of wasting his time pining after her, he should become friends with some of the female “shadow people” in his classes. He could likely find one who would be a better match for him than Bernice. There are thousands of young women attending Moony Uni, so it’s stupid for Gunther to confine his attentions to the Pitt HS alums (all of whom have spurned him before at some time or other).

I figured out why Gunther’s beard stubble disappeared in the second panel. He was having a flashback to Rosa in HS.

Okay, so that’s three people now who are finding this a painful experience. I hope there’s a final resolution before the week’s out – namely a breakout from “Gunther One-Joke.”

Didn’t Gunther’s first kiss w Rosa have to be inititated by her after he saved her from Les? Of course, he was already interested in Rosa. He might not have at all thought of Tiff that way in recent 2D years.

well… we still have Saturday to go. It might not be like the last panel in the strip posted by Brdshtt but hopefully a little breaking of the ice. If Tiffany is giving Gunther lessons on how to make out, she needs to demonstrate and then say ‘OK, now you do it..’

Oh, man! Gunther is even less than testicularly-challenged here. I think he’s actually dead but just hasn’t dropped yet! How could any guy turn down an offer from a pal like Tiffany to help him with his, err, um, difficulty?

I don’t think Gunther is turning down any offers. He just doesn’t know where or how to start. Tomorrow Tiffany will (hopefully) get him started.

I erased my first response by mistake. when they come up twice and you try to get rid of one of the, they both disappear. One just has to go out of the strip and come back in.

It’s understandable that some of the commenters are impatient with and even dislike Gunther. But all that matters is that Tiffany like him. The very last panel seemed show a bit of surprise or disappointment on Tiff’s face. Will they have another “moment”? Can’t see anything hot developing. Tough call for the Evans, I think.

That last panel. Seems like Tiffany really has feelings from him, and sincerely wants to help the guy get over this. Rewards for both if they do that together.

I can’t really knock on this story arc. Evans is growing up the entire cast, which isn’t easy to do.

I’d like to turn up the heat with Tiff.

“He could very well be asexual”..Could be. If that’s the case, then all of this romance stuff with Gunth is pointless.

And to think that at some point Gunther used to be bold, but this is disappointing in so many levels.

We don’t know that Tiffany feels a romantic attraction towards Gunther. She is an actress. Playing love scenes like this one is what she does.

Tiff should cozy up to Gunther – slowly – and say, “Gunth, don’t worry about giving right now. Just try to relax and receive, OK?”. So it starts with a nice gentle slow kiss on the mouth. After a few seconds, another one. And then just a little small talk (from Tiffany), followed by the occasional gentle kiss. Worth a try.
