Man: do you have a gift registry? Brad: Actually, we don't want any gifts. Toni: We want people to make a donation to firehero.org. Man: Great idea! Man: Very worthy clause. Brad: Anyway, we're gonna have each other. We won't need a fancy blender or "his and hers" towels... Man: You sure won't need an electric blanket for your bed!

enough already, you goof-ball… unless you weren’t kidding about the electric blanket

You could use a ball gag for Mr. Comedian.

This is a firehouse people. Ribald jokes are common. This is so tame, and so sweet. This is a nice way to say that Toni and Brad are passionate, and not materialists. Not a bad thing to be.

I’m waiting for the moment where someone tells Mr. Smiley II something and we find out he really does not have a jaw that is locked open (except when eating). Otherwise, it seems to be permanently that way.

So when is Brads bachelor party and Toni’s girls night out party.

Somebody should shut wise guy up before Brad has to…
TexanAtHeart about 8 years ago
Looks to me like the fireman behind him is keeping an eye on the joker. Anyway, a little teasing is part of the deal.
King_Shark about 8 years ago
So she said “firehero, that’s one word, dot awrg”? “Dor oh ar jee”?
Rocknaww about 8 years ago
Mr. Smiley is very tame. Firefighters/law enforcement/military and most groups where people rely on each other in life and death situations tend to be very close and joke around a bit more than your typical office mates.

What a nice way to bring attention to an organization like firehero.org.

People will give them gifts anyway. Hope they have a table for them at the reception.
Mikeyj about 8 years ago
They don’t want presents… nice sentiment, but, not terribly practical; the idea is to give newlyweds a nice head start.

HEY.. It sounds JUST like the election this year. I wonder if that was intended….

Mr Smiley is the most annoying character since the art teacher

The guy on the far right has a look on his face that says, “Jeez, buddy – how crass can you get?”
LoriRN1963 about 8 years ago
Since Toni has been living on her own for quite a while, she may not really NEED anything, so a donation is nice. People will still buy them stuff, so a registry is good just to get things that you actually want.

Please consider supporting the 15th annual National Stair Climb on 29 October. The Stair Climb commemorates the efforts of the 343 members of the FDNY, the 37 Port Authority Police officers and 23 NYPD officers who were killed on September 11th, 2001. The 2200 stair steps of the climb represent the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Money collected goes to various charitable organizations that support families and co-workers of fallen fire fighters.

Nice way to handle the whole gift-giving thing, B&T! Enjoyed the strip this week. A very un-typical wedding shower, and although many are for couples these days, there are not many held as a surprise like this one. Well done!

Any guy worth his salt can take a little good-natured ribbing. Of course, this is too world so who knows.

Brad: “What do you mean, we’re not going to need an electric blanket? Is that some kind of sexual joke?”
Mr. Goofball: “Uh, no, I mean that we all live in the San Diego area. It doesn’t get very cold in the winter here.”
ACTIVIST1234 about 8 years ago
This is cute on so many levels!1) Mr. Comedian is officially off the “invite” list.2) Someone brings gifts even if you say “no gifts”3) Mr. Comedian wants to make sure they keep the hots.
.
Yeah, this banter is so much more fun than the usual polite talk/gossip at the bridal showers I went to as a kid.
Schrodinger's Dog about 8 years ago
for some reason that one guy reminds me an awful lot of the same drawing style as “The Jetsons”.

General banter continues today. The verbose, slightly crass guy is still spouting his “humor” which is to be expected from his personality.
.
It is interesting to note the firehero.org mention. I wonder, if the initial wedding date of 9/11 was picked by Greg…. with the firehero.org site already in his mind, so that it would have all tied in together? Perhaps the website mention was to be a “surprise” of sorts to go with the date. Then because of the initial discontent by many about the 9/11 date, Greg changed it…. but still is able to use the plug for the firehero.org site?
.
I also noticed a few others on other comics talking about spacing and typing issues at GoComics. I too am noticing a higher challenge in having spaces not initially show and sometimes letters not show….. and this is not just typing errors on my part…. it seems to be something on the site. Hopefully, it is only temporary.

Yup. No electric blanket is needed in CALIFORNIA!! They will need tissues though from Brad crying because even after he gets married, he won’t be getting any from Toni.

OMG THIS is risque? Are you some of you serious? Some real prudish type here. I have heard ministers tell more ‘daring’ things.
Susan123 about 8 years ago
I think the strip reflects real life like someone else said, a little teasing is in order. Gives the whole strip realism.

Mr. Comedian reminds me of everyone’s favorite uncle. Loud, annoying to mom & dad, funny, and they’ve got to invite him because he’s family. (Also, he usually has alcohol on his breath and is a reputed bad influence on the straight-laced young people)
Happy Cat Premium Member about 8 years ago
The comedian reminds me of Chet Kelly on the old 70s tv show Emergency

I am going through the Toni and Brad strip albums at
.
http://luannfan.com/collections/
.
Album 15 and 16 are romantic fun for me. I think those episodes must have run when i had very ill older family members and some friends lost (There were six family members over just a few years and during that time also three friends in the same year.) so i missed a during those times.
.
Album 17 is not working, and album 18 is not yet up.
.
People who have not checked out those compilations of past strips will want to!

Mr. Perpetually smiling firefighter has to be some relative of Newt’s, right?
Sisyphos about 8 years ago
Firehero.org? Okay. No gifts.
But would someone tell that thoughtless loudmouth to stuff it? Or else, maybe use that sandwich to stuff it for him….
thomas93 about 8 years ago
I am no longer going to read this ’tune because of how Team Evans never finishes any plots in order to sustain interest in a comic strip plagued with his trite and mediocre writing. He just dropped the Les story line. And what happened to the insinuation of insurance fraud about TJ? etc etc
I will miss the friends I made on this comments board. I wish everyone the best and enjoyment in their comic strip reading.
Cheers,
Tom
