Luann just said that Jack is no one’s boyfriend. Now, Tiffany can ask him if he would like to go out. Ok, Greg, let this be the chance your perpetual underdog needs.
so let me get this straight. DID RINGO CHANGE GENDER? Seems all previous posts are GONE, and now the new TEAFANNY ‘fishnet-dragger’ is here constantly making inane Tiffany pronouncements.
Luann invited Jack and this is Luann’s show. Tiffany jumping in to participate is not cool. Tiffany should say bye bye to everybody and proceed to her office or whatever. Tiff has dated Jack – so she has his phone number, etc.
The more things change, the more they remain the same. G+K’s way of putiing across the point. Guess irking Luann is second nature to Tiff, and this arc just tells us she’s well on her way back to “normal”.
Tiffany knows she just won. Not that Luann really wanted Jack but now Tiffany can go after him, just to show Luann how she can get any man she wants and that Luann is just a lonely loser.
Luann start to be jealous. This may be the occasion for her to think really if she like Jack like a friend or more. And Jack looks totally clueless about Tiffany.
You know I think the idea that a male and female college students can be friends is being explored here, although I also think Jack might have feelings for Luann. Tiffany is a normal, young woman and is attractd to Mr. Man. Of course that aggravates Luann. How far that aggravation goes remains to be seen. And precisely why.
Okay just an observation here. “Folks” have been DEMANDING that Luann spend more time in her own Strip. Actually, they got their wish the first of the the year, with the “Luann paints her room,” Arc. And Yet they complained. Then they got the “Dog Park Arc.” “Folks” complained again. Now We got Luann back once more doing what SHE and Tiffany have ALWAYS done and done BEST: Pointlessly COMPETE over some Guy. THAT is what they did all through high school. That’s what they are ABOUT to do now. That’s what kept Luann the “Star” of her Strip until her brother, Brad DeGroot, Upstaged her 17 years ago.
And “How” did Brad do that? Because Greg decided to make a Positive and PERMANENT change in Brads Physical Appearance and Personality, introduced a NEW CHARACTER (Toni Daytona) that the majority of the fans LIKED, and he put Brad in an Temporary situation where He was the underdog and fans ROOTED for him. And Brad WON. “Put a character thru Hell, but get Him (or Her) OUT of it and let him (or Her) WIN.” It’s a “Formula” that WORKED. It’s a “Formula” that SHOULD be used again and not just with My favorite Nerd, Gunther. But it Should START with him. Tiffany SHOULD Win. Gunther SHOULD Win. Tiffany and Gunther SHOULD WIN EACH OTHER. Al least for a while.
Daily Rant Out. We Now Return You to Our Regularly Scheduled Cat Fight.
I don’t understand why Luann is so invested in Jack. He’s not her ideal. she wants a hunk who is a complete nerd. Much like the Doctor. (Doctor Who Reference for anyone who doesn’t understand.)
While technically drawn well and scripted tightly…. today’s effort leaves me flat. It feels (to me) like a total retread of the same thing we have seen between Luann and Tiffany numerous times. Hopefully tomorrow it will migrate in some fashion so there is a new twist to how this is progressing.
I wonder if Jack is going to be a recurring character at this school where Luann and Tiff work. Tiff looks like she is working on Jack – she will probably try to get her hooks in him like she did with Quilly during the summer play. Some things never change.
I think a good trend would be for Tiff to do the exercises with Jack and the kids. She trims down to the way she once looked and is bored with Jack and dumps him. Jack then turns to Luann for solace.
Where Ferrell is concerned, Luann has always has a ridiculously fragile ego, and never more so than here. Allowing herself to be distracted into peevishly making an irrelevant declaration on the guest’s relationship status, instead of ignoring it and saying “I don’t know” or “I’m sure he is.”
Moreover, since Luann does not appear to be romantically interested in Jack, she should have no objection whatsoever to Tiffany flirting with him. Jack is a rather obvious choice to date Tiffany, not that he seems to actually notice her flirting.
I appreciate the Evanses’ idealistic depiction of kindergartners, even if it’s probably not grounded in reality. I haven’t been around kindergartners since being one of them a few decades ago, but I’m guessing you would have to go to another reality to find an entire classroom full of five-year-olds trained to address adults as Mister/Miss.
@lonesomepoint: Just recently, there was a national case of a young boy who was reprimanded by his teacher for repeatedly calling her ’ma’am’ (as he’d been taught by his parents to address a woman, but the teacher had asked him not to), and he was required to write the word over and over again on a paper as a punishment. His mother met with the school principal and the teacher, and presented the definition of ’ma’am’, written by her son. The mother requested that her son be assigned to a different homeroom teacher, and the principal agreed…
Besides hardly being a “slut,” Tiffany comes out of this strip looking fairly restrained and frankly more dignified than Luann. Arguably, no “flirting” actually occurred here. All Tiffany did was smile dreamily and say “okay” when Jack made a statement that may have referred to exercise. Basically, she acted as though Jack flirted with her, and many seem to think that constitutes her flirting with him.
The character who comes out looking good here is Jack. He’s not clearly doing anything except encouraging the kids to exercise. Meanwhile, Luann is behaving petulantly while Tiffany is inappropriately fawning over a man in front of kindergartners.
Jack makes Tiffany’s heart go pit-a-pat! Well! Remember Luann blushing when Jack turned up as a life model in an art class? I once read that blushing was “secret pleasure.” If so, LuAnn’s heart skipped a few beat over Jack also. So what’s the heartburn (pun intended) over Tiff?

I sure hope Greg is not planning some sort of Luann based Muppet Babies spin-off.
So far there is a Miniature Bernice which stands out and extremely obvious.
But there is also a miniature Brad, Gunther, and the silhouetted kid in front Tiff in the first panel could be a miniature Delta.
