“No one will win the “war between the sexes,” too much collaborating with the enemy." No sure where I heard this, but I think it is fun. There is also a huge overlap in of characteristics, variations… life.
I’m one of those males who cry seeing movies. I love it when a story can make you feel emotionally connected to the characters and make you feel sad or happy for them. I just can’t understand people who are totally indifferent when they are seeing a good movie.
For a moment there, I thought they were watching a movie about Tiffany’s plight. Then I remembered. If THAT were the case, Luann wouldn’t be “crying” over it.
And G & K forgot one. The guys anxiously looking at their watches and wondering if the game has started yet.
This reminds me of the cartoon where two women are looking at a painting of a nude reclining on a couch and one says to the other “We used to have a couch just like that.”
This is a cute Sunday foible, but my only issue is where is the in-law Toni? She is a family member. As someone already wrote maybe she is on duty in Luaanverse. Toni is a kind character, loves Brad, hope she is allowed to produce a new DeGroot (adopting Shannon if necessary as a built in older sister), is a tough firefighter, and thus I bet she might be not the weepy type in a cry inducer film. Not like the men in this panel, but different, a bit sadder, a bit tougher, but understanding the story. Whoa all philosophical this Sunday morning (lol).
Only in today’s world would we be having a discussion such as this. I think it’s safe to say that different people have different reactions to movies regardless of their sex but also that male/female stereotypes become stereotypes because they do tend to have a tiny grain of truth in them—otherwise they would not be recognized as such. And they would not create the reaction they have generated here today. Oddly, some of the female posters seem to feel offended by being portrayed as showing emotion and being moved by a story and are even proud they have the more “male reaction” of missing the point of the story in order to capture and focus on tiny technical errors. If we are so offended by the idea that we have feelings and imagination in this day and age then heaven help us!!!! I’d much rather watch this movie with the ladies than the men, whose reactions I find distracting and annoying. Wonder if they do this in action movies too?
I’m pretty much “down” on almost any kind of story line.
Having done a bit of traveling, I just want to see the world.
I identify with Frank in this one – I love seeing the little clues that tell you where the film was really shot. Among other things, I can tell many cities apart by how the traffic signals were hung.
Supposed to be Chicago? Shot in New York! Supposed to be in New York? Shot in Canada!
And so many scenes shot in Hollywood that I think I’ve memorized certain streets in Los Angeles!
So, imagine my pleasure when a movie is actually shot on location!
Now, why do they have to mess it up with stories about people who (for the most part) aren’t interesting or even likable?
(By the by, loved Harriet – a rare exception among movies about people)
I’m afraid in our house, I’m the one who cries easily at everything we watch. I could weep at a Cheerios commercial if they can make me empathize with the characters.
I didn’t know that looking at second unit locations in movies/shows was considered a male thing. I always wait until the end of the credits to see where things were filmed and to see if I was right. For people who have traveled a lot or who live in an area where a lot of filming is done it’s kind of a fun past time.
You cannot lump all Men or Women into 2 groups. Each individual person is different. You should get to know each individual person. Don’t assume they are a certain way because they are male or female.
My family rarely watches movies together. Husband will go to see a movie he likes and he never expects me to tag along. I’ve always gone to movies by myself if no one else wants to see it with me. My adult daughters go to movies they want to see. I would never sit though a movie I didn’t want to see with another adult. I went to a lot of kid movies when I had to go when my kids were young.
I’m a male and I tear up at some movies but there were two I had to leave to compose myself. The end of Toy Story 3, partially because my oldest who I watched the first two with was also leaving for college. Then in Dances With Wolves when the SOB’s shot and killed the wolf, I just lost it.
This is right on. Millennials and Gen X’ers have ruined the IMDb by filling it with nitpicking “goofs” like Brad’s “major goof.” (Actually, Brad’s goof is more significant than most of those on the IMDb now.)
Wow. Some people are majorly triggered today. Yes, bias is a thing, it is part of survival. We fear/avoid what is different or unknown as a means of threat management. I’m not saying it is right or wrong, it just is the way we are wired. We are at the point where certain biases are still acceptable, but most are unacceptable. I dare any who think that they are bias-free to do some serious self examination and look for their own bias. I’ve noticed bias against the religious, socially or politically conservative, and older generations is currently acceptable because we can be biased against those we have labeled as intolerant. Society doesn’t need to try to understand their perspectives, or so it seems, because their perspectives are irrelevant. If that is not hypocritical, I don’t know what is.
Noting differences is not bias, nor is damaging. The damage of stereotypes is when it is assumed that all people in a group fit the stereotype and that those qualities are a bad thing. I find it interesting that some members of certain groups have embraced the stereotype even if it doesn’t apply to the individual. (I’m thinking of the groups that have been stereotyped as “brainy/nerdy/geeky” or “thrifty/stingy/frugal”.)
Caution: We are in a time warp zone. If we must go back to the family/popcorn/T.V. days, then let’s go back to a time like 6/6/2014 before Greg tried to mutilate Tiffany. Back when Tiff was a pure example of a sexy tease, determined to be the best sexy tease that Mother Nature could put in this colorless little world. With a fantasy character like her, differences between male and female did not have to be defined in a psychology lab.
i can take them or leave them, i’m what i call a film geek and if a film has someone i like in it or directing/writing it i’ll watch it i don’t give a damn. some of them are good and some are just crap like the 50 shades of grey films.

I hate war movies, ever watch one with a retired Marine – they pick everything wrong out. Same with books using Marines as the focal point.

BTW if this strip were going for the full-on stereotype, shouldn’t the men be impatiently waiting for explosions and action sequences?
