Mag spits “stray” like it’s an insult, like Goldie’s done something wrong and she should be ashamed. I don’t care how fancy Mag’s outfit is. Anything can be a slur if you spit it, and I’m never forgiving Mag for that.
You meanie, trash panda! That’s what’s wrong with the world today, so much meanness and not enough kindness! Don’t you worry sweet Goldie, you’ll soon be blessed with the kindness of the Man and the Woman!
From the way Mag’s talking here, it seems like, at some point, the raccoons DID say that the People Goldie used to live with left. Possible a mix of Goldie not wanting to hear it and raccoon attitude led to things getting to where they are. But MAN, this is a harsh way for Goldie to finally have it driven home that the People she thought were hers weren’t worth her time.
Fortunately, we have two of the friendliest cats in the story here to provide comfort and a suggestion of where Goldie might find some suckers to become her new People.
Taking the other side, Maggie could be drawing the wrong conclusion. If Goldie had been frightened and hiding and accidentally got outside to become even more scared and hid herself, the People would have to eventually give up, pray that the local SPCA finds her or a kind human finds her, and hit the road. When you’re moving you have deadlines to hit. We had to leave a lot of stuff behind because we had to be on the road by 4pm and we got out at 4:45, cat and all.
Alright Goldie, it’s time to put your [expletive] People in your rear view mirror, straighten your fishnet top and move forward to a better home. You never know, it could be right around the Dumpster – I mean corner.
Unfortunately the truth! I hate people who abandon animals especially cats but other pets as well. It is a tough job to punish the humans who do this though, even worse than sickening animal abuse as often neighbors are reluctant to narc out neighbors to the law or animal control (who will call da police) as the law is perceived as the enemy in many parts of the world. Consider yourself lucky if you trust your police as you are a small minority….
This whole storyline is tough. We believe our beloved Albert was abandoned by his owners. Amongst other behaviors, he’s skittish around boxes. While we’re so glad he came into our lives, it hurts to think anyone would just get rid of such a sweet and loving cat.
My cat Rusty was a stray I started feeding. He had clearly been a house cat. After six years with me, he’s made a real breakthrough. Twice a truck pulled up nearby and he became alert but did not run and hide. Always, he has hidden. I think he remembers his first home and one day a truck pulled up, stole all the furniture and his family and he was left. What so many people don’t seem to realize is how utterly devastating that is. I’m glad Georgia is running this storyline, harsh as it is. Of course, she’s preaching to the choir, but it’s still good.
It made me want to cry for her. On a side note, my daughter just “adopted” a stray that has been wandering around her condo complex. It apparently was abandoned.
Georgia has done it again! I know this seems irredeemably tragic and we are all heartbroken for Goldie right now, just hold on. Georgia always has magic up her sleeve, especially at Halloween. Prairiedog bites her nails waiting for the happy ending she knows must be just around the trash cans.
Mag’s comment was unnecessarily cruel. There is a special place in Dante’s hell reserved for people who purposefully abandon their pets. As I type this, I am looking at Yum Yum sprawled bonelessly on the fireplace, completely at her ease and trusting us implicitly. I can’t imagine any circumstance that would make me break that trust.
I will never forgive Mag for what she has done. I have gone through something like this, and I hate to see Goldie going through the same thing. I hope we don’t have to see Mag again. She is just like all the bullies I’ve encountered in the “wonderful” world of middle school.
This is so sad, but I’m glad we know there’s a happy ending coming- I’m reading this and thinking of the photos Georgia just posted of Goldie waiting on breakfast with the others and “ reporting” on Lupin’s laundry basket adventure! I wish that all abandoned cats would find a good home.
I’m wondering about Goldie’s eye-color change from green to gold. I liked her with the green eyes. Georgia doesn’t make ‘mistakes,’ so I’m wondering if there will be something more on this.
“Breaking Cat News”’ first-ever multi-month storyline (at least in the newspapers)! So do we think Goldie will be home for Christmas, or giving thanks in the Big Pink House in November? I think it could easily run into the Christmas season as Goldie meets our cast, learns to trust them, and is properly (gradually) integrated into the household.
I know you had to take us to the dark before you can get us back to the light, but it still stings, Georgia. Thanks for at least not dropping this on us on Saturday, when we’d have to stew on it for two whole days!
I mentioned above that one of my cats was a friend’s throwaway. But I forgot to mention that my orher cat is a foundling someone apparently dumped in a parking lot. I got my first dog many years ago that way too. She was dumped at the middle school. I guess her people figured that some kid would take her home and they were right, I did :)
Wow, that was mean. Been away for a while and just got the past week till now caught up. My mind is more restful now that I’m caught up with BCN! Happy day before Halloween everyone. First time in 32 years without a black cat on the night of ghosts and goblins. :(
His Majesty was born in jail and Jasper was a 3 time repeat offender (he was in the pound 3 times) that’s how I ended up with my 2 youngest boys. Meav and KK were found next to a dumpster and their rescuer couldn’t keep them after a year. Ichy’s owner no longer wanted her and was going to put her to sleep when she was inconvenient. Dually was a young rescue also. I’ll take others no one wants people can go straight to… BTW Dually is 11 today.
It was a cold and wet December day when Mama Kitty first showed up at our door, we were living in a Hotel at the time and weren’t thinking about having a pet. She was wet and bedragled looking, and my wife put out something for her to eat. She did not stay but would return every day at the same time, after about 4 days she came in. I was lying on the bed and she jumped up on my chest and started purring. mt wife went to the store and got her proper food and water dishes and cat food. about a week later we took her into the vet who said she appeared to be about a year old. We thought that she had been left behind by someone who had moved from an Apt. building next to the Hotel. Long story short, we kept her and through 2 litters # apts. and a move from Cali. we sent her across The Rainbow Bridge at the age of 19yrs. that was 4 yrs ago and we still miss her dearly, which is why our current 2 are rescues, my favorite breed.
I’m waiting for Lupin to remember being abandoned as a kitten (As I recall, Georgia said that he and his litter mates were found, all alone in a closet in an empty apartment). Maybe when he hears that Goldie’s People just up and left her, he’ll feel more kindly towards her.
After reading all these comments it seems that most all of the orbsters have or had rescue pets. Count us in too, 4 cats waiting at the bridge and 2 current cats and 2 current dogs, all rehomed to us one way or another. Oh, you’ll have to excuse me…one current cat is in an upper kitchen cabinet tossing out the contents……….
One of our cats, the youngest, is a foundling. Who ever left him on our doorstep knew I would walk the doggos at a certain time before going into my office. When we got back, there he was. He is a tuxedo. And he is named after someone who when wearing a tuxedo, makes a pin look disheveled. His name is Fred. And the Yellow Lab puppy is named Ginger. they are the best buds. We knew this was coming. I’m crying anyway. “Heart-breaking Cat News”.
A beautiful song for you, sweet Goldie girl:
Better Days
by Le’Andria Johnson
Sometimes it feels cold
And you feel all alone
But hold on, better days are coming
It can be rough in this world
We know it ain’t easy but hang on in there
We know better days are coming
You seen good, you seen bad
You’ve been hurt, you are sad
But just remember that better days
Better days are coming
Friends will leave you all by yourself
But don’t cry
’Cause better days are coming, oh
Better days (better days)
Better days
Better days are coming
It’s only a season
you’re going through, yeah
But stay focused and never lose sight
We know people, people
They don’t see the hurt you feel inside
But keep on smiling ’cause everything will be all right
Better days (they’re coming now)
Better days (we feel it)
Better days are coming (You’ve got to believe in better days)
