Clearly a joke, but wakes one up for sure. If I really knew theater arts I could define the convention that Greg is using, but I think that this arc might end up being at least a two-fer. Not only will Pru give Luann some wisdom that might, and I say might end up helping her make better romantic decisions, and we will ironically find out more about Pru as well. Love to see what Jan looks like. No Delta surprise, poo.

Not surprised Pru’s fiancee is a Navy fighter pilot…this strip alternates between being a step ahead of and a step behind the times. Same with “you’re dating the wrong girls” gag.

Remember how Greg Evans tap-danced around whether or not Toni and Brad were actually having sex before they got married, to titillate his liberated audience and avoid offending his prudish audience.

Thus, the door opens for Luann to possibly enter an experimental phase.

I know a funny Limerick… but I can’t write it here! But it is humorous! In fact, I’m laughing right now! :-D

Today, class, Luann contemplates how her life could be amazingly romantic, if only she were lesbian.

I’ll repeat the advice I gave my Nephew on getting married, “Marry your best friend.” If she’s not your best friend, that’s lust and there are much cheaper alternatives than marriage.

I simply cannot believe how obtuse people are that ecannot see that Pru was joking.

I used to work in a company that had to openly gay men working there. One was Jeff and one was Tony. Jeff and I were good friends, he was the executive director’s secretary, Tony was head of IT.Well I ate lunch with Jeff almost every day and he was funny as hell, had us in stitches all the time. He talked and acted a lot like Paul Lynde. Anyway, one day we were all sitting together (our usual set of people) and he mentioned Tony, who was just unpleasant or cold most of the time, and very effeminate. So Jeff casually remarks, “I can’t stand Tony.” I say, “Really? Why is that?” “Because he is such a ( spoiler alert old-style slur ) f*g!”So we all just sit there and with perfect timing, as everyone was contemplating what to say next, in a perfect adaptation of the aforementioned Paul Lynde, Jeff bursts out, “OH I KNOW!” and laughs with that twinkle in his eye and then does a dead on impersonation of Tony. Now I know that nowadays he could have been written up or dismissed regardless of his own orientation, but the humor of his reaction was because of the elephant in the room, and our reluctance/awareness of this. But we all stated laughing. BTW, Tony of course was not there. I chalk it up to different times, but also the same idea as Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor collaborating On Blazing Saddles with all the ‘N" word jokes written by Pryor which gave us permission to laugh, because we knew a black man wrote them. Jeff did not have the subsequent scene where Cleavon’s character is upset about all that and Gene is talking to him about their racism being backwards etc. However in Jeff’s defense he already defied the then typical stereotype since he was in a 20 year monogamous relationship. And to be clear, Tony was a tool.It was the irony that made the statement funny and his acknowledgement of his own words.

Come on this is or should be a comic strip. Getting to the point not worth reading this. Lets get a funny laughing story line not a lot of drama goofy crap.

For a character that has been supportive of Luann’s romantic foibles, even acted like a big sister at times. She always comported herself in a mature manner. In the 31MAR2017 strip she helped Les save face when she realized he was trying to romance her and needed the expensive gift he gave her back. As late as 25FEB2019 she coaxed a girl talk session with Luann about her bedroom escapade with Gunther in the gulag. She noted and supported Luann’s heterosexuality as far as we knew.

That last comment just seemed out of character. I’m disappointed with today’s strip. Maybe tomorrow will save the exit of a character we’re come to like over the last two years.

That is the way it would come out with Pru even though she knows Luann prefers guys. She is excited about her immediate future right now.

Luann needs a new bestie though. Bernice is too negative.

And now the Gunther has mental problems comments are coming out again. I think Gunther is his own man. He keeps his own counsel. He has his own hobbies, skills and interests and others have come to accept those attributes and have benefitted from them. Often Luann, but also Tiffany, Knute and even Les.

Gunther is a Renaissance Man of this age. A person who is well educated and sophisticated and who has skills, talent and knowledge in many different fields of study. He’s no more autistic than da Vinci!

It sounds like Pru and Jan never broke up, just stayed in touch long distance. It seems like this is the first time Pru has ever talked about Jan to Luann. Very odd since they live in the same house.

Pru is just taking the comment literally. It’s a joke. Luann moans “… oh why doesn’t this happen to me?….” Well if you want THIS to happen YOU, you have to date a gal, and the right one. Ha ha..

Pru’s punch line was just teasing Luann, as they are good friends. Not likely that Luann will try it with a woman – but if she did – I would guess Tara. The relationship between Luann and Tara has had positive and negative spikes – both signs of connection. And Tara seems to have few taboos – I suspect she’s at least checked it out with some girl or woman.

I’ve been feeling iffy with Pru since she arrived. I was hoping she might be used someway to “fight” Ann Eiffel but she’s been a dud. tbh, I’m glad she’s going

Not to be picky (okay, I guess it is picky) but I would think that Luann would have heard about Jan a long time ago. Certainly she would have asked about her when Pru received the valentine. I suppose this was all exposition for the readers to explain why Pru was here at all and why she’s moving back all of a sudden now…

I kinda want the strip to pull a Beetle Bailey and abandon Pittsville altogether, to focus on Pru’s life as a Navy wife. (for those who are confused at the reference, that strip wasn’t always about life in the Army: Beetle was originally a college student.) Luann could tag along to justify the title (I’m sure we can find something for her to do), but the rest of the cast can be left behind. After all, Brad’s storyarc is basically complete, and watching the rest of the characters constantly backslide into their default characterizations has become wearying.) Let’s shake things up!

Get back to wholesome comics

Welp, time for Pru to get on that bus out of this strip. She joins Aaron, Rosa, the teachers from Pitts High, Knute, Crystal, Dirk, Delta, Zane, Elwood, Ben (Bernice’s brother), that scarf guy that Bernice liked, Quill…

I know a few Navy pilots; Pru’s assessment of her fiance is about right. But, Pru as a Navy wife would be an interesting occasional sidebar to this strip.

How come when Christians mention their faith and the teachings of Christ, people ask for silence so they won’t be “offended”? Yet, if I am offend by mainstreaming of so called gay marriage, I am cancelled, called ugly names and told to shut up?

Perhaps we are overanalyzing… Pru is not suggesting to Luann that she date girls and Luann is not a lesbian. Gay and straight people that are friends are able to joke about each others’ sexual preferences. If they are friends and mean no harm, and the comments are not ugly, then the two can joke about such things.

I have always liked Pru and I hate to see her go. I think the G&K team didn’t really know what do with the character in the end, tbh. I wish Jan would have relocated to the area to keep her around as a big sis to Lu, as Pru and Lu just fit and Pru always seemed to help LuAnn. Hopefully though this will be a good arc for LuAnn. Maybe she will meet someone who will sweep her off of her feet (though I still like Jack for LuAnn). Maybe LuAnn will take a big risk and move out of the Pitts.

When a strip with Lu and Pru can garner almost 500 comments for two days in a row, that tells me that a lot of us are sheltering in place. Under normal conditions, this would have been closer to 150 or so …

Jan’s next “tour of duty” as a Navy pilot aka deployment will be coming up soon, so “forever” is euphemistic unless Jan leaves the Navy/retires or they use Skype.
