So, this week is indeed a continuation of sorts. ✨

Well Bern is a thinker, she’s not going to just jump on Jack like a starving coyote..she’s gonna be sure she’s not imagining things. I said last week and say it now it wouldn’t be a bad pairing.

Uh, do these crystals dissolve?

Gads, she hasn’t made sure her hands are clean, or the rock is clean, and she nearly hit Monstro on the head with the rock.

Dangerous place for a fish, this is.

That was quick and decisive.

Bernice is transparent about Jack.

Nobody is going to point out that it was the “love” crystal she dropped in?

Dez obviously believes they’d be a good match.

Perfect.

Crystals or becoming common in fish tanks.

Guess that gets right to the point.

Dez knows. She sees that star struck look on Bernice’s face in Panel 3 and adds her magic touch to the situation.

Monstro is thinking, “Dang, that is one huge piece of fish food!”

Dez is certainly perceptive.

I might be a lil slow but i’m guessing dez dropped the “love” crystal so vibes would connect between bernice and jack. If Luann wants to find love, she needs to untangle of mess that is her own life before she can even think about entangling with another persons.

And Dez snatches the crystal and beats Bernie to the punch, giving it to Monstro! I hope the fish lives long enough to demonstrate some gratitude….

“Love on the rocks, ain’t no surprise…” (If you’re old enough to remember this one.)

If she put the love one in there, Bernice should really get another goldfish. Otherwise poor Monstro won’t have anyone to love. And if she put the peace one in there…how would you know?

Temporary suspension of disbelief department: Several of you mentioned yesterday of the possibility that the rocks may contain chemicals harmful to the fish.

Since I don’t think G&K want to go the route of dead-fish-dead (with apologies to Dick Tracy fans), at this point, we must assume the rocks are harmless.

On an upbeat note: Some folks also thought yesterday that perhaps Bernice would insult Dez by throwing them into the fish tank. Or that she would at least wait until Dez was not around to do it.

Instead, Dez beats her to it.

In so doing, Dez is being established as one wise, kind, and comforting soul, and should be a welcome addition to Bernice’s “family.”

Gosh, I sure hope tyge was wrong yesterday, when he opined that this might be Dez’ swan song!

And the magic word, “Jack,” has been uttered.

I knew it.

Dez has already figured out that Bern is “sweet” on Jack, hence the “love crystal” gets dunked. So. Will the rest of the week feature Dez encouraging Bern to go after her musclebound “dreamboat?”

Or will the “Love-Fest” come to a screeching HALT when it’s revealed that Luann, (Who so far, has been M.I.A. this week) has spent a giddy, fun filled afternoon ALONE with Jack?

Sadly, that “old devil” Reality, may be SLAPPING Bernice (and the Jack and Bernice “shippers”) across the face, much sooner than expected. :(

She’s going to be so disappointed when jack hits on luann.

There is a lot of passion in her little body, I wouldn’t be surprised if she contacts Jack.

Bernice’s love for Jack is already on the rocks. All she can do is hope for peace! :D

Dez is a genius ♡. And everyone can read Bernice as an open comic book with comics without dialogue. J/Monstro watching the humans around him is so cute ♡.

Look at the cheeze-eating grin on Bernice’s face in Panel 3. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her smile like that in all of the years I’ve read this strip. Dez knows what’s up.

I see she is still letting other people live her life for her….

I’m somewhat surprised. Dez is usually more direct in her statements. I predict that the rest of the week will be Dez prodding Bernice about her embryonic feelings for Jack. Possibly involving a special cup of tea, incense sticks or zooidal spirits.

Dez is majoring in bio-celestial chromonics if you remember. She realizes that Jack has unconsciously sense Bernice’s “gorgeous aqua energy pulse” and gifted her with a harmony resonant joujou.

I love Dez

Monstro (Jack) the fish is a tchotchke as are the stones (which I assure you are totally harmless to the fish, this is a cartoon after all) all meant to indicate the potential of a love connection between the hunk and the nerd. I am a perennial optimist so I have high hopes for this possible relationship, but if it does in fact result in something, and not just a summer fling (it is meteorological Fall though) that might mean that Gunther is paired, and Bernice is paired, but Luann isn’t and neither is Tiffany (I think at least for now she and Les are friendzone who share difficult parents and upbringing). So we see. I would like to see Bernice happy though. Underneath that snark and misplaced rationality (bossiness) is a really tender character. Jack may just be what she needs the strong man behind the woman.

Actually JahMonstro is a pretty good name! ;o)

To PAM WHITTAKER and ZeMASTOR: TY for your answers to my questions about Bernice yesterday.

Didn’t boil it to disinfect it. Bad idea.

Was that the ‘love’ crystal? Or the ‘peace’ crystal? And why would Dez decide to impart either to the fantail, rather than to Bernice? And how dismissive and presumptuous of Dez— after GIVING it to her— to have snatched the crystal right out of Bernice’s hand, deciding how it would be used. That seems much more like a move that Les, T.J., or Shannon would make.

We all saw this coming. JackBern is gonna be a thing, but will it be a 1-way or a 2-way street?

Now Monstro is going to fall madly in love with Bernice! I wonder if she can breathe underwater. :D

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never seen anyone so excited about a goldfish.

So the fish will attract love? I’m not sure how it will do that.

Aw. That’s cute.

Oh yeah, Bernice and Jack will hook up.

Bernice spent time with Jack years ago. Why is she suddenly smitten with him now? Is it because he showed her a little attention? I would ask Bernice what qualities she likes about Jack. Why wasn’t she attracted to him before?

My opinion: Dez can see that Bernice has already found love in her new pet fish. So the rock goes into fish tank …next to Bernice’s new found love…not Jack.

Even IF the love crystal somehow attracted love, how would putting it in the fish tank help Bernice attract Jack?

If Jack is interested in Bernice, he’s playing his cards very carefully. I mean, how likely is it that he found a working fish tank on sale for only a dollar? Not bloody likely.

I see it different. Dez has met LuAnn and I would assume Jack, or at least heard about him before. Dez took the love crystal away from Bern dropped it in the water, away from Bernice and left her only holding the peace crystal. Perhaps it is forshadowing. If there is love between Jack and Bernice, there is no peace. You want peace, then there cannot be love.

Notice after Jack left Luann stopped hovering.

Love or peace for that piscis.

Oh wonderful Dez! That “love” crystal may in fact have toxins that will kill the fish. Either that or make it glow in the dark.

It will be nice to see Bern finally attracted to a “normal” guy. She has usually been attracted to unusual characters.
