She has always been in control of her emotions and actions that an impulsive kiss is alarming to her and she overeacts.

Nancy is all of us. Control freak Bernice did something following her instincts and now she’s out of her mind because she can’t explain it. Nancy has to calm her down, explain her how to handle her feelings, reassure her that she hasn’t done anything wrong. Things Bernice’s parents seem to have avoided to do.

There was no romantic relationship between Nil and Bernice. However, Nil acknowledged that Bernice is an intelligent woman. Her passion for life ❤ has a direct connection to being acknowledged (validated).

This story line is badly written.

Nany is disappointed. She was hoping Bernice had really DONE something (more?) with Nils. Bartending doesn’t bring her enough excitement in her life. So she lives vicariously through Bernice, Luann, and, of course Toni.

Guess we’ll be here for awhile. Anyone got any good jokes?

The poor girl has more issues than National Geographic.

Bernice may be feeling guilty that she led Nil on by kissing him, if she knows she’s not attracted to him/has no intention of dating him.

And she might have PTSD from her experience with Zane, where they were kissing and then he nearly died in a fire.

I’ve known young women like Bern before. One of these days all of that suppressed passion and rigidly controlled emotion will explode and unleash her inner animal and will make someone like Tara seem like a Girl Scout. I doubt if Greg would have the courage to take it that far, though.

I keep forgetting. The writer for this comic has a severe case of amnesia and is constantly changing these characters’ past history and personality traits.

She might feel as though she’s leading Nil on, by kissing him even though she isn’t interested in dating him. Or she may have PTSD because of what happened with Zane when they were making out and the bookstore caught fire.

Perhaps this reaction is just her realizing how easily she was seduced by Nil. She succumbed to this Bohemian Lothario and his beat philosophy.

I think Bernice should have majored in Drama.

I wonder what the set up is here! Are GnK positioning Nancy for a heartfelt intervention in Bernice’s life? Is Nancy being positioned as being a substitute Mother for Bernice, thereby moving Luannand Bern closer to being sisters than BFF’s?

I get the feeling Bernice’s semi hysteric response is just a plot device.

If she were real, she would have had a nervous breakdown before graduating high school!

Miss French-Kissing Floozie aka The Temptress still hasn’t explained just exactly what it was she thought she was “tempting” Nil to do.

Run and hide? Join a monastery? Paint her left earlobe?

And this is the person who has the nerve to call LUANN a Drama Queen.

So now we get to see Bernice regressed to behaving like an idiotic twelve year old. I thought that was something G&K reserved strictly for Luann, but it looks like I was wrong. :)

I blame her parents. Did she never see her parents kiss or be affectionate with each other. There has to be a reason why she feels that just a kiss makes her such a slut or a temptress.

Today Bernice calls herself a “floozy” and yesterday she called herself a “temptress”. There are various opinions that have been stated about Bernice’s actions the last few days, but here is my general take:

1. I think Bernice was raised in a very loving home, but because her own parents ended up giving up their oldest child for adoption (Ben, who was born before Bernice’s parents had gotten married)….. they worked to always instill a very cautious mindset about romance, especially at a younger age in Bernice. Much of what Bernice is feeling at the moment may be related to the guidance she received from her parents (well intentioned, but probably a bit stronger than needed).

2. Bernice was admitting to herself the interest she had in Jack . But…. I think the way in which romantic urges came upon Bernice for Nil have shocked and surprised her…. and that she may likely feel quite a bit of confusion in that her romantic feelings changed to another person so rapidly, so unexpectedly, and perhaps so strongly. To a pretty analytical and generally “by-the-book” person, like Bernice…. an unexpected, unplanned emotional change can be quite disconcerting.

3. In high school, Bernice had infatuations on a few boys. But, I think perhaps Bernice felt “safer” in those high school infactuations because they seemed “smaller” and “more temporary”. The feelings (unrequited) she had for Jack may have even felt similarly. But, perhaps what may be freaking Bernice out a bit, is that the feelings and passions she felt for Nil may be more fully realized, more adult-typical passions… and this may be more shocking and surprising than she anticipated. And, because she “made the first move” that “aggressive” aspect of starting the romance may also feel odd or shocking to her.

What’s wrong with being a French-kissing floozie? Go easy on yourself Bern.

For those who are wondering about Greg Evans’s views on premarital relations; Greg and his wife met in college. Before they were married, they had a daughter who they gave up for adoption. So, in part, the story of Ben reflects an experience from Greg’s own life…

Bern is lucky that Nil didn’t misinterpret the kiss and expect sex. Far too many men do. Yes, a lot of women do not have sex on the first date. They need to get the know the person first, and even then sex is not a given.

That’s redundant. She’s “reacting too much” or “overreacting” not both. Though you are essentially correct. This girl is a basket case.

Maybe Bernice is used to feeling superior to everyone, hence the put-downs and snarkiness, not to mention that she was a student monitor for a while. Succumbing to her more base desire to initiate something with a boy may have made her realize that she puts her pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.

Bernice should have accepted Frank’s offer of that drink. Or two, or three. Nancy looks ready to gulp down at least that many, and I suspect a large segment of the readership wants to do the same. The only way this story arc could be salvaged is for Jack to call Bernice tomorrow and say, “Hi, FKF! How’s Monstro?”

She’s in college and hasn’t even french kissed!! Boy, is she in for some surprises.

Will there be an arc about Bernice’s problem with over reacting?

All I can say is that Bern is veering off course a bit in her answers. What she leaves out when Nancy asked what happened next is that Nil did not respond. This is a key step in the sequence of events. My hope is that Nancy is perceptive enough to dig it out. Bernice is blaming herself for Nil’s non-response; she’s assuming it’s because she’s not a good french kisser. Bern likes to do a good job in everything she does; this we know, and we need not dig any farther to what we don’t know.

Ya know, I really thought Bernice was smarter than this.

She needs to understand what a floozy is. She ain’t it.

It was not obvious from the strip that the kiss was that passionate. Oh goody. something exciting for both of them.

What this story arc is proving with a doubt is that Bernice is a self-absorbed snob.
