I agree with Luann 100 percent.

I honestly don’t see why Luann couldn’t teach, say kindergarten or first or second grade. She may not be super academic, but she’s not at the bottom of her class either. There’s no reason she couldn’t at least teach at that level, especially since she’s supposed to be good with kids. I think Bernice is full of it, as usual

Uh oh. Another snark from Luann. So, guys, both of them snark, okay? Well, Bernice, Luann does have a point? Unless you learn the art of dispensing advice without snarking, counseling might not be for you. Yes, as a counselor, you need to be blunt and be honest with your client, but there is an art to it. You don’t have it….yet. Luann is the ideal “patient” to practice this art with. Your next advice to Luann needs to go softer. You actually would benefit from taking classes or workshops where you could practice through role-playing. Luann, on the other hand, has working with kids down to an art. She’s a natural.

Great move Luann! Even if Bernice has been really good at helping her this week, that doesn’t change the fact that many times she looks really out of place as a future psychologist. This may help Bernice to find something more suitable for her, for the good of all. Also, it’s great for two best friends to do workshops together ♡. Bernice may see how much Luann has grown as a student.

Every New Year’s Eve, just before midnight, I cue up the scene from Star Trek Original series “Doomsday Machine” where Kirk drives the USS Constellation right down the throat of the doomsday machine, and at exactly midnight (at the 2:54 mark of the video), the doomsday machine blows/projectile vomits its guts and is dead, saving any planets in its course from destruction. Best TOS episode, best part of the episode. Especially to have it blow right at midnight!

New Year’s resolution: don’t read other comments before you write yours. I think it’s great they both will explore options in a very complicated but super dynamic labor market, and clearly this is the kind of banter that good friends engage in, helping both in so many ways.

Do NOT take career advice from Luann!

I know Bernice is very low on the empathy scale but there are a lot of ‘tough love’ psychologists that have excellent careers and I feel she would be one of those. It’s true that when she tries to be a therapist she is terrible at it, but she’s 19 (I think) and lacks both education and training. The problem is that she’s probably read a few 101 Psychology books and now thinks she can play therapist, but her lack of education and training is definitely showing.

Maybe Karen is going to give Luann a break from being the idiot class clown….(now that all the readers are 100% aware that she is who the character is based on). I hope so. It was getting really old. When you are disappointed to see that the main character is in the story, there is definitely something wrong.

“Physician, heal thyself..” (“Physician, HEEL!” ?)

It’s good to have first hand experience with things you recommend.

The first rule of therapy is that you have to put the client at ease enough that they’ll talk openly about what’s brought them in. Bernice is so judgmental, she’s unlikely to create a safe enough atmosphere for that.

Luann reminding Bernice should heed her own advice. Happy New Year.
