See? The kid did tell Luann the dog wasn’t missing! She just waited until Luann freaked out, ran into the cold, and weirdly interrupted Brad at work. See? The kid said “nuh-uh”! What a normal thing to do. What great communication skills these characters have. It’s over. Yay.
That’s actually kind of sweet. Shannon, her stuffed animals and Puddles all sitting together in a circle having a tea party. Perhaps she’s not a little terror all the time then..
Similar story with my cat. I inadvertently left the door open one day, could not find the cat anywhere in the house. (indoor cat, never allowed outside) I tore the house apart trying to find her. Then canvassed the entire neighborhood for hours, knocked on doors etc etc. When I got home she was waiting by the food dish. Never did figure out just where the hell she was hiding in the house.
And the little rascal is at home with no problems in the world ♡. Looking at Luann in the first panel she looks exhausted, her eyes are tired, as if she has been crying a lot. Luann really loves Puddles so much. I hope that nothing serious ever happens to lil Puddles, Luann would be destroyed.
I was having some work done on the prior house and the workmen left an excape route open. Deedee and Sheela went for a walk. I got a call from the vet (other side of the block) that they had walked by, one of our regular routes . So I went looking, walking in the opposite direction. Met them about 3/4 of the way.
Not quite sure how I feel about Shannon’s behavior. She probably put Puddles in the wagon with the toys to be warm, sure, but what reason did she have for not telling Luann her precious pet was okay? She seemed oblivious to Luann being worried and upset, and even though she had claimed to love her “aunt” with a valentine, she didn’t seem to care about her feelings at all when Puddles got “lost”. Since when does Shannon just stay mum and let things evolve around her? Was she mad about being accused? Maybe that was it, but that would mean she thought her hurt feelings were more important than Luann knowing Puddles was safe. It’s kind of a weird character personality change, from know-it-all tell-everyone-about-it to quiet, resentful and introverted. She’s lucky Luann won’t ever realize what a mean little brat she was being.
So of course people are blaming Luann for being oblivious, stupid, immature etc. I say shut that noise down. She thought her DOG was missing. She panicked, ran out looking for him.
I’ve been there. It sucks.
Before Shannon could do squat, she was gone. Shannon had no time to tell her anything. So she waited and entertained herself and the dog, did not damage anything, or even spill anything. She responded to Luann as soon as she returned.
So if Shannon had taken off looking for Luann, she would have been wrong. Luann would have been wrong for not taking her along.
Luann was stupid for not seeing the dog was in the wagon, (keeping in mind this is the story we are given).
Shannon was mean fro not telling her.
I have said it before, many people here are BLESSED thet they are so damned perfect. So how about giving us lesseer mortals a chance at redemption.
Bless you all. HEAVY SARCASM INCLUDED FREE OF CHARGE
Isn’t Shannon a little too young to be left alone while Luann runs around the neighborhood? She should have taken her with her, and at that point Shannon would likely have told her.
I find this humorous …folks are blaming:Luann, Shannon or both; when we all know ..this is a comic strip & the characters are at the command of the writer…. (¬‿¬)
I got to thinking about the questions about Jonah and Shannon so decided to do a little research. Per the Characters bios, Shannon is in 1st grade, so around 6 or 7 as we thought. Jonah is chasing dreams of becoming a stage actor—no musician dreams mentioned. Shannon’s mom is in the wind. Also, a lot of us, myself included, wonder wjhere the strip is set, but have they (the writers, directly or through the characters) ever said? Wiki just says “an unnamed suburban setting.” SoCal is a reasonable guess; isn’t that where Greg lives? Plus the clothing and other general depictions of the weather. And they do think their “winter” is cold. When I visited my parents in OC coming from MN in January, I would go out wearing shorts and encounter people in jackets. Maybe not -40 parkas fit for Minnesota, but warm jackets nonetheless.
I’ve been reading this strip long enough to remember they did this before with Shannon herself taking the place of the missing dog. They even smashed a wall before finding her napping in a laundry basket.
The Shannon supporters make good points. And it’s a fact that we don’t know how quickly time elapsed before Luann ran out (which I don’t blame her a bit for doing). And I know it’s not realistic, and I’m probably just still being grumpy, but a final thought occurred to me. Shannon is constantly marching around screaming at the top of her lungs. Why couldn’t she have gone to the door and shouted that Puddles was in the house? Okay, last comment on the subject by me; all may now rejoice, lol.
Years ago, spouse and I came home late at night. When I opened the door, our house cat ran out, down to the end of the house, and climbed a tree.
Spouse tearfully told me to catch the cat and bring him in. So, I got our ladder, climbed up on the roof, leaned over to the tree, which swayed scarily, and started calling, “Hear, kitty, kitty, kitty!”
I was a bit nervous about this because I was right next to our neighbors’ bedroom window. After about five minutes, spouse came down and asked what I was doing up there.
“I’m doing what you said—trying to get the cat!” I said.
“Well you can come down now,” she replied. “He came in the front door five minutes ago.”

Well, all’s well that ENDS.
Interesting that this “new” arc was the first one after the week of repeats.
Must have one heck of a Christmas vacation for the writing team.
Hopefully the “Shan-Fans” and the “Luann should appear more in her own Strip,” disciplines are satisfied, and we’re back something else next week.
Besides, Punk stuck in a tree that is. ;-)
