I have heard that area rugs are tripping hazards.

I’ve an idea to fix that corner: scissors. If that doesn’t work by making the rug look asymmetrical, then take the scissors to the other three corners thereof.

We have a foot rug that is on a persian style carpet. It walks toward the WNW no matter what we do. I tried tucking it under one leg of my chair. It walked right out. I used Gorilla Tape® to fasten some twine to the bottom of the foot rug, and tied that to the chair leg. It pulled the tape off! I’m morally certain that, if I had nailed it (and Spouse totally agrees with Opal, so no chance), it would have pulled the nail out.

I don’t see a problem with Earl’s solution. The area rug that’s causing the problem is over wall-to-wall carpeting. Nailing the rug down seems like the answer. I’ve been thinking about doing that in my den. There’s a 6’ x 6’ round area rug over the carpet, and a coffee table on the round rug. No matter how many times I pull the rug out flat, it scrunches back up against the base of the coffee table.

I have an area rug that would not stay. Even nails didn’t help because they got pulled out enough to stick up & present their own hazard. Finally, I screwed it to the floor in several places, and it’s held well for over a year now. Here’s hoping for more.

I would put the chair on the rug. Move the rug or the chair or move both. Don’t put just one chair leg on the rug, but put the entire chair on the corner of the rug. Or, they could just get rid of the rug.

What should probably disturb me is this makes sense to me. Then again, I’m the guy who super glued his hand to the outside of the driver’s door on my car many years ago, then had to drive home leaning out the window like a dog. But at least my tongue didn’t flap in the breeze.

Put that corner of the rug in the corner of the room. Now Opal can either put a heavy book shelf on it to flatten it or put a couch on top of it where it can stay curled up and it won’t be in her way anymore.

Three or four tubes of JB Weld ought to do it but have a fifth handy if it doesn’t. Then burn the rug and have about three fingers worth of the fifth.

I saw several posts say to put something weighty on it, but they did not say what I do, fold the corner, then put something weighty on it. After a few hours that way, it’s fine (at least for a few months)…

Easy. Turn the rug over. Then explain that it is “up-side-down-backward” day/week/month/year. Btw, yesterday’s “Ain’t gettin’ any older” comment comes from my wife, daughters, granddaughters and, now that they are beginning to talk, great granddaughters—“When’re you going to grow up?”

Try Velcro and if that’s not flat enough, resort to your hot glue gun. You know the EMTs will charge you at least $500 to pick up Opal again.

Why put an area rug over carpeting? The area rug will damage the carpeting.
