Oh, Pucky, we’ve all been there. I love the dinosaur ghosts! Also, I know of someone who straight-up puts strawberries on pizza, Pucky, so feel free to contemplate that.
(Also, this state of awakeness is, I’ve found, the best time to watch old Doctor Who episodes. Stuff is happening, the logic doesn’t matter too terribly much, everything’s dramatic, and the monsters are terribly funny.)
I’ve had pizza with figs and apples on it. Granted, it was at an upscale restaurant where the whole menu was weird. It actually tasted pretty good, though!
I also think about weird things, especially when I’m sleep deprived.
You know, dinosaurs were around for such a long time that dinosaur fossils existed long before they even went extinct. And there’s such a huge gap between the periods of Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus that the latter is closer in time to the age of humans.
Are earthquakes caused by invisible dinosaur ghosts? Like, a ghost titanosaur?
When we used to have the faculty pot luck lunches the day before Christmas break, one of the teachers brought a fruit pizza that had a large sugar cookie crust topped with cream cheese frosting covered with pineapple, mandarin orange slices, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, and grapes.
I don’t know why people are so obsessed with pointing out that the tomato is the ripened ovary of a plant, aka “a botanical fruit”.
Nobody says “peppers are fruits” or “cucumbers are fruits” or “pumpkins are fruits” or “eggplants are fruits” or “actually, botanically speaking, strawberries are NOT fruits” (they’re pseudocarps).
In botany, there is no real distinction between “fruit” and “vegetable”. Inasmuch as “vegetable” is a category at all, in botany, it just means “plant stuff”, so fruit is a subset of vegetable.
In cooking, a fruit is “something we call a fruit”, and if that seems circular it mostly means it has seeds (at least in its wild, uncultivated form) and is somewhat sweet or anyway is eaten in sweet preparations.
A vegetable is “something plant or mushroom that we eat in savory preparations”. Many culinary vegetables are botanical fruits. If it’s not a root, a stalk, or a leaf – probably a fruit! Does it have seeds? Probably a fruit!
Pineaple is not the only fruit on pizzas: there’s tomatoes, olives, peaches (yes, pizza with ham, pineaple and peach does exist, and is quite good, if not filling, kind of a “dessert” pizza), cranberries… And those are just the ones I can immediately list, I’m sure there’s plenty (or at least a couple) more.
I worked at a pizza place and one day I got curious about how a pizza would taste with ham, pineapple, and maraschino cherries, and the manager sent a driver to the grocery store to buy a jar so I could make it. It was delicious. We also made one with chicken instead of pineapple.
Dinosaur ghosts! Stop everything, this is the best ever! I have a lot of experience with weird late night thoughts, my most memorable being “Spongebob and Shakespeare are kind of the same.” No, I would not care to elaborate.
At first, I was going to write something about Breaking Dinosaur News, but their clothing is wrong for that. The Dinosaurs appear to be Courtiers in a magical medieval Dinosaur world. In that case, particular Dinosaur Herald’s would be responsible for spreading important news. It is a special cat that can access these ethereal worlds, and Pucky is the kind of pure spirit that would be welcome.
I love this particular comic, especially because other planes of existence have an essential part in my next book…that is, if I can keep out of the (%$#^%#@)* hospital and finish the darn thing.
*Parental Warning, Not suitable for young kitten eyes.
Peppers (bell, jalapeno, banana, what have you) are fruits as well. The wheat used in the dough is also a fruit. I have had pizzas with zucchini and cucumber on them, and they are fruits. Pear slices (usually with blue cheese for some reason) are sometimes on pizza. I don’t like pears so I have not actually tried those.
Second thought: if only everyone stayed up late thinking about the world’s problems, they would not be able to get up so early the next day to make new ones. :)
Given than dinosaurs were around for far longer than cats and humans, one would guess the ghost world would be pretty crowded—that’s not even considering their size.
Wonderful “explanations” and ruminations. Puck (channeling Miss Georgia of course) has a “gift”. As for the thoughts on pineapple, first, it’s an unnatural act to put pineapple on pizza; second tomatoes are fruit, in case you hadn’t noticed.
Oh, my gosh, the dinosaur spirits! That last panel made my day. I want a poster. I want a book of dinosaur ghosts.
My dream up until grad school was to be a paleontologist. Every single one of my college profs told me, over and over again, not to do it, that although I would make a great paleontologist, it was a boys’ club, that I would always work for a guy and he would always take credit for my work. That was years ago, but, apparently, not much has changed.
My son called on Friday & said they’d made the hard decision to help their Cocker Spaniel Buddy OTRB. Buddy was only 10½, but he’d been in decline for the last several months, not wanting to eat or go for walks. His hindquarters had become stiff with arthritis, he’d developed some worrisome growths on his chest & belly, & he’d been showing some alarming personality changes, guarding all the food & becoming frankly aggressive toward the other dogs. (He attacked puppy Jazzy twice outright, but his aggression wasn’t a reaction to her arrival – he’d been bullying his bro Matthew for quite a while.) He’d always been the alpha dog, but the Dreaded V.E.T. said the uptick in aggression was likely due to his being in pain from his multiple physical health issues & that he’d only continue to suffer & possibly be a danger to Matthew & Jazzy & possibly become aggressive toward his humans. 8-(
10½ is young for a Cocker Spaniel to beome a Grumpy Old Man, but Buddy came from a hoarding situation & there’s no telling what physical & emotional issues his inbreeding & early life could have left simmering beneath the surface. Good night, little Buddy; go run & play with the angels… ♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥♡♥
THANK YOU BURT! Yes, tomatos are fruit. Technically berries. HOWEVER, peppers are also fruits. Also technically berries. And peppers are also put on pizza.
Bell peppers are fruit too. I imagine you can get various chiles. When I buy coffee beans I get a free cup of coffee. I often bring the cup home and put it in the refrigerator. With patience it becomes iced coffee. My mom used to freeze coffee in ice cube trays so she could make iced coffee without diluting it.

Y’all, I just got home from seeing Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermits (none of these Hermits are OG) in concert at the Niswonger Center for the Performing Arts in Greeneville, TN. Such a fun concert!! I had a great seat in the third row orchestra section and was literally just a few feet from Peter Noone, and I just want to say he is still just as adorable as he was when I was ten years old (he has aged very well). Sang all the old Hermits hits, and made me cry by also singing the Monkees’ Daydream Believer (with his guitar players doing the Davy Jones dance from the TV show in the background) and the Beatles’ All My Loving, my favorite songs from those bands. But times have certainly changed—Peter freely mentioned which hotel they were staying in. I’m sure that would not have happened in 1965 at the height of their popularity. Yes, I was sorely tempted to do some stalking but managed to resist. I will probably also resist staking out the airport 15 minutes from Partner’s house, just because I hate to get out of bed early but no guarantees…
