Well she fooled us. There was an apology, of sorts. She keeps Kip and all returns to status quo.Maybe tomorrow the girls will wrap things up plotting a little revenge.
Oh look at that: I was proven right. As was @comic reader 22:
“I’ll say it again. Prepare yourselves for a conclusion to this story that goes absolutely nowhere. No apologies, no eviction, no break-up, no vindication, no resolution.”
I’m getting shivers. My high school best friend could have made Stef’s speech word for word, completely oblivious to anyone else’s feelings, and always trying to sound upbeat no matter what. Yet I loved her positivity and thought any problem was with me.
When we grew up, and she got divorced, she became my roommate for a time, with some others. But we had to commit her to a mental hospital when she couldn’t stop singing for seven days and nights. In the last conversation I had with her, years later, she told me about how she had just lost custody of her little boy during another hospital stint, and concluded with, “Isn’t it wonderful how I get to help Jesus bear his cross?” in that same high, fake, everything-is-fine voice, albeit a little trembling. Then I tried to find out her address but she could only give me a weird description of her metaphysical place in the cosmos. I never heard from her again.
God bless her and help her. I hope, wherever she is, that she’s all right and getting the care she needs.
Why even bother with a non-apology? Why not flat-out say something along the lines of: “I would sooner ingest hemlock than demean myself by apologizing to the likes of you!”
That’s the sentiment behind such statements anyway.
Bets has spoken for everyone here. Even sweet and peaceful Dez who always thinks the best of everyone seems to agree with her. This is so great! It’s awful that Stef goes away quietly and unable to understand how awful what she did was, but her roommates can’t stand her more and more and Kip glares at her knowing how absurd her girlfriend is. Stef’s fall may not be near, but it seems inevitable and will be awesome to see!
I would hope that when Stef returns she’ll find all of her stuff piled in the hallway with a note reading “Good luck finding somewhere else to live, it won’t be here”.
Or Tiffany will just turn to the other two and say, “Stuff this, let’s go stay at my Dad’s house this semester.”
Certainly oblivious. Weak “apology”. Kip’s shifting eye in frame 2 seems to agree with Bets’ assessments. Doesn’t seem, though, the other three are going to try to push Stef outta the quad.
Why is she back? You don’t have to keep the same dorm mates. People get told, “Find another roomie for next year.” Unless we’re caught in a time loop where everything remains in place for the next 12 years. That is a gut-wrenching fear.
So Greg must think she’s a fun character to have in the strip, but I sure don’t think so. Why on earth wouldn’t the three roomies who get along so well just have given her the boot?Got to remember this is fantasy land.
she’s hoping you all will drop it and spare her from your wrath… meh, not sure if it’s worth it anymore… there are just some people that will never learn there lessons no matter how many times they get taught it. :\
Sadly, I’ve found that in real life these are the women who wind up really wealthy. I personally know one—not a friend, but someone I went to high school with. She deliberately got pregnant because she was “in love” and knew the guy would marry her. So he didn’t go to college, instead getting a job. When she found someone richer she dumped him. She’s on husband number three and lives in a gorgeous house on the lake. I haven’t talked to her in 40 years, but friends who have say she’s still pretty and seems really happy. That’s only one example I can give—I know of others second-hand. These types of women seem to skate by and nearly always wind up doing well. They must be really good in bed because it sure isn’t their personality.
I’m telling you, emotional strike is the way to go. 2 months and 8 days of the silent treatment, and the witch we had in our quad junior year moved out. We three left celebrated with strawberry wine coolers and pizza from the good pizza place!
Evans has a knack for piling up the crap on these hateful characters to the point where you just don’t want to read the strip anymore. It happened to me with Anne Eiffel and it’s happening again now. Time to drop this strip – again.
Just an observation. Based on readers’ reactions, Greg and Karen should consider adjusting their story ending policies. Every story seems to have a character that deserves some kind of consequence for their actions, but they always back away from any kind of resolution – even though their fans want to see justice done. As a result, the comic strip ends up being milk-toast and predictable, and I don’t think that’s what they want. Maybe it is. I get involved in the stories, and especially enjoy the drawings, but it gets boring when I know it’s going to all fizzle out in the end. I would love to see them prove me wrong tomorrow. A single pane with all of Steffi’s boxes out in the hall would work for me.
You call that, an “apology,” Stef? You’d have been better off saying:
“Hey, I found My ring! No harm no foul, right ladies? Kip and I are going out to celebrate, and when I come back, we’ll discuss the privacy hut situation. I’ve got it booked for the next six months, as I knew ya’ll wouldn’t mind! Oh and Tiff? In anger, I cut up all your clothes with scissors when I thought you stole my ring! Silly me, right? Well, you needed a new wardrobe anyway, right? Gotta run! Toodles!”
One more thing.
Kip expended more energy in stopping Tiff from punching Stef, than he did in making sure that Stef sincerely atones for what she did. Instead, he allows his girlfriend to lead him out by the nose.
We can only hope that Kip will grow tired of her, and dump her, leaving Stef to implore Bets for help in doing a griping TikTok vid calling men trash. This would become far more plausible if Gun & Bets split.
I’m still thinking that it’s a HIMYM-style “autumn of breakups” in progress.
Kip, sweetie, honey, darling, sugar baby, listen please. Dump her and run. I don’t care how good she is in bed, it’s NOT WORTH IT. She’s gonna make your life miserable.
Like I keep saying hilarity ensues. I mean there is more and the disappointment we might feel with no definitive end to this near month long are is out there, one just has to be patient. It will come presently.
I would vote her off the island….or this strip! I would like to ask Kip if he really thinks this gal is worth it?I mean, the very best of times can’t be worth this idiot! There are better gals to hang out with here for sure.Yeah, I know, its just a cartoon. Since I seldom laugh at this strip I sometimes forget.
Greg often let’s a theme run for a while but brings a lesson/change in the person, like that guy that was bullying Brad, and the Tiff, look how much she’s changed.
Kip is an enabler. Getting some “action”, of course, from Stef, we get it, but an enabler none the less. I have lost respect (what little I had) for him.
Kip does not look happy with Stefi in either panel. I think he will have some harsh words for her tomorrow. She is holding onto him, he is not holding her.
Note the non-apology: “I’m sorry YOU got offended”, not “I’m sorry for what I did”. It’s beyond time to vote her and her accomplice boy-toy off the island.
One more day left and nobody mentioned the truth! Stef hid the ring under the rug and wanted the stir everything up by accusing Tiffany and others of taking it. If Kip doesn’t wake up tomorrow, he is the dumbest character in Luann!
quite simple … murder her ego. Kip finds someone nicer to date and Stef loses her concentration and starts failing at cheer and they let her go from the squad. Stock up on tissues and problem solved.
For those that might be watching tonight’s Giants game, I’ll be a few rows up right behind the plate in the Field Club section 115 yelling “Go Steffi, please go Steffi…”
I would like to see Tiffany lose weight and transform back into a gorgeous butterfly, to find that people treat her like she is Stef. She has held a job. She is working hard in college. I think at this point she would have some perspective on being treated like an ornament.
Kip is a little hard to read, altogether. Here he is giving Stef a bit of side-eye, as though he, too, thinks she’s a problem. Being a good lay can offset a multitude of problems, though, as long as he can make her stop talking. For which there is a tried and true method, but you can’t do both things at once.
Wrong on all counts, Bets. Steph isn’t delusional, oblivious, unhinged nor stupid.
She’s selfish, conceited, immature annnndddd…….
…..conniving. Very much the last. Look at the previous arcs. By one example, when the fellow girls set up a “private” room, Steph would mark it all up for herself selfishly. When the other girls sought to “adjust” this situation, she threw a tantrum, and the other girls rolled with it and let her have her way ultimately. So much for “stupid.”
Now with this latest week’s events, Steph used all conniving means to “redirect” the subject from her earlier misguided accusations. Mission accomplished for now, it seems.
Steph has increasingly become a very detestable character in this comic. But she’s really just a plot device, like Ann Eifel (“Awful”) earlier on.
She’s also the negative karma to Tiffany of what Tiff used to be to Luann in earlier decades. Recall the cell phone video recording by Tiff of Luann in the girl’s locker room, many years ago? But we should allow Tiff’s character growth in more recent years.
Someone opined earlier the future possibility of Kip getting Steph pregnant. That wouldn’t surprise me as Steph’s future wake-up call within this comic world. But we’ll see.
