Well, it looks like Luann has changed from a prude to someone on the prowl. It will be interesting to see where exactly they go with this.

There’s Tara, back to being a bad influence again.

Our girl is growing up. My opinion is that Tara is the best influence for Luann in this instance. Liking young men is normal for Lu, the problem is that she needs a “fix” to learn more about it and herself in the romance area. Ii think that is where this arc really is going.

Luann should pop over to 9 Chickweed Lane and see how a very hot lady goes after a guy she wants.

Looks like GnK are trying to flip Luann from dullsville goody next door girl into someone with sexual prowess. Well, we are in Luanniverse so I guess that’s possible.

Nancy didn’t share her books with Luann because she thought she would despise them and now Luann loves those books and admires the author… Nancy was wrong to think badly of her daughter, how sad. Now Luann and Tara go to class together, probably it will be a writing class. Will we see new classmates? A really good new professor? Let’s hope so. I totally love seeing Luann so cheerful and vital♡.

Pretty nice weather for January 16th in that part of Ohio that the DeGroot’s live in.

I don’t know why they are continuing this story about Luann learning to write trashy romance novels. What happened to her goal of becoming a teacher? I guess she could do both…in some world where she was really motivated and hard working. I think the readers who think this is just a lead-in to a new romance for her are probably right. At least she’s putting herself out there, really putting herself out there. If she intends to keep walking around campus ogling boys like that she needs to learn how to do the whistle.

That romance novel has encouraged Luann to open her eyes to the joys of romantic genres and try to pursue looking for a man.

They keep harping on this $1.3B number. But when everybody and their dog is writing these books, that number becomes less impressive. Then consider that the publishers and distributors (cough Amazon cough) take a chunk of the profit, you’re going to have to churn the novels out like cans of Spam on a production line to start raking in the cash.

There’s a reason those old Harlequin novels were sold out of grocery stores and not legit bookstores.

LuAnn needs to read up on Dr. Ruth Westheimer. Should provide all the research she needs w/o getting herself into an unintended jam with a man. Some who thing NO is spelled YES.

Pfffttt… Ann Eiffel’s research is a hella better than checking out some dork’s patoot. Ann Eiffel is, shall we say, more hands on. LOTS more hands on if you know what The Count means and The Count thinks you do… >;9

A friend who switched from writing mystery/thrillers to “erotic romance” once told me her husband really appreciates the change, and not just because she’s making more money.

Hmmm. My prediction that this was the end of the arc was wrong, just as I suspected. Does this mean we will see the booksigning, since I also predicted that we would not?

Abstinent to promiscuous in 3… 2… 1…

I hope we’ll see the book signing and Luann will get advice from the author. (I kinda hope it’s Fogarty/Phelps cause either would be amusing) Plus, I like the idea of Nancy and Bernice getting a kick out of how quickly the scandalized “Mademoiselle Prude” routine went out the window after Luann read one paragraph about Jacques and the Countess.

About Luann storylines and where they can go from here, I’m always down for Luann and Tiffany teaming up as “Belligerent Buddies” cause you can get a lot of funny scenes from that. I like it better than putting Luann with Bernice, who’s reactions to Luann’s ever-changing whims are to snark and not get invested. If Luann and Tiffany try to both get back into the swing of dating boys after both lost their drive for it, it would have potential for hijinks!

Definite progress on Luann’s part; she actually yearns to do something creative and productive, whatever the motivation. It remains to be seen if she keeps the focus; the people around her especially Tara, who now talks like a writer, are a big help.

Research: Watch Romancing the Stone and The Lost City

Dang, James Tiberius Kirk just walked on campus.

Why?

Tara you have created a monster.

So the questions I pose are:

1. Will WRITING be an avocation that Luann sticks with? Or is it being used simply as a vehicle to get her more actively dating?

2. Will Nancy & Bernice (and now perhaps Luann and perhaps even Tara) actually go to the book signing? Or was that only a throw-away plot diversion?

3. If they DO go to the book signing, will there be a twist (like it being Fogarty (unlikely), or perhaps the author is a younger fellow and he makes “romantic eyes” at either Luann or Bernice (not likely a young author, but if so, it could cause a big rivalry))?

4. If the whole “writing” focus is just to get Luann more actively dating, will there be some potential suitors that are NEW characters that are developed and remain, or will it be just a series of “one-time” panels of fellows we will never hear of or see again?

I have no dam* idea how this may pan out.

My ex-wife liked to do “research”… unfortunately, it was while we were married!

Time to bring back, Luann’s former boyfriend who went to the Big Apple for fame and fortune….at least for a visit. :^)

Forget it. Real life research is nothing like what’s in those books.

Research is great in certain areas, but the research you are considering won’t necessarily make you a great author.

I see Greg still hasn’t figured out what he should do with his character’s hands, so Luann is looking like a Barbie doll in the last panel.

“all weekend” to read a 150 page romance novel? We are not talking Atlas Shrugged here. Do not be surprised if the “author” is a computer (AI)(if not now certainly when Luann is ready to write) that can turn out a formulistic novel in an hour.

So now Luann’s checking out guys who cosplay as James T. Kirk, eh?? There’s hope for her yet!

OT: Does anybody know how to keep GoComics from notifying me about replies I got to comments that were made months and sometimes years ago? Every time I got to check out a reply it turns out it’s one I read before and it was made in the past. Just wondering, thanks!

So let me guess….in six months lu will be expecting an unexpected.

Now go do some more research and find out how many authors are actually able to make a comfortable living at it. There’s a huge market, but an even larger pool of writers fighting to get published and only a fraction of a fraction gain any fame.

I’m confused. When did they sign up for a writing class? Good for you, Mrs. Horner! Someone mentioned her as being D. Coverly. I think we’re in for another surprise. ;-)
