I’m a bit surprised. Mr Johnson typically doesn’t do self-referential strips, which worries me a bit. I write a weekly humor column for our newspaper and I’ve always believed that the 4th wall should remain unmolested except under the most serious conditions.
Fourth wall aside, I have never understood why people would think a color, or any other factor of aesthetics, is good one year but then the next year it’s wrong, due to changing styles. Aesthetic qualities to me are intrinsic, and they don’t fluctuate with the fashion world. And why would she have chosen that color in the first place, if is problematic for the reasons she states?
Bought our sofa about a year or two after we bought the house – no slip cover on it, but we have had it for 30 years and it is it in pristine condition as are the two chairs we bought around the same time.

I think JJ wants a new color palette and is speaking through Janis.

I’d go for a lush purple.
mnexplorer+ almost 2 years ago
I bet it is.
Jason Allen almost 2 years ago
So go get a slip cover. It’s cheaper and washable.

R.I.P. fourth wall.
nosirrom almost 2 years ago
She’ll be happy until the first stain. Olive drab can hide a lot.

You could always go back to salmon . .

Nothing more boring than neutral beige.

Once upon a time, over 11 million men wore olive drab.

I thinl Janis clapped her hands and magically changed its color.
david_42 almost 2 years ago
Looked into getting the old Lazyboys re-covered. It’s cheaper to buy new chairs.
Dr. Whom almost 2 years ago
If you had always lived in a comic strip, you would think this is normal. So evidently Arlo has a history…
Chris almost 2 years ago
ain’t least I ain’t thee artist… it be even weirder and more chaotic. :D
SteveHL almost 2 years ago
It could be a lot worse, Arlo. You could be living in Mary Worth.
jarvisloop almost 2 years ago
We all live in our own version of a comic strip. That way, reality is easier to endure.
Also, Elon Musk and Scott Adams favor the idea that we live in a simulation.

Were it only that easy.

It must be. I’d like to give it a try someday.

Did Janis wiggle her nose between panels 4 and 5?

I love the Capt. Marvel reference in the last panel!

I like the green one better! Just add some accent pillows for a different look!
raybarb44 almost 2 years ago
Maybe, but it does parody real life pretty close at time, like right now……

I like a dark color that doesn’t show dirt and stains…

What happened to the salmon sofa?
SteveR405 almost 2 years ago
They should go with the same pattern as the shirts worn by the 1999 USA Ryder Cup team. That would clash with everything.

I don’t get why current bland colors generate enthusiasm.

That olive green goes great with sooo many colors. Purple, orange, a lighter lime green, hot pink, so many!

Slipcovers are a cheap and easy way to do this. And they can be tossed in the wash when they get a bit whiffy.

I was expecting a super bowl comic, JJ seems to do the football ones a lot, which of course seeing that I hate football I just skip over those ones.

When you lose your olive drab colored pencil just before the last frame but thankfully had not filled in the speech bubbles yet.
fjblume2000 almost 2 years ago
Not as weird as the (sofs, couch, divanport) hanging color from panel to panel. See, Janis, Arlo really is magic! And a keeper, as if you didn’t know!
