WTG Bets! Nice job giving Tiff some good advice she really needs to hear!
I hope she takes it to heart and decides to give the guys their place back.
If she hates being around Stef so much… she should ask her dad to get her her old big dorm room back. With all the money Tom has saved from getting Ann out of his life, he can easily afford to do that. Housing problem solved!
.
It just me… or is Tiff almost unrecognizable in the 3rd panel?
Dam, Bets spitting FACTS today, no lies detected. And Tiff needed this, a firm callout from someone who won’t be redirected or manipulated. She needs to remember her goal bc seriously. Are you actually sobbing at the thought of moving back into the dorm because…..your roommate has too much sex??? C’mon now, it’s irritating af, but not that bad of an issue lol.
Looks like I was right to be optimistic bc it looks like Bet’s is going to get through to her. I predict it will end with Tiff apologizing and moving out, and we’ll revisit the Grays attitude towards Bets some other time.
Have we ever seen Tiff from this angle before? Maybe Tiff can move into Betts room with Dez now that Betts is shacking up with Gunther. Then when Al and Irma kick Betts out, Betts can move into Tiff’s former room with Steph. Betts would certainly put Steff in her place.
Tough love Bets style. Dorm is a no because you have Stef and Kip and Dez. Option 2 is the mansion the only way i see that happing is if Les stays there with he for a few days to make to set the alarm.
Cue up an old ’80s fave of mine from down under: “Out That Door!” by the Hoodoo Gurus. Time to face the real world Tiff you have took advantage of the lads for way too long!
Tiff, if you were acting “grown-up” you wouldn’t be wailing and shedding fake tears like a 6 year old not getting their way. You have access to a mansion that looks like the biltmore estate. You don’t need to go to the dorm. What on earth are you crying about?
Silly scenario: Al and Irma horn in, kick out Gunth and Bets, and install Tiff (heck, they might as well adopt her—like Shannon, she is a victim of an absent father, no?). It’s only going to get more awkward from here…
Respectfully, life can have a lot more lollypops in it without “friends” like you Bets. Tiff has taken more abuse than most of the characters on here, so she’s fully aware that life is not always sunshine and lollipops. Better advice: learn to write a contract. most of Tiffs problems have been due to a miss match in boundaries and expectations. So, stephani & dorms? Write a roommate contract of behavior. Steph & storage? Write a contract limiting liability. Les? An explicit contract on $ split at work. I think tiffs best bet is still to accept her friends aren’t a very good support network for her, and limit her liability with them accordingly. But no one can accuse Tiff of not growing up, at least as compared to Gunther, Luann, Les, and even Bets, who needs to learn a thing or two about management and people skills if she ever plans to scale her $ plans.
Ahem, Bets being the adult in the room, actually being a helpful friend, nothing new between Tiffany and Bets. Notice only them features on the comic stage in the panels? Tiffany is in agony actually, it goes back to her daddy issues IMHO, but I sincerely hope this turn in the twists and turns leads to good end. That l, in the midst of the fullness of this are is beautiful. I’d course “scorned” selfish, pushy girl Bets, still has to meet up with the disparate hostility of Al and Irma, or maybe not. We’ll see. But Tiffany desperately needs to "grow up ". Let’s hope she does.
What the heck has been happening with the mansion during all this? Is the window fixed?? Did she ever tell Tom? The place has a security system and she admitted that she didn’t turn it on, so move back to the house, turn on the security system, maybe get a roommate or two so you’re not there alone, and there you are.
No more on this, but the Bets scorn is alive and well I see, but the tide could be turning. Tiff is in agony here for real, in Luannverse. As for Gun and Bets, and Les, the story is still unfolding. The story informs the characters in it, not the other way around.
Life is not rainbows and lollipops for Ann Eiffel, either. Her tastes are much more expensive. Oh, how we miss Ann Eiffel! We ❤️ Ann Eiffel and can’t wait for her return.
It’s a tragicomedy, that is why she is drawn that way, she is clearly in agony. She is depending on her friends kindness to hide from her problem, but Bets is trying to get her to see hiding ain’t working. This is classic tragicomedy. I hope hilarity ensues in a solution though. Tiffany has to stop being a poor little rich girl.
Tiffany has come a long way since high school and although she isn’t a bullying brat anymore, she’s still trying to get something for nothing, which is ruining her chances at a truly successful future.
Pipe was right; Tiff does need counseling and she’s getting some right now. There’s anger and conflict. But she rose to the challenge when Tom was living with Ann so surely she can deal with minor things. Hey, if she doesn’t want to be in the same room with Steffie take a page from Les’s book; put a couple bean bag chairs in the common area and sleep there. BTW how is it that she can’t stand the dorm when she just went back there (probably) for a party?
These characters of this comic do not strike me as very mentally disciplined. They are not the pioneer types to put up a log cabin in Alaska. They are not the breed that would get a job on a crab boat, like in “Deadliest Catch”, and work an 16 hour shift sling crab pots. These characters are not like the 40s generation that fought a war and built modern America. These characters are not even as tough as the 50, 60s, and 70s. Heck, even the 80s generation had some difficulties, such as an endless recession. This group? They are soft and contemptible.
Bets is not a happy camper because she realizes after yesterday she will have to build some muscle to carry Gunther around as he has no legs of his own to stand on.
And again, Bets comes so close to being useful, only to fumble the ball near the goal. Tiffany exposes a problem, and Bets immediately dismisses it. Bets turns herself into another adversary instead of a collaborator.
I suppose I shouldn’t expect much of her, since her primary social trait is bulldozing others’ feelings for her own comfort.
Wow, seeing so much “tough love” in the comments. Seems the Bets fans are really fond of unproductive platitudes, shouting, disregarding feelings, and bullying. Perhaps it is they who should, to use the phrase, “Grow up!”
Tiff needs to start acting like a grownup. Screaming I am is still a part of her fantasy. If she hates the dorm, then get out of the dorm room, get her deposit and rent back, reimburse the two guys, and move back into the mansion.
Say what you want about her but Bets is right here.
Tiffany has gotten over by using using her charm and sex appeal (Mostly on guys) for years. Sadly, she’s taken advantage of three guys that actually give a darn about her the most: Ox, Gunther and (GAG) Les.
The “free ride” can’t last forever. (But if you tell that to “folks” in real life, you are accused of being “greedy and selfish,” but I digress)
The solutions are simple:
1) Switch dorm rooms.
2) Or tough it out and stay at the manse until the school year ends. And for God’s sake tell your dad what happened. Pretty sure he’ll come up with a solution.
3) Reconnect with Simone of Soufflé lingerie in Paris over the Summer and talk about REAL future business opportunities. Take Bets with you.
4) OR, go back to the dorm and punch Stef in the face.
So Greg and Karen have morphed Tiffany – from the savy, fashionable, clever girl who took down Ann Eiffel, to a sniveling, pathetic, spoiled cry baby in serious need of psychological analysis. It is beyond bizarre and ruins the stories for readers who have followed the comic strip and their favorite characters. Next, I guess they’ll have Ann Eiffel show up in a nun’s habit.
They need to get a clue and realize that their readers like to identify with the characters, follow their progress and cheer their accomplishments. When they completely change their character’s personas and introduce inconsistencies, it destroys their connection with the audience. I find myself looking at it every day now just for the drawings and the chance to practice my writing in the comments. Maybe someone should be creating the stories who is capable of remembering the basic personality traits of each character in the comic strip?
Actually, except for her social media addiction, Bets seems to be the only adult in the room most of the time. I wonder what the backstory is about her and her family?
Bets getting to the point. I like this. And, my, how times have changed. Years ago, Greg had to use clever word play to discuss Luann’s menstruation. Now, he (and Karen) can just use “badass” in their strip.
Even when Tiffany gets character development, she STILL exists for the other characters to compare themselves to and decide they’re better than her. It’s especially awkward since she’s put on weight. A little bit of added weight shouldn’t change her love of fashion/makeup, but now Luann and Bernice are even drawn in more flattering clothing than her. Like the girl is relegated to wearing frumpy clothing to make her look worse by comparison.
Also, while I think Bets made good points, it seems awkward that she’s giving Tiffany a dressing down while shaming her into acting like a toddler in front of her friends. I mean Crystal mostly existed to deflate Tiffany’s ego with snarky one-liners, but I could at least get behind it cause they were implied to have been friends for a long time. Here, it feels very weird coming from this girl who’s barely known her for a year’s worth of comic strip time and could barely be called her friend. I couldn’t imagine a confident Tiffany Farrell just letting some girl she wouldn’t willingly hang around with reduce her to a sniveling mess in front of her friends.
If I were going to hold out hope for a cool twist that I know would be way too good to be true (because we’re stuck in a yo-yo-ing degradation-validation cycle), I’d wish that this dragged out dorm/manse/gulag story would end with Tiffany inviting Crystal and Knute to live with her in the manse since those two characters would be fun to see the college Tiffany interact with since her sense of humor and ability to self-reflect have (usually) gotten a lot better. I know that GnK basically killed off Crystal and Knute for as much as they matter to the strip anymore but I liked them a lot better than most of the new additions to the college cast. Delta too.
Bets is talking to Tiff like a parent talks to a toddler to get them to eat their vegetables. “Eat your spinach so you’ll grow up big and strong.”
Tycoon? Oh – that’s right; Tiff dreams of being a “tycoon” like she formerly dreamed of being a movie star. And she’s just as far from reality with this dream. Imagine this Tiff dealing with hard-edged businessmen; she’d break down and burst into tears at the first hard bargain.
I don’t see why Tiffany couldn’t ask her father about possibly getting an off-campus apartment if she hates the dorm that bad. That said, Tiffany living with the boys without contributing and expecting to be waited on hand and foot, while she goes out and party is what makes her reprehensible. In fact, I find Tiffany more unlikable than hot in the pants, Stef.
Tiff’s fundamental problem is that she only recently (in Luanniverse time) was a spoiled rich girl, and now she has to live like everybody else does. She can’t stand it. Will she grow into her situation or will she collapse entirely?
As I constantly have pointed out lately. I do think the resolution GnK have chosen will be for the 4 to move into the McManse. Perhaps Dez will follow; maybe Stef and Lee will also but less likely. That will set up a kind of Friends TV situation. We’ll watch life, love and career situations evolve; which could be interesting if GnK can pull it off.
Tiffany thought she had life figured out but it threw her quite a few curveballs. As she navigates and tries, the conflicts seem to be molding her into a better person. It’s not easy to grow up when daddy pays for everything yet isn’t present to guide her with words of encouragement and correction.. her whole life.
Bets cares about what is best for Tiffany and is trying to help her. Bets is being a real friend to her today. Better than how Gunther and Les interact with Tiffany.
The water works aren’t impressing Bets. And Bets is being a good friend by giving Tiffany tough love. She DOES need to regain her independence and she needs to feel empowered and self sufficient again. Something can always be worked out in the dorm—-changing roommates or getting her private room back. Times have changed and I’m sure Daddy can afford that again. Or at least afford some live in staff and better security to make his little girl feel safe in the lodgings of her choice. But she needs to GO.
Me? I’m still trying to figure out where bets got the bedroom robe she is wearing? I mean did she bring it to the show expecting to bed down with Gunth?
LMAO @ all the support Betsy is getting from the readers because she CARES so MUCH about Tiffany. She only cares about how Tiffany’s living arrangement is affecting her and Gunths sexy times. I dislike this pushy abrasive person that Gunths has hooked up with. She’s also a user and I hope Gunnie’s Mommy and Uncle Al gets wind of the hookup and tosses Gunnie out on his ears for disobeying Al’s House rules. Something shady about that girl.
Tiff has come so far, and still has so far to go. At least she seems to be trying now, and is a way better person than she was before though still has a manipulative side to her, especially when it comes to males. Don’t blame her for not liking the arrangements at the dorm or wanting to live alone. So why not move back to the mansion, and invite Ox to use one of the other rooms?
I honestly did not think I would ever like Bets….but here I am now, thinking she is just the BOMB!!! She seems like the only adult in this whole messy arc.
Tiff made a nice (although presumably inadvertent) nod to the Garfield comic strip in the final panel, with her mouth becoming an entire face (a long time punch line over at Casa de Arbuckle). Good one.
Say what you want about Bets, but she dropped some practical truth on Tiff, that I hope she comes to grips with, and accepts. I know Tiff is a spoiled rotten brat, but I still have hope for her! I’ve seen some glimpses of a good heart underneath all that selfishness!
Bets’ slamming Tiff isn’t finding a solution, only making Tiff feel bad about herself. Her apparent screaming isn’t necessary, not is it her place. They, with the guys, should be discussing a solution. Enough of the over the top dramatics and belittling.
Tiffany only wants to be a “tycoon” because she got a taste of not being able to buy anything she wants. Buying stuff is how she fills in the empty place where her dad and friends ought to be.
Ack, out of time to finish reading all the comments. My apologies if someone else said thisi already. But look back at what Bets actually says. Several comenters have said that tycoons mooch off of people. Bets says the OPPOSITVE. She says that tycoons RULE! That Tiffany is the one mooching and acting like a princess, etc.

Yay, Bets!

If this were real storytelling …

Ox will do anything for Tiff including moving in to the Mansion.

Bets cares about what is best for Tiffany and is trying to help her. Bets is being a real friend to her today. Better than how Gunther and Les interact with Tiffany.

Poor sweet, SPOILED baby! I know Tiffany is a useless, spineless daddy’s-girl, but I still love her.:’(

Bets is reminding Tiffany of her true potential and her best self. I hope it works.

Get some roommates and move back into the mansion!

Talk about drama queens, I think Tiff took the crown.

It baffles me why Tom is paying huge property taxes on an empty mansion nobody’s using AND paying for Tiffany’s dorm room.
