I guess I’m dense, but is it not conceivable that, as a human with autonomy, Bets decided she’d like to travel some more, and it doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with strife? Couples don’t have to be glued together. Perhaps there is an element of.. dare I say it.. sexism here? ;)

Following hundreds of posts featuring Bets & Gun, it might be hard for Bets to broadcast her daily activities with no further mention of Gunther. Gunther should locate one of their fans and have them ask about Gunther – just to find out what Bets’s reply would be.

Quebec! Regardless of the future of the relationship, Gunther has missed the time of his life, and the best French cuisine in North America. College will always be there, and they will always be glad to take his or Mom’s money. And for gosh sakes, if he really loves her, why is he not communicating with her on a constant basis? It seems he is the one who moved on, because he’s a sad, poor, boring schmuck. Is he really the same guy who had the stones to go to South America? I like Gunther, but she can do better. He’ll still be a bachelor when he’s 40.

I just wonder if we’re going to see Bets again. Maybe … but I wouldn’t wager we will.

Do we know if Gunther is currently in school? He does not appear to have any job. Why did Gunther want to go back home soon? If Bets had some money and Gunther did not – that could have been a big issue.

Just as well, they were not very compatible as a couple!

Dear Greg and Karen,

Once the dust settles on this arc, and the books are shipped and finally in the hands of those who ordered them, would you please consider making two changes in the character’s bios?

1) Under Gunther’s bio, would you remove the line about Bets being “The bright spot in Gunther’s life?” Recent events seem to dictate otherwise.

2) And under Bets bio, would you please remove the “What a perfect match for Gunther!” Line? Because, I mean, has she ever really been? Seriously?

And yeah, I too bought an autographed copy of your limited edition book.

And NO, I’m not going to go all “Ferengi” and sell it for a HUGE PROFIT on eBay.

There’s no reason to believe she’s being written out. People make different choices. Gunther wanted to be back for the start of the new semester. Bets is more of a free spirit and wants to travel a while longer. She’ll likely come back to him, or maybe he’ll decide to go join up with her again. We’ll see.

Has Les ever even HAD a girlfriend? He needs to say less

You know, they are missing out on a huge opportunity here. They need to actually have a Instagram or Tik-Tok for Bets. Then run the whole story through that. With the fan base, they would make more in ad revenue than they will from the book. Instagram accounts with 1,000 followers make $1,420/month on average and up to $100 per sponsored post. But Yeah, the book is a much better idea…

Will Bets at least send Gunter his half of what they paid for the campervan? Will she fall for some uniformed officer of Surete d’ Quebec?

Well now, if Bets is able to drive all the way to Quebec in that 33-year-old rustbucket, kudos to Toni for her skill as a mechanic!

Quebec is a French province where French is the official language… you are travelling there and cannot speak the languuage, they will find someone who speaks English. I travel through Quebec every suummer and my French is just average, but I have NEVER had any problems. I was actuually born in the English area of Montreal.

Ok. I’ve gone back through the comics (admittedly I’ve not paid to see what happened on their trip) and I see a complete disconnect. It seemed like the two of them had a great time albeit the van was wrecked and now she’s gone with no explanation except she is travelling? What happened? What is going on? I know cast in shows and comics get killed off, but at least have a transition not just they’re embracing while “dad” gets a nearly $1000 bill and then weirdness after.

She can watch English movies with French subtitles OR French movies with English subtitles

Why isn’t Gunther following Bets on social media? If they are still together, they would be texting and calling pretty often. How long before Gunther can starting dating someone else if he still thinks he is with Bets? I’d guess he will find another woman as pushy as Bets and the new woman will tell him he is free to start dating her.

What are her million-or-so social media followers saying online about this turn of events?

Or, maybe from Gunther’s point of view, “If you love something, set it free…”

And there you have it………

So here’s the thing: Bets lives in a dorm, so she packs all her belongings at the end of the semester anyway – it’s almost a given she would have her passport with her, if she has a passport at all. It is also almost a given that Gunther would NOT, as that would require a conscious decision on his part. Gunther departing is probably giving Bets the opportunity to go to Quebec.

Also, after reading some comments: Bets is not IN Quebec, she just decided to head there, AFTER Gunther left. Which happened a few hours ago. This is the discussion continuing right after dinner, which was being set up as Gunther was arriving. And which he cut as short as he could. So they’ve been apart for around 2 hours, plus however long it took him to travel back.

This arc has become a bore

When Bets goes to the “southern hemisphere” with someone other than Gunther then you should worry.

1) I hope Bets is not giving up on school.

2) Bets and Gun are allowed to follow different interests without ending their relationship.

Gunthie, you got dumped! Mostly your own doing. The woman is a free spirit, and you’re still chained to your withered personality. Either man up, shed your inhibitions and pursue her if you want her, or sink into your perpetual state of gloom and remorse. You either accept her faults or fall back into your own.

I’m really wondering what the “Do you trust us?”-worthy, novella-worthy, “unprecedented U-turn” is here. So, apparently Gunth got dumped. Again. Another relationship got blown up, in the long, long string of relationships that have gotten killed off by the strip’s authors. So….so what? They’re just doing what they love to do: build things up a bit, then either blow them up, or just let them starve to death. It’s their thing.

Bets is pretty adventurous and brave or daft…traveling alone ᕕ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕗ

Memo to Gunth: She’s just not that into you. If it was luv she’d be in town with you, not in another country headed for the farthest Province she can pronounce on the map.

Gunther’s a wuss who’s afraid to be out of his safe space for too long before he goes running back to mommy.

Ah Quebec, where everyone, in my experience, is so much ‘better than you’. Where you hear the expression “Because we’re French!” as a reason for the double standard. Bets will feel at home.

Wait a second: if she was being so public about everything why is it a mystery to other characters?

Rosa’s still in the Southern Hemisphere, I think, so maybe Gunther has a point.

I hope this whole story moves on to another one. I am tired of it already!

I kinda think she is moving on Gunther.

Gunther must have left a lot of his clothes in the van if all he came back with was one backpack which might have held 1 change of clothes at most.

It’s possible she needs to be away from Gunth just to know how badly she needs to be near him.

I think Bets will be back but that she and Gunther may be done. It’s a shame, he almost grew with her. And, she definitely needs him as her anchor. Being “free” is fine but freedom comes with responsibilities and obligations; Bets doesn’t seem to understand or respect that.

I went on a road trip with a cousin of mine when I was 19. Told my girlfriend I’d be back in a couple of months. She said she would wait forever if that’s what it took. I was only gone a month, arrived at a relatives house and a “dear john” letter was waiting for me. I was crushed but after a couple of drinking binges I got over it. The wench.

I’m just going to throw this out there.

Anybody want to buy in on the totally insane notion that G&K are about to throw, not just a curveball, but a total knuckleball and tell us a story — on panel — about Gunther not doing a replay of the Rosa story, hitching up his pants and taking off like a bat out of he11 to catch up to the woman he’s said he loves?

And that road trip we do get treated to now and again in the daily strip?

Bonus: Al calls him crazy. Says they should cut him off. And Irma in a sweet, but terrifying way, tells Al, “Oh Al, honey, don’t go making me choose between you and my Gunther.

You won’t like the answer.” ;-)

Gunther, if you love someone, let them go. If they come back, they are yours to keep. If they don’t, it wasn’t meant to be.

Wait for it, the patented misdirection play, is all I say.

The northern hemisphere seems to be seen by Gunther not as the end of the world. I wonder if he would change his mind if Bets decided to visit Peru. Maybe then he could see that Les is right. Then maybe I’m wrong and once she returns, Bets’ love for Gunther will be stronger than ever. But for now it seems to be over and only the farewell sentences are missing.

The way she uses social media, it won’t be hard to find out.

A good break for Gunther. I would suggest that Bernice would be a better match for him.

So, Gunny is subliminally thinking of the Southern Hemisphere, which is where Peru is, which is where Rosa is (as far as we know), which is the last “girl friend” pre-Bets to ditch him?

Was Gunther really happy with her? It feels like his best moments with her were ones spent in his universe. If Gunther wants a girl more like him, best be careful of what you wish. The most uncomfortable thing a person can look into is a mirror.
