I could totally hear a Scottish accent coming from Thimblefist. His beef can does resemble a kilt, if you let your imagination run wild.

I also like Georgia’s different signature with her stylized initials.

I’m glad the Scribe is getting all of this action recorded. A moment for the history books. Thimblefist will forever be the hero of the day.

What’s particularly heroic about this is that unlike Magazine, Thimblefist is exactly barn owl-breakfast-sized! Wicket might really hurt little Mag but she’s really too big and well-armed for him to carry off. BTW I saw a similar scene tonight, one of my barred owls dove and missed a mouse in a tree near me. I think he was most put out and flew off in a huff. Large opposum and baby raccoon both made themselves scarce.

Thimblefist was in the foreground of yesterday’s comic, which maybe should have been a bit of foreshadowing. I sure wish it had been Monty, though, who somehow came through and saved the day. He may yet come through. It’s only Tuesday.

Oh, wow, there’s a literal huge crack in Wicket’s beak. That’s going to put him back at the Quinn Sanctuary for a while, possibly for good, if it can’t heal?

For those of you who commented on my OT comment from last night (on Monday’s comic — this is getting confusing!) Anyway, I left an update on Monday’s comic on my hubby. It’s near the bottom of my OT comment. If anyone can’t find it, or would prefer I copy and post it here, let me know. It isn’t too difficult to copy and paste it here.

If that beak had connected, it could have done some damage to the princess, especially since her crown seemed to have gotten knocked off. However, I do have to comment that an owl (or any raptor actually) going at their prey beak first is not usually the way they attack their prey. So suspending disbelief a bit here for a wonderful outcome (which we all knew Georgia would come up with).

Hooray for Thimblefists! A heroic warrior SHOUTMUNK! A legend for the ages! May ballads of his deeds be sung throughout the land!

And the comments go wild.

I was expecting Burt but dang thimble fist nice save.

So with a broken beak, does that mean that Wicket is doomed to pureed food from the Freddie Quinn Wlidlife Center for the rest of his miserable life and the field animals are free from him??It is his beak that cracked and not Thimblefist’s thimble/paw, right??And what’s happening with puck!?!? I know, i know, patience grasshopper.

That is one honking big owl. Very scary. I doubt the fight is out of him yet so the Robber Mice and the other fighters can get in some blows. I’m still waiting for the fire extinguisher and that bag of flour to be deployed.

I just realized that Monty and Mona are both there looking on as well. So maybe there will be some interaction with Monty and Wicket where he tells him to buzz off or something at least.

This prompted me to do a bit of research on cracked beaks. Birds have nerve endings in their beaks, so Wicket may be in for a world of hurt, like a toothache from a cracked tooth. Beaks grow the way our nails do, so it might grow out and heal just fine with time. But it could also get infected, or his beak end could fall off. Looks like a job for Dr. Man and nursing care and a soft diet and rehab at Quinn. Opinions are mixed on whether a patch attached by superglue would be a good idea or not. Could save the beak, but the glue application could be painful. And as those of us who’ve accidentally superglued our fingers together might guess, there’s always a risk of getting glue on his tongue or accidentally glueing his beak shut. In any case, his predatory career’s likely to be on hold for a while.

Well, it’s not how I thought it would happen, but at least someone whacked him one in the mouth. So I’m satisfied. :D Good on ya’ Thimblefist!

That “pop”… Do you suppose that Thimblefist bounced off of Beatrix’s head as he rolled down the hill? Could that have been what gave him the momentum to meet Wicket in the air?

…And back to the wildlife center goes Wicket.

Those who predicted that Thimblefist would be the hero were right on target.

Owl just says someone going to needs a prosthetic beak set.

Well it appears Wicket has spent too little time in the wild. The proper form for attack is talons first. One talon for the chipmunk and another for the young raccoon.

Thimblefist took care of Bea in the tree too. He’s been an unsung hero for awhile. But no more!!!

If only Dr. Scuttles could have been there to witness this. Hopefully he’ll get to see a replay on BCN.

Will there be a scene with sweeping music where the Princess gives the Mercenary With a Heart of Gold a medal?

I can see Homestyle and Thimblefist being offered jobs as royal bodyguards, but maybe with a more spectacular-sounding title.

I wonder if they would turn it down because they prefer the freedom of mercenary life?

Even if the former is true now, if they ever want to leave behind the uncertainty of mercenary living, they have a place with the Raccoons.

When young Mag and Bea are in danger, the small but mighty hero Thimblefist, without hesitation, hurls himself at the much larger foe and strikes a decisive blow!

And I love how Bea does her best to shield young Mag – I believe they’ll be fast friends in the years to come.

I see a BFF developing between Bea and young Mag.

Quite the satisfactory villain smiting! Now to clear up the Puck subplot and then onward to the Victory Ceremonies and appropriate feasting! Wrapping up just in time for Halloween!

Either way, the horror of all this is not only frightening but will cause mental torment and anguish to young children everywhere.

The reason the mice are always so ready to tussle with him is because he picked off their ancestors, including the Golden Mouse’s mate. (This is never said by the characters, but if you look over the paintings of Agatha’s life during the Golden Mouse Saga in ‘Elvis Puffs Out’, the timeline is there.) While the cats are somewhat sheltered from the cruelty of outdoor predators, the Wildlands creatures know exactly what Wicket is capable of. Their stakes are high. Thimblefist is not thwarting a kidnapping, he is saving Princess Magazine’s life. “…Even a small thing can carry a lot of weight in the right paws.” A tiny hero rises!”
