In the most recent Canadian general election in 2021, the Liberal party won 33.1% of the popular vote; the Conservative Party 34.3%. But the Liberal Party won 157 seats in Parliament compared to 121 seats for the Conservatives.

If voting doesn’t work, maybe a balloon will.

There’ll be many jobs at the three – or is it four – new pipelines in BC.

Have you not been paying attention to Canadian politics? Our democracy is probably in even worse shape than yours. And we don’t have the same safeguards in our Constitution that you do…not that that is helping you any, by the look of things.

Canada’s too cold. Head for Tahiti or Bora Bora. Or maybe New Zealand.

Yeah like Canada wants a bunch of USians coming over the border. No more than many USians want people from further south coming in.

actually, i find this funny partly because some of my fellow (but even much more privileged) liberals/progressives say things like, “If the Orange Man wins, I’m moving to France!” Don’t slam the door on the way out. What a a chicken—— thing to say :)

Canada here. We’re all blowing south, really hard. Like Alberta, we have a rat-free border.

PS That’s true. They have rat patrols along the border checking incoming farm machinery etc. You shoulda seen the action when a nest of rats infested a dump in southern Alberta a few years ago. They started with bulldozers and terriers. Locals were investigating what countries might sell them small nukes.

Post-Democracy USA, there’s really nowhere else to go…

The USA was not founded or exists as a Democracy. Can anyone answer the civics question as to the actual type of government that was created?

Have a large sign that says Weather Balloon, so NORAD doesn’t shoot you down. Better yet, make the passenger basket look like Santa’s sleigh. They’d never shoot that down. (Hope I haven’t given China any ideas!)

Empires: Rome, British, Mongol. Governments: Kings, dictators. They have all passed away. This Representative Democracy will also fade, eventually.

It started way back, when the poorer people realized they outnumbered the rich, and gathered together under political umbrellas to vote themselves bread and circuses, paid for by others. Of course, the leaders of those political parties rake off some of the cream for themselves. So they have a vested interest in continuing the charade.

It’s taken a while to get to this point, and we have a way to go, but we are inching in the direction of collapse. It won’t be too soon, but it will come.

Sorry, if you care about democracy, you’re not going to be better off in Canada.

It’s The Grass Is Always Greener Syndrome. I left the U.S. more than decade ago and moved to Ecuador. I cringe at what has happened to the United States in the time since I left and am glad I moved when I did.

That said, we have our social and political problems here, just like everywhere else. There’s no Utopia! You can’t run away from the world.

Canada no longer has a Democracy. It is a Trudeau dictatorship.

Our democracy is currently being threatened by Fox News, MSNBC, social media, and the soft malleable brains of the citizens.

Problems are like Blue Shells in Mario Kart.

I would probably prefer Australia or New Zealand. Like Randy Newman once told us, “Canada’s too cold.”

You think Canada, or anywhere else, is going to be “safe?” That’s pretty optimistic.

I left with my ballon for The Cayman Islands. Much warmer than Canada & kinder than the US.

Forget Canada…I’m looking at some prime real estate a little further. I hear the far side of the moon is nice this time of year. Certainly better then Mars, as its been said its not the kind of place to raise your kids…

Only problem with that is that Canada now appears even worse off than we are!

Canada has very stringent immigration regulations. Americans do not automatically have the points needed to qualify.

Canada is going the same route.

FYI- Americans can live in Canada and/ or the United Kingdom for 6 months on a Visitor’s visa. They can live for 3 months in the European Union as a visitor. This knowledge came in handy when I packed a suitcase in 2017, left the USA for 2 years, and just hopped around from country to country while I worked remotely.

There is no democracy in Canada. It’s become a communist country, and the citizen allowed it by repeatedly voting in a total idiot.

Canada is too integrated with the US, we’ll take them down the drain with us. You’ll need to go much farther afield.

I think I know why Rat’s balloon can’t carry two people anymore. It’s all because of inflation.

When we see advocates like this, one can never tell which “side” they are representing, since both claim to want to protect democracy.

Think warmer and more Democratic, Rat. OTOH, I can’t imagine any country allowing you to enter.

I’m thinking someone is not following Canadian politics very closely. Democracy is threatened everywhere. It is part of the nature of democracy.

USA is not a democracy (democracies almost always devolve into anarchy-Greece & Rome Empire). USA is a Constitutional Republic ( I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands…) A democracy is rule by a majority (a lynch mob wants to hang the person they caught, because they over-rule the minority [the lynchee]). A Constitutional Republic is rule by law ( the sheriff comes along and says ‘you can’t hang him without a fair trial). This is a simplistic example of the difference between a democracy and a republic.

Every time I read an article or see a news story about Canada, it makes me glad I’m in the U.S.
