IT’S TOMMY! He just makes me happy by being. And now Sophie is up and at the decorating! Let’s be FESTIVE! Those halls are not going to deck themselves now are they?
Sophie and Tommy would never skip over a meatbird holiday like Thanksgiving, but now that it’s officially over, let the leftovers consumption and Christmas decorating commence! DECK THOSE HALLS, MUTHA-FLUFFAHS♥
HA! Some people or places didn’t wait for the say after to decorate. My place of employment and fellow apartment dwellers have already decorated for the Christmas season. Some as early as Nov. 1
We’ve done a You Cut tree forever. This year, mu husband insisted we’re no longer doing a real tree. Breaks my heart a little, but I get that he’s older now (gasp!) and doesn’t want to lay on the ground anymore with a saw, so Balsam Hill had a big sale going on and he told me to pick a tree. I picked the Alpine Fur and he had a fit. “That’s a Charlie Brown tree!” I told him it was either that tree or we keep buying You Cuts. We’ll be putting up the Balsam Hill today…
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: Floofnet, on behalf of my courtiers and myself, I would like to extend my gratitude for your most excellent Feast of Gratitude.
Floofnet the Joyous: It is always my pleasure to prepare and host meals for my friends.
Queen Cat: And now we will take our leave of you. Will you be visiting us at Yuletide?
Floof: Yes. Thomios will be staying here for a few days to plan the feast. Will you be going back to the palace directly?
Puckmosis: No. We plan to go to the marketplace to celebrate the Day of Shopping.
Sophititi: I hope to find some new found objects for my sculptures.
Adobe Style: I hope to find some new fabric for my artwork.
Puck: Are you going shopping, Agnes?
Agnes-Ata: Yep. We have some cheese vendors to check out.
I unboxed the Christmas tree yesterday. We haven’t decorated it yet because we need to un-bend all the branches that were compressed when we stored it last year, so we let the tree stand for a couple of days and then decorate it. It’s a process. The tree is in our living room, in front of the windows, literally right behind my desk and chair.
Now, as many of you know, Holmes’ “Gotcha” day was December 10th last year. I did a book signing at the Center for Animal Rescue and Enrichment (CARE-STL), a no-kill animal shelter and adoption organization, on December 10th, 2022.
A percentage of all my sales went to CARE to help with their mission. While I was at CARE, I met an orange tabby kitten named Holmes. When the CARE team saw how he and I hit it off, they suggested I foster him…Obviously, their plan was for a foster fail – which Marie and I didn’t disappoint. Holmes became our second family member from CARE; Mr. Hamilton A. Cat was the first. A year ago, Holmes was a brand new family member and was kind of shy at first. Now, he and Hamilton run the place.
Now, I know what all of you are doing. You’re shaking your finger at your computer screens in an accusatory manner and saying, “Robert, what has this got to do with your putting up the tree?”
Well, let me tell you…
This morning, I got up and came downstairs to begin the day. After making coffee and letting the pooch out, I took my coffee to my desk because I wanted to get some writing done before I had to run my errands. It’s still dark out this time of year, so I turned on the desk light and started the computer when suddenly I heard a noise behind me. Spinning around in my chair, I looked at the dark tree, only to see a pair of yellow/green eyes and an orange face staring back at me, about head height.
Naturally, I asked Holmes what he thought he was doing, only to get a mischievous look in return. He then launched himself out of the tree and ran from the room, causing the tree almost to topple over—no more the shy kitten. Holmes is in complete chaos mode this season.
To paraphrase my favorite Aussie, this year, I think our Christmas Tree is doomed.
When I took in all of Sophie’s beautiful work and her philosophy, I couldn’t help thinking of Sophie IRL. Teared up a little. (ok, ok, it was a lot.) I vow to uphold her sentiment in every way possible! Hear, hear, Sophie!
I love Sophie’s sentiment and seeing her so happy. Although I rather dislike how our society moves from one holiday to another in the blink of an eye, I have accepted it. Bring on Christmas!
Happy Stay Home & Buy Nothing Day to all my fellow sensible people out there! If I didn’t have a prescription ready for pickup & need to pick it up before Sunday, I wouldn’t go out this weekend at all…
p.s. HEY, YOU KIDS GET OFF MY LAWN! & YOU DANGED WOODCHUCKS, QUIT CHUCKING MY WOOD! 8-D
Bah humbug to all those complaining about starting the Christmas decorating and celebrating too early. I’ve been listening to my Christmas playlists since November 1 and keep my car radio tuned to the station that plays all Christmas from Nov. 1 to Jan. 2.
I never admitted to having a plan, but I had one. I just never expected to need it.
Then today, some protesters decided to drop a couple of large metal scrolls from the second-floor of the mall to the first floor. Which caused a couple of loud metallic bangs. Which was followed by a horde of people running for the mall exits because of what it sounds like when you hear a bunch of shouting followed by metallic bangs.
I seem to not have very good luck with the Thanksgiving holiday weekend these past few years.

Thanksgiving is over, and it’s time to haul the tree out of the garage. Putting it up can wait. Trees are giant cat toys. Ora will likely demonstrate.

WHAM!: Last Christmas
Black Friday I went out to shop
But the deals I could find, had sold out this time
Next year, to save me from tears
I’ll follow the Early Bird Specials!
…….
Buying presents I wrapped them up and sent them
With the notes to each friend and family member
Tell me shoppers, online or brick and mortar?
Well, I know I should have planned much better!
…….
Black Friday I went out to shop
But the deals I could find, had sold out this time
Next year, to save me from tears
I’ll follow the Early Bird Specials!
…….
I’m placing my orders for Cyber Monday now
In the comfort of my own home, I’ll go online and how
Sometimes I think I’ll go the easier route,
And give everyone gift cards, and be done on that note!
