“Falls are the leading cause of injury for adults ages 65 years and older. Over 14 million, or 1 in 4 older adults report falling every year.
Falls among adults aged 65 and older are common, costly, and preventable. Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injuries among older adults.
In the United States, over 14 million, or one in four, adults ages 65 and older (older adults), report falling each year. While not all falls result in an injury, about 37% of those who fall reported an injury that required medical treatment or restricted their activity for at least one day, resulting in an estimated nine million fall injuries."
CANON: Crank landed on D-Day. He must’ve been born around 1925/26. And nothing’s funnier than a 98 year old falling onto the cold hard ground! PREDICTION: He’ll lie there all dang week.
So, Crankers, explain why a 98 year old breaking his back is funny! Because—Wait. He was always shown in his later FW years as an unspeaking, over-medicated blobfish in a wheelchair. Is this how it begins? Is there some new undiscovered award Tommy wants to pander to?!
Yeah yeah, he got hurt. Whatever. I’m more interested in what is flying out of his purse. Looks like some Ex-Lax, sardines, baked beans, and a supersized box of Q-tips.
Physical humor with senior citizens doesn’t work (at least most of the time) because it just makes you worried for them. This is apparently part of the reason why Lucille Ball’s last sitcom (“Life with Lucy”) failed actually.
Ed may or may not be in the hospital tomorrow, but guarantee he’ll be laid up at home all week spouting malaprops every day. Look for many Pmm and Jfff eyerolls.

Yep, comedy gold, right there. Leave it to Batiuk to make a serious situation even less comical.

Mel Brooks was quoted as saying, “Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall into an open sewer and die.”
Thanks to Batiuk and Davis for bringing back the comedy.

Too bad this didn’t happen in front of Montoni’s. Ed could have made some easy money suing the new owners.

And in the 4th panel that they failed to include you will see 9 accident/injury attorneys fighting to help him to file a lawsuit against the store.

This is the beginning of permanently immobilizing Ed so that the Funky Winkerbean cast can take over completely.
