The first time I kissed Gunther… The first time I dated. It was with Gunther to play miniature golf, and… The first time I had a pet was when I got a parakeet and… Come on, Luann. You have had many firsts in your 19 going on 40 years.

It’s no wonder they’re such good friends.

Just happy so see Luann again and no whining, money grubbing monetizing, all about me Betsy. Whew! So happy!!!

I believe that whenever these two girls approach age 20, something in their genes automatically recycles them back to age eleven, going on twelve. So, there may never be an adult “first time” experience for either of them.

Wee need to get Bernice a year of studying abroad. That way we can see how Luann relates to other people.

Maybe Bernice can also be Luann’s muse and inspire a topic for her. For example, “The first time I realized that my BFF since childhood could be an abusive friend” sounds very interesting. But to be honest, today Luann and Bernice seem to be getting along pretty well, at least for now. Let’s see if Bernice’s next jokes will be even more heavy. I hope Luann will always knows how to reply to Bernice and her sarcasm.

How did I not know ow they went to 2 different “types” of colleges? Who all in this strip is going to which one? We hardly ever see Luann or Bernice interacting with the other characters, are they all at a totally different college or is it bc these two girls live at home?

Ever since writing became her latest obsession (remember when Luann thought she could be a stage actor? Or how about when she was really into singing? Yeah don’t worry, she doesn’t remember either) Luann’s biggest hurdle has been her lack of creativity. She has been unable to simply make up a story wholesale: every story had to be more-or less a straight retelling of an event in her (or someone she knows) life. And now when the time comes where the assignment is tailor-made for someone like that, where it’s not asking for anything at all other than “tell us about the first time you did something” and she still can’t think of anything?!? It’s like Greg and Karen Evans just moved the goalposts on how incompetent Luann really is. This sort of assignment should’ve been a walk in the park for her, and now she can’t even handle this low bar.

C’mon G&K, throw the poor girl a bone once in a while. Even Charlie Brown had his moments of earned victory.

Good riposte, Luann. For the life of me, I don’t know why you put up with your “best friend” who should be called “best fiend”!

Luann could use more supportive friends when it comes to encouraging her writing. Luann’s already got a creativity problem, she doesn’t need to be mocked into not trying.

Some times they are funny…..oops never happens!

Nice to see Luann getting in her chops in with Bernice in a friendly joking manner instead of the previous snarky remarks that Bernice has been so famous for. A little give and take is refreshing.

Good for Luann for sniping back at Bernice. That rarely happens.

And Luann could write about the first time she spent Christmas snowbound in a remote cabin. And came home to a lot of pet “accidents” because her so-called BFF was too stupid to let the poor animal outside.

A writing assignment shouldn’t be an issue to Luann, she writes pretty fine! She just needs to get Bernice out of the room.

At this point we’ve got to assume they want us to hate Bernice.

Why is it these two are friends? They don’t seem to support each other much.

When you write fiction, you can create fascinating new worlds your reader has never experienced. And then there’s these two.

Please, Greg and Karen, DON’T let this degenerate into a Bernice-Gives-Psychiatric-Advice-She-Isn’t-Qualified-To-Dispense plot!
