Fine, call Animal Control. They will have seen the missing cat posters and will check Sophie for a chip. If they can catch Gutter, they will release him back into the wildlands. But I have a feeling the rest of the C-Team will come to the rescue!
I tried to send this reply to Elhorr’s great Marlowe quote yesterday, but it disintegrated just as I attempted to post it. (“My Doom hath come upon me,” I cried, shedding onion-peeling tears like the fabled Lady of Shallots.).
Doesn’t quite fit with today’s action, but here’s an effort at its reconstruction:
“Come live with Tom, but be my love, And I will through the trash heaps move. For alleys, troves, and landfilled fields, A bounty of fine garbage yields.
And you will open up a box, That holds your chains, with opened locks. Each day, your Knight will bring you all, The art-junk that to me befalls.
That you may sculpt with clawless toeses, Abstract or realistic poses, To fill your bowers from thoughts fertile: (…Is that an owl, boring a turtle?
Two clowns, a savant and vainglorious fool, Who from cracked beak is dripping drool, From whom our tiny friends once fled, But now is old, and naught to dread…)
I’ll bring thee stuff for fancy duds, To vanquish Tusslemania studs. Yes, I will all the trash heaps move, That my devotion I may prove.
Though in the wild you can’t subside, Yet I would wish you my soul’s bride. Your Woman and dear friend await; Yet, wilt thou be my steady date?
The Robber Mice and Birds will sing, Each morn, as to my Love I’ll bring, New junk to please my Turtledove. Please live with Tom, but be my love.”
Sophie may have delicate paws, but she has teeth! I see a leg CHOMP in That Woman’s near future. In other news, I’m still without power, 5th day now since Hurricane Beryl, and it’s really really HOT in coastal Texas. Fortunately Hubby charged my phone with a battery thingie.
Panel two is the best. Following on from yesterday’s DNF (Did Not Finish) I really want to recommend Sergei Lukyanenko’s The Night Watch and Day Watch series. I loved them and finished them to the point of staying up to the small hours reading.
I had to do a double take with that last panel this morning. I’m so tired, I read Animal Control and saw that loop around Gutter’s neck and thought Tidy Woman had an animal control stick in her hand, the kind with the releasable loop that they use to subdue wild animals. When I took a better look, I saw the end of the broom. I need more coffee…
Also, I don’t know if anyone reads Spirit of the Staircase, but Matt and Mumford are watching Brian’s cat, Divine, while Brian is on vacation. Divine doesn’t like anyone but Brian. This morning’s strip is funny…
Oh, I do hope there’s a Tenth Circle of Hell, and if there isn’t, they need to build one for the Tidy Lady. It should look exactly like the play pen Sophie’s trapped in, with no water, food, or litter box. And there ought to be a lot of menacing brooms, too!
If my clowder didn’t have such gentle souls in it, I’d sic’em on the Tidy Woman. Since they are gentle cats, I’ll have to bite her myself. How dare she take a broom to our Gutter!
Wait, on one hand, I think to myself: is this the kind of woman who would have any idea where the maid keeps the cleaning supplies? Then I think: Yes, yes she is, because she would want to make sure to inspect them so they were clean too.
I now have the legendary Warren Zevon song, Send Lawyers, Guns and Money, playing on a loop in my head. But i’m no filker. I wish I was. Mad props to anyone who can do it justice!
oh oh busted. On a good news/ bad news front some moron dropped of a very pregnat cat and abandon her I found her last night desprately trying t get into my house I took her in made a bed for her woke this morning to 6 kittens so yeah now i need to find a forever home for her and her kittens.
Poor Gutter! I hope he and Sophie quickly make an escape, though the fun will be in seeing how they, the mice and Chitter and Chatter do it.
I would also like to see Sophie come to the rescue of her rescuer. She could arch her back and give a mighty hiss to demonstrate her displeasure at being snatched from her yard and at the broom-swatting of a noble racoon. It would be very empowering for her!
I had such an inferior screen the last couple of days, turning all blurry. It is still inferior today, but this time, it seems to be covered by a red haze. How DARE she take a broom to Gutter! These are not the twists and turns I was looking for! (Of course, they never are…Georgia is too creative for that!) :-)
Cry HAVOC! and let slip, THE MICE, OPOSSUMS, MOLES, and even CRICKETS OF WAR!!!
(Yes, crickets of war—several thousand of them, all stridulating somewhere in the much too tidy house … where they cannot be found …) Looked for, they cannot be seen. Felt for, they cannot be touched. Listened for, they are somewhere else …
Yes, I speak from experience. My parents hated cats, so there was no Lupin to save us. I am so happy to be such a disappointment to them!
I read many of these comments to but not all. Did anyone else notice how quickly that broom appeared in the woman’s hand? She seemed kinda feeble at first and now not so much. Makes her seem even more evil.

Paul McCartney and Wings: Band on the Run
Trapped inside this mesh cage
Never seeing my friends
Feeling so forgotten
Where are all of you?
Where are all of you?
…….
Will I ever get out of here?
My only friend is my squeaky star?
I don’t know where I am
Is anyone out there?
Will I ever get out of here?
Will I ever get out of here?
…….
Well the fireworks exploded with a mighty crash
And the screen was torn in shreds
And a friend from the wilds said he came to help
There is nothing left to dread!
Cat on the run!
Cat on the run!
And Gutter’s here, and it’s very clear
The mice aren’t far away
From the cat on the run! Cat on the run!
…….
Well the Tidy woman came into the room calling animal control!
She was after Gutter with her stupid broom when we’re so close to our goal!
Cat on the run! Cat on the run!
And Gutter’s here, and it’s very clear
The mice aren’t far away
From the cat on the run! Cat on the run!
…….
Well it won’t be long now til the Robber Mice
Come right in to join the fray!
There will be glitter in the tidy room
And Sophie will get away!
And the gang is here
It’s very clear
It will all be well one day
For the cat on the run! Cat on the run!

Kitten Ahmed: I will hug him, and squeeze him, and call him George-Amun.
Kitten Cleo: Do you have one in pink?
Soph: I know someone who does. Guess who!
Enter Pink Lupinium
Pink Lupinium: Hello kittens! Who wants a pink starfish?
Cleo: Me! Me!
Pink Lupinium: Who feels well enough to dance?
Several Kittens: Me! Me!
Pink Lupinium: Who feel well enough to march?
Kittens: Me! Me!
Pink Lupinium: Then I have someone I want you to meet! Iggy?
Iggy: Alright, kittens let’s line up to go to the Catfeteria. Hup, two, three, four!
