At the Auditorium of the Happy Healthy Hospital Pyramid
Sophititi: Welcome, Cats and Sentient Friends to the First Annual Wear the Donut Fashion Show. It gives me great pleasure to introduce that irrepressible cat, Pink Lupinium. Let’s all give him a round of applause.
Pink Lupinium: Thank you, Soph. As you all know, Ora Zed and I have helped the kittens on the mend with creating edible fashion. We would like to show you their most delectable creations. Ora?
Ora Z: Thank you, Pink Loopy. First up, Kitten Amon in his chocolate and silver glitter iced circlet. It is a perfect statement as both evening wear and a before bedtime snack.
Sophititi: Next up we have Cleo, in her striped cruller. Note the beautiful iridescent glitter stripes.
Iggy: Now we have kitten Ged in a fluffy iced confection combined with a nautical theme. Suitable for both dancing and sailing. Inspired by you-know-who.
Sometime Later
Soph: That was a lovely fashion show. Let this be our motto from here on out, “Wear the Donut.”
All: Hear! Hear!
Sidewalk: Queen Mags sends her regards from the land of Afar! She would like to invite you to create a fashion show fundraiser for the Afar Branch of the Nile Library and Café.
Soph: I would be honored. And I would like to visit again with Beaver Lee Cleary to find out more about what happened to your descendant Gutter and mine, Sophie. Wait, do you hear a commotion in the auditorium?
Most peeps here probably don’t care for Aaron Lewis (a.k.a. Staind), but I couldn’t help but think of one of my favourite songs of his, “Save Me” when thinking of Sophie and Gutter saving each other: youtu.Be/_fpGMkO6x7k
Oh, I suddenly have a vision of the distraction: Sophie in her alter ego as the Nameless Dread (wait, was that it?), going full berserk on the People and ending up in the Feral Cat Room at Animal Control…
A BCN unrelated question, but is anyone else getting notifications for old comment replies and likes? I regularly get notified of likes and replies that happened years ago.
OK Sophie, you can do this…no quiet yodeling, it’s time for full throated screaming, howling, and hissing. Roll around frantically, dash back and forth and carom off the sides of that crate. Make them think you are having seizures. That should get the Tidy People focused on you as they will be distressed and feeling helpless and will focus the animal control on you as well. Then you can move on to breathless and teary sobs that would melt the coldest heart and give animal control plenty of time to recognize you as the lost cat they have seen alerts for. Meanwhile the mice will rescue Gutter.
That was some great hostage talking, Natasha! Calm, explanatory, reassuring, and you got a verbal confirmation that Sophie was with the new program. Natasha is good at this.
What is “Distraction” but “Theater” in its finest form? Sophie is so creative, so imaginative, so outside-the-box… This is gonna be good! (Can we get a popcorn wagon in here? And maybe a beverage bar?)
Now I am imagining the mice getting Gutter out while Sophie is distracting the people and then them all escaping together and then when animal control get there the woman telling them that the raccoon escaped with the help of mice and they escaped taking her cat with them and the animal control just shaking their head and wondering about her sanity.
…J gets her cast off & goes home TODAY. HUZZAH!!! She’ll be wearing the boot for a while & will go home in the wheelchair, but she’s started transitioning to a walker. Progress is progressing!
I grew up hating opera because the high soprano notes were physically painful to my ears. That’s what Sophie needs to do now—aspect whatever soprano holds the record for highest sustained note.
Hello everyone!! If you’re in Northern CA, you can hear me today at 12:30 pm Pacific time on KCSM FM 91.1 in San Mateo! They’ve invited me on for an interview about the comic! I believe they’re also available in the radio app Tune-In, for folks outside of CA, but I’m not certain. It’s worth a search, if you’re good at tracking down radio stations in this wild modern world! I hope you’ll tune in!
I think a great way to distract them would be for Sophie to just get out of her cage (since there’s a slash in it) and running AWAY from the pantry so they run after her. That will give Natasha time to pick the lock, get Gutter out of the pantry and out of the house.

Cats, in general, are very good at causing distractions. I’m not sure that Sophie is.
However, The Existential Dread . . . would probably be awesome at creating a distraction.
