It takes a while for kids to understand that they don’t get on the slide until they see the last kid on the slide exit the slide. I have seen many kids get hurt from sliding collisions. This is one of the many things parents have to watch out for at a park with a playground. If it’s a tall, fast slide; the collisions can be pretty brutal.
Well this is Good! No one was intentionally trying to hurt anyone and it looks like Toni and Brad are a “natural” when it comes to dealing with conflict (among kids)… can’t say the same for the other lady….sadly.
I think she should say “Not everyone is A-OK”. Clearly some people are A-OK. “Everyone is not A-OK” means that everyone is included in the group of people who are not A-OK.
One day, when I was in the first grade, I was playing on the swings at school when I swung back and kicked a girl in the face. When the coach confronted me, I said it was an accident, but the coach told me that I did it on purpose. Since this was back in the fall of ‘76, I can’t remember whether I did do it on purpose. No matter—the coach definitely didn’t think it was “A-OK.” He made me stand against the tree for the rest of recess.
And that was on the day we had our school pictures taken.
Cute little chubby girl with a cute little piggy nose. A future friend for Shannon? Like an early Luann and Bernice? And, remind grandma that she is going to be late for her bowling league.
Shan “bumped into her” but the kid is not hurt and yet there’s still an “issue?”
O-Kay.
Brad and Toni? It seems likely that “Witch Hazel” here is about to make a Federal case out of this. So:
1) Let one of you do the talking while the other whips out their phone and starts recording.
2) It’s quite possible that “Hazel,” who thinks that her “precious angel” is better than everyone’s kid, is going to DEMAND an apology. And that you should stop videoing her.
3) Remind “Hazel” that you’re in a public place, so you can video all you darn well please, thanks to that pesky 1st amendment. Also, that Shannon said it was an accident. But if an “apology” will get the lady and her kid to “stepping,” then either Brad or Toni should offer it.
4) If “Hazel” demands that Shannon apologize, then just politely tell her NO, and that she’s gotten all the “apology” she’s going to get this month. Also inform the “lady” that if she and her kid don’t get out of your collective faces in the next 10 seconds then it’s gonna be “ON, like Donkey Kong!”
Gee-Bus, I don’t believe it. I’m actually defending Shannon.
DARN You, Karen Evans.
Next thing you know, you’ll have Me (GAG) “rooting” for Les. ;-)
Unfortunately, making a fuss over a non-issue seems to be becoming more normal in this point in time of our history. My biggest concern here isn’t that the little girl was hurt when she was bumped, but observing the reaction her mom(?) and learning this is how one should respond to such incidents.
This guardian is absolutely determined to make BnT and the little girl’s compromise (smile on the little girl’s face) into a fight, over which the kids will get caught up.
I’m glad it was just an accident and Shannon didn’t purposely hit a child who is also probably younger than her, but the woman wants to continue the quarrel. As much as I think she’s unreasonable and I don’t like that she called Shannon a brat for an accident, it’s true that Toni and Brad should have kept an eye on her while she was playing. Let’s hope they remember that in the future.
Darn it, even I’m on Shannon’s side this time. Also, enough already with calling difficult people Karen. There are many lovely people with the name who did nothing to deserve that label. Use your imagination and find an adjective.
Let The Count guess… time to Lawyer Up? Pleeaassse Please Please Please Ann❤️Eiffel come home? This arc and whole comic is on life support and Dr Boring’s hand is on the plug.
Diplomacy is need here—-and perhaps a bit of charm on Brad’s part. Usually once someone like this is heard and has their concerns addressed she will calm down and everything will be resolved. Above all, don’t escalate the situation.
1) what the heck effect do you expect by Brad “flashing” his Fireman Badge? 2) this woman could easily be Shannon in another 20 years. 3) I agree…accidents happen on the playground.
Uh-oh, looks like the people were right who said we have an Obnoxious Entitled Housewife here. Still, it wouldn’t have hurt Shannon to offer an apology to the other girl.
If anyone should apologise it would be Brad and Toni for not supervising, I think the other woman needs to as well. A gentle word of caution goes a long way. Pay attention grandma.
Shannon needs to realize that the reason she didn’t see her was because she wasn’t looking, and she wasn’t looking because she was in her own little world. Hasn’t Shannon gone to the playground before? I’m sure she has been told about looking to make sure it’s clear on the slide.
Not sure what the other lady expects to have happen, If she demands that Shannon apologize, she might have a long wait on her hands. Maybe “sorry for not looking” would be a good way to put it? Maybe she needs a police officer to write her a ticket for improper lookout LOL!
I have thought for a long time that the antidote to someone using the name Karen insultingly is to simply show them a recording of the Carpenters. Would they really want to insult a woman with such a voice?
Brad should comfort Shannon and let Toni deal with the aggrieved adult female. Woman to woman. He says a harsh word to her and who ever is filming this will wail “abuse”. If Toni has to actually smack some sense into her Toni is going to have at least a 60% of the people supporting her.
WEEE—-UHHHH, WEEE—-UHHHHH KAREN ALERT!!! Now comes a real lesson in parenting skills, or challenge? How to handle such a harridan in front of the children, particularly Shannon.
Lady, you don’t want to mess with Toni. I am not kidding. … In fact, Brad may also have a few choice words for you because he is becoming a better person than we all expected.
An interesting monologue directed toward the Obnoxious Entitled Housewife, from Rebecca Larsen on TikTok:
This is what I find so tragic about these young, pretty conservative women. You’re such a Gaslighted demographic, because one of the pillars of the ideology you’ve bought into is that some people are just inherently superior, and inferior people deserve to be exploited. And sure, you know that women are technically property, but you? You don’t have to worry about that. Because you are hot property. Exceptions will be made for you. So you’re more than willing to play this needlessly cruel game, because you’ve been assured that you’ll win. And soon, the young winning man of your dreams will look at you and say, “Yes. That is what I’m supposed to want. And acquiring her will make me look like a superior man.” And on your way to your superior life together you will become his obedient, righteous, lonely domestic servant. Congratulations.
Until one day, you get a scary mammogram. And you discover that he never signed up to be a nursemaid. And unlike you, the young 24-year-old bleached blonde at the office understands that he’s the most important person in any room. And she’ll have no qualms about poaching your mate, because he’s her ticket to a superior life. And at that moment, when the handle has snapped off the basket that held all your eggs, you might just realize that you were flattered into giving your entire life away in service of a man who only ever saw you as a commodity, because I assure you, that is how these men see you. And being “hot property” won’t have protected you from a life of being used up and discarded. (1/2)
I think a misdirection play will not only disarm the KarMom but be a good lesson for both kids (I doubt KarMom) but what I really want to see how this fits into Brad and Toni actually deciding to start a family. Luann time will tell.

The woman needs to chill out. She obviously wants to cause a scene.

So how badly will this escalate? Should Brad flash his Fireman badge? ;)

Parents often hurt more than their kids. Or they just over-react.
In Japan, people call them “Monster Parents”. What’s the term in other places? I used to just call them “Bad Parents” before a name was coined.
