IS Katie is sound asleep beside my computer desk…since I am still recovering (!) from all the work I did in and outside the house on Saturday, I think I’ll accompany her upstairs. Also, have a good book about who takes care of caregivers who take care of elderly persons who suffer from dementia. It is based on what was said during a year by the caregivers in a local caregiver support group which mets in a hospital somewhere on the east coast… Sort of like Studs Terkel’s (and others) books. Sooooooooo, "nite all! ;)-————————————————————————-“Ah! What avails the classic bent And what the cultured word, Against the undoctored incident That actually occurred?” (Rudyard Kipling, 1865-1936)

Few people succeed at the first try in business… keep it up, TJ. You may become the next Col. Sanders or Ray Kroc… if at first… etc.

Yeah, basically! – I hear too that there’s some counties/cities that do it on top of/in spite of/ in lieu of whatever the state does/doesn’t charge….

Recently, I was wondering about TJ— It’s a surprise that he is still in business, although it looks like things are changing.

And it reminds me too of the “yard sale rule” we have here….except for the casual yard sales, anyone else who sells “regularly/frequently” are supposed to do it. And in some cases (including out of state purchases) they expect the consumer to do it (through the “use tax”, but for us, it’s really the sales tax with another name). – There’s a few year round flea markets I enjoy, and I wonder if there are some there who probably… “don’t know”…. that they are supposed to collect it…

It’s about time to write TJ out of the strip. His departure could be explained as a desire to start a new life in a different town. When he leaves, it will be convenient for Toni to move in, whether before or after marriage.

Sigh. I had allowed myself to hope TJ had found his calling and grown up. I pretended not to have realized how mistaken I was when he tried to minimum wage Quill into doing the whole job.
JayBluE over 10 years ago
My respect and appreciation! I always appreciate someone who chooses the culinary arts! – I think in this case, TJ is only jaded when it comes to the paperwork part. I don’t think he’s at all tired of the cooking part. – He has stated as much before, when he hired ‘Quill!’ …it’s the “pushing paper” that he’s really tired of….

I read this comics page occasionally, and one of the things I’ve noticed are the level and intensity of the comments. You folks know this is a comic strip, right? I mean these characters are not real. They live only in the mind of the strip creator. You understand that, right? Commenting (as one of the “PRO” members does,to the tune of 15,579 comments over a 16 month period, which roughly equates to 31 comments a day) on the make believe lives of these characters begs the question: Do you have a real life of your own? Does your daily life consist of sitting at a keyboard and offering opinions on who every character is and what they may or may not be doing/feeling/meaning?And if it does, how very sad. Do something productive. Volunteer at a food bank or a hospital or a school.Campaign against domestic violence or child abuse or work for MADD. Coach a little league team. Hell, be a greeter at Wal-Mart for that matter. If you wake in the morning and the best part of your day is commenting on what Luann and her cast of imaginary characters are doing/wearing/thinking, what an exciting life you must lead.

When Brad first started first-aid classes for becoming a firefighter (where he met Toni), TJ accompanied him, but didn’t take it seriously (didn’t follow through with the next class like Brad did). Don’t think TJ is cut out to be a firefighter, doesn’t take life seriously, but a serious career change is in the works.

So begins a whacky adventure, where Brad and TJ try swapping jobs for a week…. leading to Brad poisoning most of the town with salmonella- and e. coli-infested food, while TJ starts a fire that destroys 90% of the city’s residential district.
ACTIVIST1234 over 10 years ago
I was kind of hoping this week would be either the arc of Brad & Toni’s wedding or a continuation of Gunther & Rosa in Peru. There are SO many possibilities in the latter, I can’t imagine that Team Evans won’t use them.

I’ve been wondering about this: In what town do the firefighters wear dress uniforms, with necktie, on everyday duty? I know they don’t wear ties while they fight fires.

For those who have not see the movie ‘Chef’, it’s worth seeing. And it’s not about how great it is to cook food on a truck. It’s about trying to rehabilitate your career after it collapses, even though you’re good at what you do….

TJ, this is why we all need vision. Details of everyday life are always bringing us down, and that vision of success (however you define it) lifts us back up and propels us on.

That’s why he needs to hire an accountant/bookkeeper (not to be confused with a “bookie”…!).^And trust someone else with his green? I mean the other one… – When Quill! Was still working for him, was when he said he was tired of certain aspects of the business, I had thought that he was gone, then! Go fig!
JayBluE over 10 years ago
Not to mention that there’s 24 hour news channels, all of those political talking head shows (yeeech!) and plenty other things out there… I’m sure that some of the people railing against such things are conveniently “leaving out” the fact that they too have something that they enjoy that could also be “conveniently” characterized in that way….. – Plus some of those people should know that when you point a finger at someone else(index finger) , there are always three pointing back at you (mid finger, ring finger, pinky)!….

TJ is is a cook. He should have spent his money on going to culinary school to become a chef or sous chef and work in restaurants instead of buying the food truck. That would be a better investment towards his career.

Sales taxes are regressive. They hit the poor the most.Place a tax on wealth. Tax million dollar incomes at 90%.-Recently I read in the LA Times that when the top tax rate is higher there are more jobs, prosperity, etc. Now I assumed that was when profits were reshuffled back into the business (read: the economy). These days, it sounds like the stockholders are siphoning off a bigger share of the profits than before,, so I wonder if that is still true._Also, even if the top rate is higher, that’s not the amount one pays on ALL their earnings. One chunk is taxed at 20%, the next at 22%, and so forth. All the way to the top rate .
Argy.Bargy2 over 10 years ago
@howtheduck-For some reason, half the time when I try to use the ‘reply’ function, I get a non-functional box that doesn’t allow any typing.-Jon Favreau wrote, co-produced, directed and acted as ‘Chef’ in the movie. He started out in indies, and then did some big films, but decided to go back to his origins for this. He’s been quoted as saying he was trying to get a chef character like this into other movies and finally decided to do it this way.-Favreau is much more sophisticated about the internet than the character he played, but he wanted, so he says, to show how a person could get out of touch with parts of his life and his original passions (cooking and his family), and get jolted back into finding his heart again. -So he had Chef basically ‘act out’ against a critic who wasn’t really telling him anything that he didn’t already know, that he’d ‘lost his mojo’ in favor of staying safe in a job micromanaged by someone who was more interested in sameness than in progress.-The fun that the Chef had on the truck was about getting back to being a Dad as well as a Chef, and in the end, he ended up ‘redeemed’. The food truck was like a life raft, in a way. -Could that ever happen for TJ? Probably not…

“… By the way I wasn’t insulting you, I was just pointing out that Ed was attacking you in particular, he listed a comments number that matched up with yours ….” (Bold done by me for emphasis)^Sorry I couldn’t respond earlier…. I was out seeing about a bridge. Or was I playing it? Hard to remember, sometimes… – Okay, then… I can understand why you would happen to mention my name, as if other people would be happening to wonder “what/where/who/why/how” … that way, just one person could be identified, in case anyone was happening to wonder about who was being “identified”.. as if they’d go about their day wondering… Who am I to argue with such a great service?….

And that’s the thing. Quill was looking for a temp part time gig, and TJ was overwhelmed. Now no more Quill! And it’s almost back to square one with TJ. Seems TJ just needs the right person to come along to help him. One that will fit in with what he needs/expects, The right talent can help one like boosters on a rocket. – Now, finding that talent? Well…..
JayBluE over 10 years ago
And perhaps if there’s a dish that is his “specialty” and it’s that good, hopefully the right person will come along to be able to either show him where/who will be able to make something of that (to the mutual benefit of everyone involved), or will be that person willing to “invest” in TJ’’s talents or dishes….
