Is Elvis crying? Or is he going back to trying to ignore the existence of ghosts now that Puck is safe and sound.
Oh, and we have ghosts affecting physical objects again. Thrice here as Freddie unlocks the evil steamer, it appears that after the click the steamer lid is at an angle suggesting Freddie is opening the trunk, and then she hold’s Puck in her arms. Who was it that suggested in a reply to one of my posts about ghosts being able to affect physical objects that maybe it had to do with what they could lift when alive? Think you were right.
So Freddie speaks Mouse, or Agatha is a very good mime to convey “Pucky’s in the steamer trunk!”
And it looks like all the cats can see Freddie (Lupin and Figaro saw her in 2015). I wonder what the requirements to see the not quite live residents are?
Oh, forgot in my last post. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERBODY!!!! Wish I both remembered the HTML coding for color and knew if that’s one of the HTML codes that works here, would be nice to have the letter in orange and black.
Oh Georgia, you’ve gone and done it again! You created another heartwarming Halloween story! I’m crying now just like how I cried at the ending of the other Halloween story!
NO Pucky, it is not your time! Oh! All the feels in this one! Now, I’m wondering if Freddie left the door to the dumb waiter opened by accident.. we did see her in the kitchen at the beginning of this. Hmmmm….
I think that Elvis might be crying in relief! Or maybe, just like me, he’s gotten a little something in his eye. Attics can be dusty you know! I’m just (sniff)..so…PROUD and HAPPY!!! (ssnniFF). Way to go team with a special call out to the ever resourceful Agatha! Puck was so brave! Elvis and Tabitha worked together! Pucky is ok!
Heck…sniff…where did all this dust come from? I’ll take a break till I can see clearly again…
“We’d love to have you stay…” reminds me of a story.
I boarded with a widow a few decades ago. One day she said that she had a dream about her husband. He was sitting on the back of a UPS truck. After a brief conversation he invited her to join him. “No thank you,” was her reply. Oh, Puck, I am glad it was not your time, either.
Meanwhile, Megan was giving Tre-C more advanced lessons in Reading Comprehension, and took some time to throw in a few key phrases in Dog (particularly their slang). It all, Megan felt, would help “round” Tre-C out. And oh, how the tabby loved to read. The classics, Sci-Fi, even the occasional Harlequin Romance (“Go easy on those…” Megan would jokingly caution her). And the day to day work went on.
“So you see how the colors appear on the screen, Kitten? You can select different cities and see what the “climate” is in real time. And you know I’m not talking about the weather, right?” “Yeah… kinda figured. But what causes the color changes?” “I can’t explain how the software works, it was a gift, to my specs, from someone I did a favor for. To simplify, it shows the ratio of good vs bad in a certain area. I’ll give you an example- use the scroll and move to a view of DC. What do you see?” Tre-C looked a the map; the question answered itself. “Red. A whole lot of red.” “Exactly! That graphic shows that there is more bad going on in that area than good. In this case, a lot more.” Megan sighed, and for the first time Tre-C thought she looked tired. But Megan immediately perked up, “Now look here.” “British Colums in Canada, and it’s kind of yellowish green. Does that mean there’s more good than bad that’s happening there?” “You’re catching on quickly, Kitten. But there is so much more to what I… we do. Let’s take a break, though. We can pick up something at the “Litter”. Unfortunately the Cat News Network isn’t on the air now- must be some technical issue. You know, ghosts in the machine, or some such…”
Okay, sitting at my desk, grinning like an idiot. People walking by and wondering what I am looking at. Excellent Halloween Special Georgia. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!
I think Freddie has a special connection to the family and cats in the Big Pink House because of what they did in the last Halloween special. Putting Tillie with Freddie forever…Adios Gato Gato…Bye bye Mow Mow!
Georgia set this up so beautifully a week ago when we saw that Freddie could open the Cookie Bunny and swipe a cookie. We got the first clue at the beginning of the month, when we first saw the Cookie Bunny and heard its rattle-rattle. Well done!
Good morning and Happy Hallowe’en, orbsters and orbabies! I am imagining Elvis’ “wait” in a soft whisper, and then he and Tabitha holding their breath while they wait for Freddie to open her trunk, and then Elvis crying tears of joy in the last panel because his dear friend is safe. And where, in blithering blue blazes, are Lupin and Sir Figaro Newton????!!!!!!
I love Tabitha’s approach; when in doubt, just keep stabbing! Hahaha! Yay! Freddie to the rescue! It makes sense, if she can open a cookie jar she can open a trunk lid. Puck looks so content in the last panel when she is holding him.
Way to go, Freddie! Her love for felines saves yet another kitty – even from beyond the grave! Georgia, this is an EXCELLENT Halloween story, kudos and hats off to you!
I thought about sharing my own personal “it’s not your time” story, and maybe I will someday, but this strip also reminded me of this song. It should be criminal that this song – and, come to that, this artist – didn’t make it past country radio’s gatekeepers:
Just celebrated Samhain with a gift for myself of a BCN mug from Zazzle. I got the “Joys of Reading” mug in frosted glass. Looking forward to many cups of morning tea while catching up with BCN.
Thank you Georgia….Thank you for the perfect happy ending on this Halloween which would have been my Mom’s 105 birthday…..We lost two kitties this year…my beautiful little Ester at 22 and sweet Gracie way too soon at 15….your story line has been a wonderful diversion and has really touched home….Again..Thanks !……….k
Also, today seems like the day to mention that my much-loved and much-missed Smoke, who passed away a few years ago, came to visit many times after her death. I used to feel her hop onto the bed and curl up right where she slept every night, against my stomach (our current beasties, Finn and Molly, were not allowed in our bedroom at night at the time, because they didn’t let us sleep). And a few times I saw a little black cat perched on the windowsill waiting for me when I was coming home from work. We’ve moved a few times since then, and she doesn’t visit anymore. I hope it’s because she’s satisfied that the kitties we have now are taking good care of us, and not that she can’t find us since we moved away. I hate to think of her looking for us at our old apartment and wondering where we went.
I don’t typically comment on the strip, but the look on Pucky’s face in the last panel is making me cry. He looks so happy to see Freddie, it’s like she’s his person, too.
Ms. Dunn, I absolutely LOVE your comic strip! I just started reading it in the last 2 weeks & it is wonderful, in fact today’s brought tears to my eyes. Thank you so much!

And though we would love to have you stay,
But it’s not your time today,
Though you know that we all love you,
And if any trouble should arise,
From both sides of the skies
We’re all coming to the rescue
Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on “we,”
That’s what friends are for
For good times and for bad times
We’ll be on your side forevermore,
‘Cause Pucky, that’s what friends are for
Puck: Oh you came and rescued me,
Friends I only now can see
I don’t know how I can thank you
And now, for the times when we’re apart,
I will always know I have,
Friends on both sides of the rainbow,
I’ll keep smiling, keep shining,
You know you can always count more (that’s for sure)
That’s what friends are for.
For good times, and for bad times
I am on your side forevermore,
‘Cause that’s what friends are for,
That’s what friends are for.
