Pucky’s Kitten Service Announcement – Alright all you kittens out there, pay attention and listen to the wisdom of your elders. You already know about “cute poses” and chasing your tail to bring happiness to the world. Playing “pawsies” under the door or going into a “nip” frenzy works, too. But don’t forget the little gestures in life that spread joy to those around you.
OT: some of you may recall a year ago this day, I posted being run over by a car? Update, not only is today my birthday, yes I was run over the night before my birthday. But 2 days ago, the court for the juvenile punk has dropped all charges, made him write an apology and he must make a charitable “donation” in my name…..
All week I’ve had no idea what’s going on, and today’s strip doesn’t help. Is anyone willing to explain? (We don’t have cats, small children, or a television; I don’t know if any of those would provide the clue.)
For those looking for background on Thimblefist, s/he was first introduced in the strip of October 22, 2019, as part of the story arc where Goldie was trying to find out what happened to her People. Our intrepid crew had gone into the Wild Lands beyond the wall in the backyard, and met Thimblefist and partner Homestyle. BCN is so rich and textured and SO fun that if you haven’t read it from the beginning, you’re missing a lot of laughs, a lot of feels, and a lot of Georgia’s gorgeous, intricate illustrations. Go read it! Go on! You’ll be glad you did.
For all the newbies, welcome! And if you’re a little lost, this arc refers back to last October where Goldie and the wildland creatures were introduced. However, if you have the time I recommend clicking the the double arrows on the left. It will take you first to 2010 and then 2014 where this really starts. You will be amazed how much the artwork has changed over the years! Plus this is a very fun way to catch up on everybody. There’s also the BCN website where if you click on Past Reports you can find some of the older ones grouped by category. I also recommend reading the reporter’s real histories and also Georgia’s blog with some fascinating essays. Happy reading!
Today is Sunglasses Day. While I think sunglasses are a marvelous idea, especially flip-ups and clip-ons. Like any idea, they can be overdone—and for the worst possible reasons. I’m not on my usual diatribe about form following function—these are something that goes on your face, so assuming they do the job of protecting the only eyes you will ever have, it’s quite understandable that you want them to look good on you, or at least not look bad.
As most of us have learned from the pandemic by now, a lot of human communication comes from the eyes and the area around them. So someone wearing sunglasses when and where they aren’t needed is saying something unpleasant: anything from “Oh Cat am I hung over!” or “The doc just dilated my eyes,” to “I don’t give a rat’s patootie about you,” to “I’m hostile and trying to intimidate you.” I don’t trust anyone I meet and interact with whose eyes I can’t see unless there is a good reason for it. What are they trying to hide? Why? Even in bright sun, if I’m talking to someone, at least initially I’ll flip up the shades for a minute, just so they can get a glimpse of my eyes. Anything else is discourteous, ill-mannered, ill-bred, inconsiderate, impolite, rude, surly, sullen, unmannerly, uncivil, unchivalrous, and uncharitable. It is not “cool.” It is churlish. (What a marvelous, tasty word that is.)
Besides, if you wear sunglasses in low light conditions, you are more likely to blunder into things, or, worst of all, blunder into the cat, who is doing his or her best to teach you the error of your ways. That never ends well.
Something I’ve wondered about: The Eskimo peoples invented a very clever device to protect their eyes from sun-blindness induced by snow glare. I wonder why other low-technology societies dwelling in desert conditions didn’t do the same thing, or something similar.

Considering we hadn’t seen them, we should have guessed. Thimblefist, if your fist can drop off, you might want to find some way to make a handle.

The Moody Blues: The Story in Your Eyes
We’ve been going on a journey,
And we know that things aren’t always quite the same
For the way we go is different from
The way we came.
…….
And the trip we take together
Is the music to the story of the friends,
The beginning of the story we hope
Will never end!
…….
Listen to the joy that surrounds us
Washing away all our fears,
We know we can get through anything,
Though we know we will shed so many tears!
…….
Sometimes we’re frightened for the future
And the troubles that we face may seem so vast
But we know that love will still prevail,
And joy will last!
…….
Listen to the joy that surrounds us
Washing away all our fears,
We know we can get through anything,
Though we know we will shed so many tears!
…….
When the story arc is over
And it’s certain that another will begin
We can all remember that the love
Will always win!

Adobe Style: I see you’ve completed your project, Iron Fist.
Iron Glove: Yep all ready for next week.
Adobe Style: I think the decorations add just the right je ne sais quoi.
Iron Glove: Yes, thanks to Tabith-Isis and her red dots.
Enter Baba-Stet
Baba-Stet: Looks good, Iron Fist, just as I predicted.
Iron Glove: Yes, you said there would be wedding bells for Avenger and Emma. And here they are.
Adobe: It seems you’ve traveled a long way to come here to Afar. To what do we owe the honor?
Baba: Sometimes it’s just for the journey itself.
