Tangentially, Mars is very close to the Earth at this time. It’s appearing early at night in the east and is very bright. Check it out if you get a chance.

Don’t the bars in the last panel look wide enough apart for a cat to slip through easily?

How many panels does it take for two to fall in love?

I love background stories! Especially how two met and rescued each other! :)

“O mor siriol gwena seren Ar hyd y nos, I oleuo’i chwaer ddaearen Ar hyd y nos,”

Don’t know why that popped into my head. No connection with anything here, I’m sure.

For the benefit of the intelligent people (i.e. those who are not gawping at the OIXL nonsense on the telly) I will spend the next few days giving a little explanation of what voting is like in Australia.

Voting is compulsory. All Australian citizens over the age of 18 are required to vote. (“Registered voter” in Australia means that the electoral commission has you on its list. Nothing to do with that weird American party registration. We don’t know how that works, or why it is done.) If you fail to vote, you will be fined.

Elections are on Saturdays. (Unlike in the UK, where they want to keep the weekend free for important things, and so hold elections on Thursdays. It always rains.)

When you gaze upon the stars

What a difference, near or far

Any thoughts that feel so dire

    Will melt away

Please hold on to all your dreams

‘Cause life’s not always what it seems

When you gaze upon the stars

    They’ll comfort you

    Stars are kind

    They bring peace of mind

    Their sweet gentle twinkle as

    They shine so bright

Delights your heart all through the night

Star of chance two’ll see you through

When you gaze upon the stars

    As dreamers do

    (Ned Washington / Leigh Harline)

Getting off politics for a moment: has anyone in North America viewed the Orionid meteor shower this week? If so, where were you, what time of night did you see them, and what part of the sky did you look at? I followed instructions for my area and didn’t see squat.

…i have always Voted – things have gotten SO bad in ALL our levels of government that I was considering not voting at all anymore but that sits wrong with me. At least in our provincial election here I can decline my ballot – go into the polling booth, get my ballot, go behind the voting screen, and write Declined rather than indicating a candidate. They actually have to count those and list the number of declined…

Our system is royally screwed up. Many of us are working to dump the idiotic electoral system. You Aussies have the right idea – make it mandatory. That’s how I was raised – voting is a sacred duty.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Beatrixia: I like the It’s a Wonderful IX Lives Theater Troupe, but there is that actor I just don’t trust.

Puckmosis: Are you talking about that Dr. Sneaky Glove?

Beatrixia: Yes. I heard that’s not his real name. And he wasn’t nice to Maat-Tilda and her siblings.

Elvis-Anum: Well anyone who would ruin a graduation by stealing their senior project is no good in my book.

Beatrixia: If only there was some way we could find out what he’s up to.

    Enter Burt-Ra

Burt-Ra: I understand you’re suspicious of Dr. Sneaky Glove. His real name is Stealth-Mitt, you know.

Puckmosis: You know, he was taking quite an interest in the grounds around the palace.

Burt-Ra: Maybe we could use that. I understand Trevor-Hotep has been growing some Tulips of Truth.

Beatrixia: Why don’t we go out tonight? The Star to the Left is shining brightly.

Alan Parsons Project: Days are Numbers

Bandit the cat was searching through the town

He was at the asylum when he heard a sound

The Mitt had set a trap for him to lock him in right there

And sadly he was completely unaware

    …….

Paisley was trapped as well he found out soon

Freedom seemed far away as the moon

And every moment seemed to be

    A race against the time

But one bright star of hope remained to shine!

    …….

    Days are numbers

    Watch the stars

They can take you very far

And soon, you’ll know where you are

    …….

    Remember

    Days are numbers

    Watch for signs

You will soon see a bright star shine

And you will know things are fine!

    …….

Bandit and Paisley wait the morning sun

They don’t know how but still they’ll get it done

And something deep inside of them

    Keeps saying they’ll be fine

The star of second chances will always shine!

    …….

Dr. Mitts might make his evil plans

But there’s one thing he doesn’t understand

What ever he may try is always doomed to fail

The side of good and right will soon prevail!

    …….

    Days are numbers

    Watch the stars

They can take you very far

And soon, you’ll know where you are

    …….

    Remember

    Days are numbers

    Watch for signs

You will soon see a bright star shine

And you will know things are fine!

I’m always amaze by the stars, lately I have been calling them by there true name, Suns. It gives me a better perspective on what they really are and I can relate to them on a more personal basis. So instead of saying “look at all of the stars” I say "look at all of the suns”, then I can relate to them a little better knowing that in the morning I will not only be seeing a star but also feel its warmth.

You’ve let it be known, repeatedly, you don’t like it. So, as long as you know it’s going to be going on, just don’t come here to read. You can comment about all the things without being nasty to the rest of us who enjoy the break…

    Today is:

The birthday of Weird Al Yankovic and Johnny Carson. Laughter is good for you, even at your own expense.

National Mole Day: No, not the critters destroying your garden. This mole is the weight of the number of _mole_cules equal to Avogadro’s Number, 6.022 × 10⁶. If you had that many moles in your garden …

National Canning Day: A day on which all will be well preserved …

National Boston Cream Pie Day: It’s actually a cake, not a pie, and one of the first to be made with chocolate icing. I’d like a mole of it, please.

Swallows Depart Capistrano Day: After consuming a mole of Boston Cream Pie, they are walking.

    CLARK IS HOME!

Yayyyy. I’ll fill in some details we learned. When we brought him in Monday morning he was much worse than we knew. His blood panels were almost off the chart, probably hours away from a complete renal failure. 10-15 times higher than normal. BUN and Creatinine were the big problem.

This indicates the blockage had been going on longer than we knew. Clark is selectively aloof and sometimes avoids/ignores us for 2-3 days at a time. It wasn’t until he started vocalizing and moping that we realized there was a problem.

Once catheterized his blood panels reduced by about half. Still massively dangerous. Vet realized that his bladder was not emptying even with the cath. Hence a special med to remind the nerves controlling the bladder that they have work to do.

That prompted another day and night with the cath waiting for the meds to work. His blood work this AM was all completely within normal limits. Bladder was empty, so they pulled the cath. Wait a bit and he then was able to urinate on his own. Free at last.

We are keeping him confined to the bathroom for a couple days (possibly longer because of food) so we can monitor his output and not have to chase him down for medications. Another day on the nerve stim and a week or so on the med that relaxes the urethra (allowing crystals to exit). And, special food for a while to help break up the crystals.

He is a little skinny but seems to be back to normal. Very happy to be home even with confinement. Not even a dirty look. He presented himself for skritchies right out of the carrier.

We will watch like a hawk, but it looks like the dangerous part is over.
