Typical Luann, but long overdue nonetheless for Bern.

Luann’s like a lie detector. It’s less about being right, and more about seeing what questions arouse flushed reactions from her victim.

Tomorrow’s strip:

Bernice: See, your mom gave me this book with a bunch of underlined parts and I really started to get into it. But then I fell asleep and a had this weird dream. One like I never had before. I was in it. Monstro was in it. Jack was in it. And I started to have these feelings and got all swimmy inside. Then an RA showed up and distracted me and then you were there and Jack ran to you and Monstro couldn’t get him back … and … and … I hate you! Waaah!

Luann: What we need to do is get that quart if chocolate ripple ice cream from the freezer, two spoons, and I’ll put on the Friends With Benefits CD and have a good cry.

Ok, she has a bowl of cereal AND a glass of milk?

Luann stop it!!

So how do these 2 remain friends?

Makes up for all the snark Bernice has given Luann in the past. I like that the roles have reversed.

Luann has seen Jack barely.

Get Greg off the docks. Last month Nancy’s snoring sounded like a walrus and now we’ve got mermaids.

Hmmm. Didn’t Luann question Gunther about his sexcapades with Bets after he expressed his displeasure with her for spreading rumors about their relationship? This is sounding a little bit familiar.

Another inquisition…

Luann is heckling Bernice rather than being supportive. Tsk, tsk. Hey, Luann, forget about her dream – ask her if she has seen her brother.

Bern: actually Jack was all wet.Lu: what!

What is interesting is not just the wise playfulness Luann has with Bernice, but Bernice’s irritated but telling reaction, and Luann’s knowledge of the reason for Bern’s embarrassment. There is no evidence of an incipient conflict here, there is a hunk involved, but Luann has no romantic interest in him—Bernice does.

Okay so we go from Ben to finding out Bernice likes Jack…

Luann is just mean! How to get Bernice to never have or want a boyfriend. I remeber being teased like that and it damaged me for years.

As much as the strip has been much better at chasing Jack’s tail (as it were) Personallly I could go for another week or to of Luann teasing out how Bernice feels about Jack then helping to get up the nerve to ask him out. As much as that would be a much more interesting story, GnK need to circle back to Ben see what his problem is. Maybe he’s got a job and wants to tell Bernice she can move back home. Perhaps ot os time to tell her he has PTSD and that’s why he could keep corresponding with her. And that the craziness of the last couple years have been because of his PTSD… Or something like that. Ben needs a story, some reason to explain why he’s back in the strip after 13 years. GnK owe it to their fans.

I’d rather eat that bowl of dirt than listen to Luann. (And yes, I know it’s bran, but damn.)

Maybe flesh instead of flush

Luann seems to have a hard time hearing the sound the suffix ly makes. So I would say I had a dream where Jack richly appeared in the dream and made me richly off.

At what point is Luann going to stop acting like a thirteen year old?

Luann, when you behave like this it ALIENATES people. How many friends do you need to drive off before you see this?

I’ll tell you exactly what Bernice is NOT thinking right now: “I feel more warmly toward Luann, and more confident I can trust her”.

I love when Luann jokes like this with Bernice ♡ She’s adorable ♡. In her own way she is pushing Bernice to tell the dream and admit that she feels attracted to Jack. Great job Luann♡♡♡! And flushed Bernice is really cute ♡!

Bernice, just admit that you love him.

All the years Bern has busted Luann’s chops was ok, but here a bit of fun at Bern’s expense over a DREAM and they should end it?

Some of you are war veterans. You may have seen and done things that would curdle milk, But this triggers you. I am amazed.

Bernice – “ENOUGH! You want the truth! Okay here’s truth! I wasn’t dreaming about Jack. I was dreaming about Aaron Hill, and how to tell you!”

Luann – “Wha…?”

Bernice – “Silence! Let ME finish! I found out two weeks ago that Aaron Hill just bought and is moving into that vacant house right next door to you. I Saw him two days ago and he still looks the same. He’s divorced and has a five year old daughter. He asked about you over and over and said he can’t WAIT to SEE you again. I’ve been wracking my brain and fretting for days now on how to break the news to you gently, but doggone it, you FORCED my hand! Now! Can I please eat my Grape-Nuts in Peace??”

Luann – “BURGLE, BLOOB, GULP!” ;)

He also did not have any external equipment.

Now Luann, do what girls do, call Jack and tell him that Bernice likes him.

I think the colorist blew it. Can anybody see any trace of a flush in Bernice’s skin color in the last panel?

This conversation is what I’d expect to hear from giggly 10 yr old girls @ a sleepover. “You like Jack!” “I do not!” Seriously? Aren’t they supposed to be like 20 yrs old?

Luann is not the friend that I would want.

I see Luann playing with Bernice right now about Luke. but I can’t help but think jealousy is creeping right around the corner. If Bernice pursues this relationship with Luke. It would be awesome for her. but Luann will then get jealous that yet another friend is riding the love train. while she is still sitting there wondering why men don’t like her.

Come on folks. Lighten up on the tête-à-tête between two bosom (no pun intended) buddies. Today’s repartee is classic and has been a staple of the strip since day one. At times, both have been the instigator but Luann usually fills that role with Bernice commenting with a droll counter-coup.

Their friendship formed and is still somewhat based on feelings of inadequacy; both toward the world and each other. Luann feels inadequate to Bernice’s intelligence and Bernice feels inadequate to Luann’s exuberant personality. They’re a perfect match. Together they fill each other’s self-perceived inadequacies.

Luann and Bernice had drifted apart in the series since the move to two different colleges. Moving the two under one roof may be a long-term strategy for bringing these two uber-main characters to the forefront again. If so, expect more of this behavior with a more adult flavor. First example was Luann’s speculation with Bernice about Gunther’s amorous proclivities with Bets.

Sounds like fun to me. So let’s press on!

I still think Bern will say something that will get the better of Luann.

Looks like Luann has learned more from her psychology class than Bernice did! LOL!

I’m glad Luann is not jealous.

I hope Luann backs off; if she tells Jack things will get very awkward!

Beauty tip #6 a little flush is good for the appearance. Don’t let it go lacking all day (or the odor will grow unpleasant).

I think she was doing some more adult teasing than I’ve seen in a long time. She got Bernice to blush and subtly reminded her it was ok to like Jack. I’m just not seeing all the “mean” everyone else is.

Nice to see Luann being funny and playful.

Bernice is such a sour, bitter woman. She is lucky Luann is still her friend. Jack would never be interested in Bernice after he saw this side of her

Didn’t Bernice grow up as an only child? Luann grew up as a younger sister of a brother who always said and did insulting and teasing things to her. It looks to me like Bernice just doesn’t know how to handle this situation. Bernice used to get in one liners in the last panel of the old cartoons. This is an interrogation. Maybe Luann should focus more on finding her own relationship and not constantly involve herself in childish harassment of her friends who are dipping their toes into the relationship pool. She’s not be a supportive friend, she is smiling, but being antagonistic. That kind of relationship takes time to develop. Maybe they will now develop it along those lines, but Bernice is probably not used to being teased as much as Luann is.

Dreams are a figment of of your imagination.

As much of a waste of time as the week has been, I like seeing snide, b*tchy Bernice be on the receiving end of some snark for once. Clearly she can dish it out but can’t take it.

But can we please get some forward momentum on a plot next week, instead of more wheel-spinning? Confront with the Ben situation, ask Jack out, or even go back to Gunther and Bets. Just move a plot forward for Pete’s sake.

With best friends like Luann, who needs enemies? Right, Bernie?

Seems the idea that luann would be jealous is mistaken.

All that repression will explode someday. Ooh. la la.

Wasn’t Jack a nude model for Luann’s art class?

New angle here…. maybe it is time for Bernice to break the ice with Ben. She’s got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Hear me out peeps… since we have so many posters reveling in some “payback” and “tit for tat” revenge (and electronic surveillance and recording without consent) that Luann can now pull on Bernice, as “punishment” for past “wrongs”, how’s about Bernice remove herself from a needless and mean-spirited “game” (also called bullying)?

She can talk to Ben. Find out how much he’s been aching to see her, and how much he wants her to meet his kids. Turns out, Ben is a great guy, and the kids are delightful. And, based on S-Dog’s (d) scenario, she (untruthfully) told her parents that “everything’s fine, I already arranged living with Luann… nothing to worry about.” and they believed her. But now, she’s having second thoughts. Living at the DeGroots isn’t the plum she thought it would be. And, she realizes that life there would be a constant cycle of not-so-playful busting her chops and annoyance and irritation because she was a Snark-Monster once upon a time. All of a sudden, living with great guy Ben, his kids and the folks, who she “shielded” from her real dilemma starts to sound very, very good. Ben isn’t out for payback of any sort. And he’s a mature real-adult who knows how to act like one.

Befriending Ben is the gateway to re-opening communication with the folks, and finally breaking through the layers of wrong assumptions, bad mistakes, non-communication and panic-stricken wrong decisions that she had made and done. Once she knows for certain that her folks are glad to have her back, if things aren’t working out with Luann, she now has Option B in her back pocket.

She throws away her stupid history books and stops hiding. Instead, she picks up “Tagalog for Dummies” and delights in learning the language of Ben’s kids, and being their Tita.

Just tell her you, her and Jack were merpeople.

Soapy Soap. The long repressed stingers are starting to fly.

So it looks like Luann doesn’t have a romantic interest in Jack. What a shame. They are cute together. Bern is too rigid for playful Jack. I just can’t see it

This proves Luann is not in love with Jack.

Perhaps Bernice and Jack can start an animal friendly zoological preserve or retreat. I’m rootin’ for romance!

2 kiddies breakfast specials: milk and cold cereal, no hot coffee or strong tea. Can they even get their hearts started eating that stuff?
