I remember water. It was nice. It used to fall from the sky, too. We called it “rain”. The land would form giant bowls of it, called “lakes”, and it would run out and slither through the land like a snake. We called them “rivers”. Those were good times.

I grew up in New York in the 70’s and 80’s. I remember those days of alligator street surfing quite well. And the cockroaches were big and nasty. If you hit them with the Sunday edition of the New York Times they would just shrug it off.

There were plenty of kids who would ride on the outside of the subway or the project elevators, so alligators are not that radical.

Grandpa stories are the best. When my grand-daughter once asked me how old I was (she was 4 at the time) I told her I was so old that, because I was the biggest kid in my class, learning to write on the cave walls, I had to stand at the front of the cave with a spear to keep the dinosaurs out. As she asked more questions, I embellished the story, including how her great-grandmother hated Thanksgiving because it took her so long to make stuffing for a pterodactyl. Grand-daughter was mad at me when she finally learned the truth, having told most of the neighborhood about my fighting dinosaurs, but we have a good laugh about it today.

That may go a step or two beyond embellishment. That’s almost a 45 level of out-of-touch with the truth… But at least grandpa is entertaining and within legal limits.

It’s a bright beautiful day here, on the Southcoast of Mass.

A good day for a walk, maybe find a bit of muddy water.

Call up the young Panda spirit, We’ll squat down and see what’s living in the muck and water. If I get muddy, I’ll get spoken to. Not the first time for that.

    Celebrate the day, my friends!

Where I lived in Florida, the streets would often flood after bad storms. After Hurricane Charley, kids were sailing down the streets on Sunfish boats, while their parents were using canoes and rowboats to get around in my neighborhood for several days. Didn’t help that one of the near-by earthen dams had broken.
