ehh…didn’t she give Shannon a pair of scissors? So thats her logic? Parents are protective of their kids! at least aknowledge why an elementary school is concerned about strangers jumping a fence. i still cant asses how much danger the children were in tbh. How can Luann prove that Tara wouldnt try shooting an apple? ?

I am disappointed in you, Luann. I KNOW Tara! I knew nothing dangerous was gonna happen." Worst thing you could say. It doesn’t matter you know Tara. You did not follow the proper procedures for an approved guest. What you should have said is “I apologize. Tara walked over the fence and got away from me before I could take control of the situation. Before I knew it, the kids were in the classroom with Tara. I know I should have done to keep Tara off the property and explained to her that she needed to go to the front office first. It is my fault.” THAT is what happened and what Principal Purgus needed to hear. He doesn’t care that you know Tara. Perhaps upon hearing the fence is so low that Tara could easily walk over, he will take action and have the fence raised to the proper height to protect the children from outsiders – and people like Tara. Regardless, Luann was going to lose her job anyway – even with less hours, it is still like being fired. What I am more disappointed about is she went after TARA to talk more about archery job. The Tara whose reckless actions cost her job. Luann should just go straight home and forget about Tara.

What a stupid solution! If she’s a danger to the kids in one school she would be a danger to kids at all schools. If she’s safe to work at a different school, she’s safe to stay where she was.

Tara did say she believed Luann was letting the school walk all over her and belittle her. Luann didn’t believe it, til Purgus gave her that pathetic deal. Then she realized the hard truth and walked out. I bet Tara will be shocked that Luann stood up for herself. Problem is, now that she chose to stand up for herself, now she gets to stand in the unemployment line.

This may be a blessing in disguise for Luann, time to move on to bigger and better things. Lets see what is next now that she has put the minimum wage kiddie care job in the rear view mirror.

In honor of Luann telling Anvil Face to take his job and shove it I just played the Hoodoo Guru’s “Out That Door”, good band from Australia that got a lot of play and charted on the college radio stations in the mid to late ’80s, they toured and did studio sessions with the Bangles during that time.

Well then, it looks like Luann’s idea of taking responsibility was to argue that rules can be ignored if she decides they shouldn’t apply, and to only accept a punishment if it doesn’t actually have a negative effect on her life at all.

    So much for character development.

Oh, and so much for people claiming the principal was so unreasonable and unprofessional. He was letting Luann off incredibly light (and it STILL wasn’t good enough for her!)

I’m so often a contraction because there is so much judgment, moralizing, projection in the comments. But I am right more often than not in catching the arc of the story. What happens next is open but clearly Tara is a character device that gets Luann to make a major change, which she needs. What happens next ought to be surprising in any event. No judgement, moralizing, or projection.

Glad to see Luann decide to go with her friend. Half the hours, probably farther and this was the best that Mr. Worm could do (and unfortunately, it really must be). I wonder how the other mothers will take this news and see their children sad because Miss Luann had to leave… At least now Luann will have to think about her future and Tara is a smart person she can talk to without being insulted. It would be nice if Jack was there too. Luann helped him understand her vocation, he would be happy to do the same.

Then Tara butted in, smarted off and then Luann allowed herself to be dragged off by Tara. Of course Purgus is going to be highly annoyed at this point.

The biggest shame here is the way society has evolved to what it is today. 30 years ago, no one would’ve batted an eye at all this, it wouldn’t have been a problem. Unfortunately, people are bombarded with mass media 24/7/365 and they’re fed a steady diet of scary stories… Paranoia, mistrust, the stuff crazy people do…. And with school shootings, the schools have no choice but to try and have things locked down as much as possible. So when an unknown 20-year old just casually strolls into a school with a weapon, then yes, heads will roll.

Luann should be thanking her lucky stars that Mr. Purgus was so lenient with her. By any reasonable standard, Luann would have been fired outright instead of given another, less paying, job where she can continue to violate rules and endanger children. Most of all, she should be grateful to him for not reporting her to the police. Luann’s offense wasn’t just that she let an unauthorized visitor onto the campus, it was that she admitted an unauthorized visitor who was carrying a deadly weapon, which she proceeded to show to the children. That’s not just a violation of the school’s rules, it’s a violation of the law. Luann is blessed to be facing just another job at a different school instead of facing a court date.

So much wrong with this story arc:

    1. In a daycare setting like this, Luann would work for a Daycare Administrator, not a school principal;2. Daycares require special licensing. Never even mentioned in Luann’s case;3. If Luann had been an actual daycare worker, she would have known that you can’t bring unapproved visitors to the place. For example, I am a responsible gun owner and know many responsible gun owners, but there is zero way I would bring a gun to the daycare and show it to the kids, and yes, archery is not exactly the same thing but arrows ARE dangerous and would be restricted;4. In a real-world situation, since the kids were in no real danger (by the way, who is watching those kids right now?), the disciplinary aspect would come up in a more formal setting, where – most likely – Luann would be reminded of the rules, written up, and how to better handle the situation next time would be discussed;5. I know this is a cartoon, but that means all the other aspects are similarly unrealistic

Not sure what is going on in this story arc but Luann is not a teacher, just a pre school babysitter and apparently even the kids can push her around. The person in charge should have just fired her, as she broke a basic rule.

Luann seems to allow everyone to push her around, as both Tara and the kids did so easily, but he forced her into quitting so no unemployment benefits for her.

Luann did not get in trouble because of the archery. She got in trouble because of the “unapproved guest rule.” These days, when kids are involved, you simply cannot have staff allowing people just showing up where they are working, whether it’s inside the classroom or outside. Luann’s response to Tara should have been “go check in at the front desk before we do anything else.” The rule is there to protect the kids, and the mother was right to be angry about it. Whether a first violation of that rule is a firing offense is another question, but since this seems to be a private business whose first priority has to be the kids’ safety, it’s not an unreasonable reaction.

So glad that Luann gets to do something different with her Life!!!! She can handle the entertainment part of the Fuse ( like Pru did ). Maybe a nice play starring her old boyfriend LOL. A nice musical would be fun. Holiday parties – bachelor parties – weddings -baby showers – etc. Maybe during the bachelor party -Luann could meet a new love life???

I would like to see a call back to Principal Pergus trying to fill Luann’s position. How many years has Luann worked with those kids? She is not going to be replaced easily with a work study student

Typical? Instead of addressing the problem, move it somewhere else. Reminds me of troubled kids who are shuffled from school to school rather than try to help them. Wonder what Nancy and Frank would say. I’m not convinced Tara has a solution worth a grain of salt. =:-o

not to far from what happens to teachers for real. Crazy mothers ready to sue or anything and weak admin ready to hang the teacher for nothing.

Umm wasn’t expecting the guy to be an intolerant “cancel” moron as opposed to a reasonable educator. “Unapproved guest” rule? “Parental complaint from one mom?” Punishment without allowing Luann to give her side of the story? Yep. That’s US culture today. Note what’s happening in Virginia’s governor race where “Parents vs Educators” has become the issue that may decide the election results.

I want to be on Luann’s side here, but I can’t. Whether an incident happened or not isn’t the issue. If she didn’t get approval from the administrators to let someone into a classroom full of kids, it’s a safety risk no matter how much control Luann or Tara had over the situation. Maybe firing her would be harsh (a warning, write up, or reduction in hours would have sufficed), but Luann should have known better. Rules sometimes suck, but they are there for a reason.

Just wait until the children start griping and the parents start calling.

“Luann, will you please come back. We will double your salary.”

LuAnn, learn the lesson here. Next time have Tara do her speech/demonstration on the public street on the other side of the fence and not on school grounds.

This is the problem with public schools. Officials are hamstrung away from using good common sense. Between the teachers’ unions and parents who want to run the schools principals are terrified of lawsuits and strikes. And the students suffer. This school just lost a great teacher’s aid in Luann and for what? Because Tara waved around some archery equipment!

I think the principle is upset that he is having to do his job & he’s taking it out on Luann. He did put Luann in an illegal situation of kids/supervisor (speaking of rules that were broken), and then trusted the judgment of a uncredentialed 19 year old. I’m a little disappointed that Luann didn’t bring any of this up in response to “best I can do”. It seems she’s just gonna get pushed around (again) without any real character growth toward ambition or a spine. I doubt the schools going to find someone else to work under the conditions of Kidz 1st.

the thing of note is the parent was clearly a karen, she got only half the story and rushed off to complain and the principal didn’t bother getting the other side. as a result he’s not missing a teacher, he was probably going to swap L with someone at the other school, now he has a whole class and no one to help.

When I was sixteen, I had a restaurant job that I quit the night the owner’s wife started screaming at my for not filling a dishwasher fast enough. I went out to the owner who was running the register and quit in front of customers, saying something like “you said that you’d treat me like a son, but I guess I just don’t like this family, so I quit” and walked out. Luann will do fine.

A young person should be able to go through several jobs and work situations to gain experience and always be treated with respect. Doofus principal may be technically correct, but by failing to get her side of the situation and understand all the facts, he fails as a manager and a decent adult.

The principal was within his rights to fire Luann. He was within his rights to have Tara prosecuted. He did neither, and gave them both a break. And HE’S the bad guy here?

I can’t really blame her for leaving. Is the rule no guests near the kids or no guests talking to the kids about stuff? They just talked. No one shot or I don’t believe, even touched an arrow.
