I get the pun, but what does turning or terns have to do with grammar?
What about tern around?
Our regular tern took a wrong tern, so …
… today’s tern is being played by one of our pelican stand-ins.
Awful tern of phrase.
It takes a lot gull to create puns like those.
Stopped it before it took a tern for the worst!

That last one should not be confused with a Ute urn, which is pottery produced by certain native Americans.
When I saw the last one, the first thing that came to mind was Y-turn, M-turn, C-turn, A-turn
