Momma knows her girl. Tidy Woman’s got some splainin’ to do! So now do we have a battle that can only be settled with a check of the microchip? Bring on Dr. Man!
Every member of the rescue team had an important role to play in this saga. Things would not have proceeded to this point if even one of the team had failed in their tasks. I like that. And, at the very least, the next two days are going to be verrrry interesting.
Btw, where exactly is Gutter? I know he got through the ceiling, but that doesn’t that mean he’s trapped between two floors? How will he escape the Tidy Purgatory?
There is glitter all over the air yet Sophie’s mom’s white outfit is spotless. What sort of glitter-repellent clothing doe she have? I hope it doesn’t use a PFAS coating.
I remember being on lunch duty when we all heard a scream from the playground that was not a playful scream but a scream of pain. The cashier immediately jumped up and ran out through the kitchen calling the name of her son. A moment later she came back into the cafeteria with the arm around her boy whose arm was bent at a place below the elbow indicating a severe break. A mother recognizes the distress call of her own child even amid the inside noise of a full cafeteria and the outside noise of noon recess. (The paramedics had to yank the bone back into position as soon as they got to the school because the break was so bad it was cutting off circulation. That was a scream I never want to hear again.)
Yeah you do know that call!!! We are moments from Happy Reunion time! What a relief. When I think of Tommy’s Woman going to work with heartbreak and anxiety about her own missing baby, I want to cry.
I love the sheer joy on the face of Sophie’s Woman when she recognizes the call! I am sure she has been anxious about her special girl (referencing back to the January 13, 2019 strip).
Of course I am THRILLED that things are finally all coming together here for Sophie and all the rescuers. But I think I’m not quite understanding all the connections Georgia planned here.
How did ‘Seeing the June bug’ lead to ‘Gotta get back inside’ and then ‘Can I use your bathroom ?’
What can Sophie’s woman do if formerly tidy woman refuses to open the bathroom door? If she believes there is an animal in danger, does that qualify as “exigent circumstances” and give her the right to force the door open?
Isn’t that Tommy’s person, who runs the rescue, not the woman who lives in the Pink house who would be Sophie’s person? Doesn’t Sophie live in the pink house with the rest of the BKN primary bunch? Or has my MECFS brain muddled things up?
H/T Rodgers & Hammerstein, The Sound of Music (Sorry, I have to get ready for work and don’t have time for more. May post a more complete version later!)
What an ironic twist of fate. Who knew that a woman’s need to pee would lead to the solving of such a great mystery. If only Hercule Poirot had, had a weak bladder, many a mystery would have been solved at a much more rapid pace.
Great job Jules! You herded Sophie’s Woman right back to where she needed to be. I do hope Sophie has had time for another one of her masterpieces while she was trapped in the bathroom.
This may have been mentioned before, so forgive me if I’m repeating. Is that Sophie’s trash bag cape that formerly tidy woman is holding in the 3rd panel?
Perhaps Sophie will ride gutter as her noble steed, mice in pocket, on a journey of adventure back home… Or the woman with the crate will take her and Gutter can trudge home with the mice and the air force.
While the calendar has flipped, I do still hope Jules (in comic time) will dive-bomb (U)TW a few times — with his iconic “Hee hee!”
On another note, and this might have been mentioned when Chitter and Chatter first found Sophie, I was wondering how they knew to look more closely if the alarms were so sensitive. I finally thought of a possibility — they would have known what the car looked like, so maybe they saw it in the driveway.
Additionally, I imagine the Tidy Couple have a garage, so maybe it was left out to be washed. If so, I do hope the Chickadees did a strafing run or two, a la The Goodfeathers in a particular Animaniacs short.
Gutter Rescued Sophie! with a little help from some friends. If Gutter hadn’t gone to rescue Sophie, Tidy Woman wouldn’t have called Animal Control, and Sophie’s Woman wouldn’t have gone there and heard Sophie.

John Denver: Calypso
Fall from a window on a night full of starlight
Waiting for rescue when sunrise begins
Taken by someone who may or may not mean well
Waiting for rescue and missing my friends!
…….
Ah, my friends who did not give up to find me
To the rescue they all did arrive
Now my Woman has come to the rescue!
I’ll send her my yodel, my hopes all revive!
…….
Me-ee-ow-ow! And maybe a purr!
Me-ee-ow-ow! Here I am!
Me-ee-ow-ow! I knew you’d come through!
Me-ee-ow-ow! My spirits revive once again!
…….
Trying to remember the lessons I’ve learned
Reading the diary of Dear Lady Jane
Know in my heart my friends would come through now
Knowing my hopes were never in vain!
…….
Ah, my friends who did not give up to find me
To the rescue they all did arrive
Now my Woman has come to the rescue!
I’ll send her my yodel, my hopes all revive!
…….
Me-ee-ow-ow! And maybe a purr!
Me-ee-ow-ow! Here I am!

At the Royal Palace, Elvis’s Office
Kat-Mandu: Special papyrus deliver for Elvis!
Elvis-Anum: Just in time! We’ve won the Papyrus Cathalon! How about a celebratory scone and tea?
Kat-Mandu: Yes. A Xanadu honey scone would not come amiss.
Elvis: It just so happens Sue Chef has completed a batch.
At the Royal Snack Room
Kat-Mandu: Delicious as always, Sue. Have you heard from Thomios?
Sue Chef: Yes. He and Packer (Iron Glove’s younger brother) are in Away cooking for the athletes in the Village.
Kat: They are all in for a treat. And here come the Artisans!
Sophititi: Congratulations on your Catathlon win. I hear you took the Gold.
Elvis: Well, not quite.
Adobe Style: But you came in first, didn’t you?
Kat: Yes. But there is a complication.
Maat-Tilda: What happened?
Elvis: Ora Z.
Kat: But we’ll be awarded the Gold when she’s done playing with it.

will Jules play a larger role?

Since Georgia titled this arc “Sophie’s Summer Adventure”, I don’t think she is done with us yet. I hope that:
1. Violet cuts the power again just as the bathroom door is opened (remember, Violet said she wanted to)
2. Gutter sweeps down from the ceiling vent on the grappling hook to help Sophie out of TW’s house
3. Sophie makes her way home through the woods with Gutter’s help meeting new friends along the way ( a big confidence boost for her)
4. the robber mice grab Li’l Starfish Squeaker before they leave and return it to her at home

The mouse that dropped the fourth bag—did she have it filled with purple paint and/or grape juice along with glitter?
