My phone has different ring tones than my wife’s has. Why would they use the same ones? The tone I have for my wife’s calls goes: it’s the wife! IT’S THE WIFE! People in the grocery seem to enjoy it.
Just once I’d like to see a splash of color in the Sunday strip. A little red, some bright blue, dare I ask for some golden yellow? The Sundays are so lackluster.
And what’s the joke here? Did they both choose the same dialtone and not compare them? Have they forgotten what tone they chose (incipient dementia)? Or could they not figure out how to change the dial tones? They have a 18 year old in the house. That all the technical help they need. (Where would my wife and I be without out daughter to fix our phones). Or did Greg forget to renew his subscription to Joke-Of-The-Day?
They could record their own tones and use them. That’s what I’ve done with almost all of the notification tones I use on my phone. Then again, neither Frank nor Nancy would even know how to do that . . . and I doubt Luann would have the patience to even show or help them do it.
Mine has a simple “Jason is calling” voice ring tone I created. Everyone else just has a generic ring tone. The first I always answer, the rest I do later.
The phones should not be on the nightstand because all the notifications would wake them up. But they could definitely record their own ring tones that use their names. And if they can’t figure it out, one of their kids could help them.
Actually, it could go “Frank, Frank, Frank” or “Nancy, Nancy Nancy”. Just make a recording on your computer of whatever you want the ringtone to be, and add that to your phone. Depending on what kind of phone you have, it’s only 5-10 easy steps.
Different ring tones don’t work for my husband. Half the time when his phone is in his pocket I have to ask him if he’s going to answer his phone. He usually says “Oh I thought that was your phone” lol
We’ve been having a spate of small, but very close earthquakes lately. I’m getting text notifications of earthquakes as they’re occurring. Thanks so much! I was was wondering why my house is shaking!
My ring tone is from the movie “In Like Flint” starring James Coburn. He was a Bond like spy and he had a special phone to receive calls from the president.
Pro tip: You can make an audio file, MP3 is easiest, to say a name and add it to the ringtone folder in your Android smart phone. Not sure about fruit phones.
My husband and his mom have different tones for both calls & text so 4 different sounds total – does either one of them know which is theirs? I absolutely don’t get that. My phone was ringing the other day and she said your tablet is making noise, lol. Yes, people have tablets that small, sure.
I never have my phone in the room when I’m sleeping. I’m not a doctor or firefighter. No one needs to contact me at night. A few months ago the county accidentally sent out a blaring test signal at 4 am to cell phones instead of the TV. Everyone else was rudely awakened, but not me.
I hope they at least set their favorite songs as their ringtone and alarm. Frank and Nancy are a really unite couple if they decided to buy new phones together.
I once used the opening of a 50s hit “You’ll Lose A Good Thing” by Lou Ann Barton, as my ringtone. It’s a great riff and one day my phone went off when I was in a meeting. The meeting hadn’t started yet. I reached for my phone and the manager holding the meeting said “Wait, I want to hear more of that.” So I did.
There’s a magical thing called settings that you can set your phone’s ringtone and any other sounds the phone makes to anything you want. Try Zedge it’s an app. thank me later.
Since Greg Evans apparently loves these “old people who are so out of touch” stories, he may as well retitle the Sunday strips “Old Folks at Home: 2020s Edition.”
I always change my default alert and ringers when I get a new phone so that my brain doesn’t get distracted by all the other similar phones out there making the same noise. I have a Pixel (Android) and my landlord has an iPhone. Whenever ANY phone makes a sound, he always asks, “Was that my phone?” And I always wonder, can’t you tell the difference? They don’t sound anything alike. I should probably change his ringer to kettle drums or something.
For my ringtone, I use the Kinks’ “Party Line”, which opens with a ringing telephone followed by Grenville Collins speaking, “Hello, whos’s that speaking, please.” I usually can answer by the time Dave starts singing.
I have a fitbit Versa 4. I cannot figure out how to change the alarm sound. I know that several people in here are techy. Can someone give me the steps? I set it up when I got it, and I just can’t stand the sound of it anymore and can’t figure out how to change it. By alarm, I mean, for example, today I set one for noon so I could get my dog and I to the local hospital so she could do dog therapy. If no one can help me, at least take pity on me. This is worse than any other ear worm I have ever dealt with. Yes, I did do a search online. I need to set up random alarms.
Never seen the device that can’t be switched off or muted and ignored. Turn the screens off, breathe and read books. You’ll sleep better,be happier, and life will get better! Happy Sunday! ;-)
This is why I tell people not to call after 9:30 p.m. (I still have a landline, anyway), and don’t call me in the middle of the night, if someone dies… I can’t do anything about it, and that person is sleeping, so, I’d like to be, as well!
I have mine set up to go to ‘do not disturb’ if I lay the phone face down on my bedside table. That means I don’t hear all those notification beeps. The alarm-clock function still works. I have a select few people whose phone numbers will also bypass ‘do not disturb.’ Certain emergency numbers will ring through, too.

Wouldn’t they just each have their own phone on their own night table? Would be zero confusion!
So will Stef scream at Gun when she sees Kip is gone? lol

If I left my phone on my nightstand I’d have to have a ring that says, “It’s your phone, not the alarm!”

First Nancy can’t remember the pin# for her debit card (when buying groceries); now it’s her phone ring tones she no longer recognizes.

My wife ordered me to pick a tone she couldn’t confuse with hers. Not that I get that many calls / texts anyway.
Is hearing loss or memory loss the reason being suggested for Nancy and Frank forgetting their own tones?
