The elongated sound suggests that the ball is stuck and the water won’t stop coming – though it should slow down significantly when the tank is empty – but the water will still keep coming.
That’s not even a pun. It’s just the same word repeated in both correct spelling and standard humorous misspelling. Toilet training used to consist of plopping toddlers on the pot and commanding them to do their duty. Hence…
Take the lid off the tank and look inside, the chain is hung up, you need to let the flapper down. Don’t leave the water running! If on a well it will run it dry if you don’t have a pump tec and if you’re on city water, there’ll be a bill for letting it run.
PSA (FKA a Public Service Announcement in a time when people spoke English (among other languages) rather than relying on ever changing initials as lazy shortcuts)… The Count’s boilerplate response about “Mushroom Food” will be withheld by (un)popular demand. God Bless America and Have a Blessed Day.
In other words, Les doesn’t have a clue about jiggling the handle or taking the tank cover off to see why the falpper won’t drop down and resolve the problem. I suppose he’ll text Gunther and ask what to do.
I hope one day there will be a story that addresses the fact that Les is afraid of his uncle. He didn’t break it on purpose and he shouldn’t be afraid to tell him. Let’s see if he calls a plumber now or tries to fix it himself. The house has to be kept from flooding and save Punk from getting his paws wet.
Oh this is gonna be too easy. Gun & Les lack a dad in their life, and it shows in moments like this. Dads mentor young men in myriad ways, and being handy with small home repairs is one of them. At least, GenZ and successors have YouTube vids to help, but a good dad is hands-on. We saw Brad to be that kind of dad-in-waiting with the recent Shannon arc. Here, we get the classic compare & contrast to go with that…and we get to laugh at it. It’s really tragic for Les, if you really consider it. What he will have to go through to learn what he will need to know will be that much harder without the mentorship of his dad. Uncle Al is benevolent, but avoiding him at this moment is not a good idea. Al’s all the dad Les has, and by the time Les understands enough to truly appreciate that, it might be too late. Plot twist: Just what might be the cause of the toilet issue? Bets was just present, and I’ve heard too many accounts of certain gender-specific paper products being the source of many clogs. Yes, that’s a reach here, as we don’t know if it is a clog or not yet. The hissing sound likely means an issue with the flapper, and that’s a basic Herbie Homeowner repair. In defense of Les, we did see a few days of him being a good cat dad to Punk. That’s good practical experience for actual fatherhood. I reiterate my prior assertion that there is something bigger and deeper afoot. The obvious foreshadowing has been what will likely be this strip’s de facto Project 2025, which is a pregnant Toni. As we all know, that little winged jerk with the arrows likes to do his thing when one is not seeking it, and is merely content in one’s own vibe. Tara Starr and Les could become a thing. We are about due for a checkup on the girls in the dorm.
A “running” toilet can be an easy fix, even for Les. But of course, he’ll wait for Gunther to come home from whatever he’s doing with Bets. (Which, I presume doesn’t involve what prurient minds have thought of. That they’ve done in Gunther’s room, door closed, with Les’ in the TV room, or, his bedroom. So why would they need to go some place else?)
Uh oh! Actually, you should tell him ASAP. Always notify the landlord immediately, so it can be fixed before more expensive collateral damage occurs. Also……Les, you need to learn how to work a plunger. They’re not actually all that complicated.
Love the way Greg draws Punk – it seems that with just a few lines he captures the nuance of a cat purrfectly! But I see G&K have now reverted to “potty humor” LOL! Whatever you do Les, DON’T flush it again!!
I think the point is that this is the natural result of Les’s super-minimalist approach to learning & achievement. I predict Gunther will come in & fix the thing inside 30 seconds, when he gets home.
It’s constantly flushing (I imagine Les would quickly exit the room if it was overflowing). First thing to check is the flapper. May be stuck or caught in the chain that pulls it up. Just untangle it. At worst the float needs replaced. Fairly easy DIY project. Lots of how-to books and videos explain how.

Why would Les be afraid to tell Al? Toilet innards wear out all the time. It’s to be expected.
And if he doesn’t want to tell Al.. why doesn’t he just call a plumber and get it fixed on his own?

Don’t worry – Gunther & Bets will tell Uncle Al you broke his toilet.

It’s not that difficult to fix a toilet. Looks like he needs to open the tank and check the flush valve…or maybe the flapper isn’t closing
