Phil probably had to work, or already had other plans. Luann could’ve made that comment as an off-handed joke, not being serious.

Who is this paragon of a child that Mrs. Horner is describing? It doesn’t sound like our Luann.

Mrs. Horner is kind and polite. Nancy is like every parent; she hopes her daughter turned out alright.

Is it possible that Luann could get a paying job at the nursing home? And bring Puddles as a “therapy” pet??

It’s not a matter about Nancy being a parent. Easy for anyone living with someone every day for a long time to build a deep-seated impression & not notice changes. Luann’s the little girl whose aunt is surprised to find out she’s now a young woman attending college.

It’s time for Ann Eifel to blow some life into this dull story again.

Nancy is worried about Luann. She’s relieved she has good character but likely to continue to worry about other things.

“I’m so relieved!. Maybe she will finally hook up with some guy and get the heck out of the house.”

Contrary to popular biased opinion, I actually agree with everything Mrs Horner said about today’s ‘Luann.’

Lu is all that and much more.

But the “Old Jr. High Luann” certainly wasn’t. ;-)

It’s sad that she doesn’t realize this about Luann. Maybe she should read this strip more often.

LuAnn keeps dancing around her true calling. She’s good with people, especially children and the elderly. She has a lot to give. If only she would open her eyes to see that she has a clear career path.

Relax, Ivlax, many adults have been stunned by the review of their kids from other people.

Behavior at home is often totally different than in public.

Nancy seems to discover only now that her daughter is a great girl, who respects people and knows how to win them over with her education and sympathy. It’s beautiful to see her so moved and happy, a mother proud of her daughter. It would be nice to see her always like this.

Luann is a fine girl, she’s nice, responsible, caring.

Mom said it’s better if they behave in public than misbehaving it like at home. she also jokes and asks them if they’re talking about the same kid as well… sigh. :j

Tomorrow is Wednesday, which means plot misdirection day, so “Phil” is a possibility, but I highly doubt it. Anybody here heard of Pavlov’s experiments in animal conditioning? It’s the parent of behaviorism/conditioning. Anyway, yes Luann is all those things. When she is on her own she will show it. She and Brad are the only two-parent, stable, consistently loving thus most believable in Luannverse.

Yeah, Luann does have her good points. It’d sure be nice if we got to see those sides of her on Sundays, instead of her always being the subject of a “teens suck, am I right?” punchline.

Luann is never thoughtful, generous or polite toward Nancy. In fact, she is outright disrespectful most of the time. She expects her mother to do her laundry, she gives her mother left-handed gifts and is never depicted helping out around the house. If I were Nancy, I would be sad to learn that this ignorant little free-loading bimbo is nicer to other people than she is to me.

I don’t think any parent know what their kids are like away from home. (good or bad)

If anything, it means Nancy and Frank must have done something right in raising Luann.

Now if Luann would visit her own strip more often it would be great.

“House Devil, Street Angel” that’s the way I raised mine.

Luann, her family and Mrs. Horner are the only sane people in this strip.

Ease up on Nancy people. All parents feel this way. It’s more about validation for their jobs of raising them than it is about their children.

Luann might grow up and be less of a wimp if she had some good role models to emulate. But Ellen and Portia just moved to England.

Completely off-topic… Dang, this site is soooo laggy. Do they not notice?

I don’t know why you would be flabbergasted, you should be able to see those qualities in your own daughter.

spoiler: Luanne will never get a real job or romance and will change her parents diapers and drive them to doctor appointments for 30 years, then when they die her life will be bereft of meaning because everyone else moved on while she stayed stuck. It’ll be the funniest, and maybe the first ever funny punchline in the history of the strip.
