HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO EVERYONE!!

I’m thankful we all get to read the LUANN strip daily… and usually argue about it. ;)

I’m not allowed to carve the turkey anymore. My family don’t like me performing a necropsy on their meal.

What a surprise, our new president elect is a butcher also.

Back in the ’60’s, GE marketed an electronic carving knife; I can remember seeing commercials for it on TV. Apparently, it never sold well—it was a bulky thing and hard to control. Happy Thanksgiving to all in the Luanniverse.

Frank’s grip on that knife looks pretty awkward.

We still use an electric knife. It’s great for slicing breast meat. Cut joints with a blade. Then slice with an electric knife. But the task, or honor, has passed to a grandson. So he can do it however he prefers. Shalom.

Lots of celebration of Mrs. Horner. Seems like Mrs Horner won’t make it to Xmas.

Furthermore, if you break into Mrs Horner’s place, you’re liable to get CUT.

It’s 4:20 in th morning here. Just started baking the turkey so it’ll be done around 2:30 in th afternoon. Pretty big turkey, 31 pounds an at 20 minutes a pound that’s about 620 minutes, so around a little over 10 hours. Pretty close.

Turkey coma at 4:00 in th afternoon. Film at 11..

No butchers in my family, but my mother used to sharpen a knife like this and she would carve the turkey. Later on we got an electric knife. I do not have one so I am back to carving by hand.

Mrs. Horner carve the turkey with wonderful dignity, it’s nice to know more about her. Frank’s astonishment is amusing and she’s certainly enjoying this dinner. Happy Thanksgiving from Europe!

My dad could sharpen a knife on teh sharping rod like that. Me not so much, but then he also worked in a meat packing plant for a time.

Not that hard to carve the bird.

The AMAZING Mrs. Horner!!!!

After 400 years, we still honor the sharing of the earth’s blessings upon the earliest settlers of this country. They came here, escaping persecution for having a different religious belief than the king. They shared the bounty with those who had lived on that land for thousands of years. The fact that those immigrants didn’t get wiped out by their new neighbors is a testament to the power of tolerance and sharing, and in itself may be a miracle.We should all be very thankful that those from across the sea were allowed to survive and eventually prosper. This is something worth celebrating…. HAPPY IMMIGRANTS DAY!!! God bless those escaping religious persecution and seeking a new life.

I suppose knife skills may come in handy these days as a teacher. On the other hand, never bring a knife to a gun fight.

I’ve never seen the purpose of carving the bird at the table, but then my family has never been one to follow traditional traditions.

Is the whetstone on the table in the first panel, or did Mrs. Horner bring her own? Most people do not own a whetstone.
