Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for December 07, 2024

That’s a great idea. If she wants to help out and save lives, she should donate some blood.

I wonder if they dressed Luann in a red sweater and Phil in a green uniform to be Christmassy?

So who else thinks it’s high time to dump this arc?? LOL

I’ve been sick the last few days. Obviously my brain hurts. Luann was willing to donate a kidney but draws the line at a pint of blood because it would help THREE people? Maybe I’m sleep deprived but that doesn’t make any sense.

I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Luann will donate blood. And most likely Greg will include a public service announcement, as he did in the arc about Brad donating blood [1997/04/07–12].

Save them…let them die… your choice.

The blood may be wasted or it might save lives.

A transplant might save lives or fail. You might die during donation surgery. You might not.

Livers are the best. You can donate part and it will grow back on you and on the recipient.

God, Luann is now sounding even stupider. That’s what Phil is thinking when he said she’s tricky to talk to. She talks like a 8-year-old Shannon. Golly, now you’re saying I could save 3 more people? Geez. Luann, let’s drop the whole thing while you’re at it and talk about something else. I suspect Phil is getting the idea that you’re slow upstairs. Or go home and have a think on the blood donation. Donating a kidney is a big sacrifice as you’re going to lose an organ and we all can relate the reluctance to donate it to a stranger if you can’t donate to Mrs Horner. With blood donation, it doesn’t affect you. You don’t lose something your body will naturally replace. Go donate blood.

Back in 2008, I donated bone marrow cells that saved the life of a complete stranger. When people asked me why, I replied “Why not??” I also was a regular donor at my synagogue’s semi-annual blood donor. In Judaism, saving a human life is considered the ultimate “mitzvah”.

No Phil, she’s not “tricky to talk to” – you’ve creeped her up to crazy levels. “May not be right for you”? As if this is a casual donation one makes? Why not an eye or something then – won’t have life-risking complications later in life by being blind in one eye. This is such a weird conversation…

A nurse at a blood drive asked if I would like to hold the pint that I’d donated.I was startled but did. It felt warm and bubbly and it was Heavy! It was tangible proof that the abstract concept of a red tube attached to your arm was a lifesaving tool. I recommend it.

Look up the story of James Harrison. When he was 18, he learned that his blood contained an antibody that could treat a rare blood disease in infants. He donated blood every week for the next 60 years.By the time he had to stop, he’d saved more than 2.4 million lives.

For years in the army, they had blood drives but I never gave because I was worried about the affects that it might have on me. Once I retired, a friend was needing blood, so I donated. I found that it was pretty much a non-event concerning fatigue, etc. Then I started giving as often as was allowed, for years. Then I had to slow down because I discovered that you can develop an iron deficiency by giving too often. I still give, just not as often.

Geez, can Luann be any more infantile? She’s talking like a two year old and being tediously wishy-washy! She should just admit she has no intention of donating ANYTHING and that’s okay, that’s a really personal decision, but there’s no reason for this bozo Phil to be putting her on a guilt trip. She needs to admit that Mrs. Horner will die and visit her friend while she’s alive. That will be enough for now. Perhaps a blood donation in the future after she has some time to think on it.

Luann will never be a useful or generous person because she is an infantile, selfish, self-centered brat who just talks big. She just puts on an act for Mrs. Horner, who doesn’t know the real Luann at all. This guy Phil (aka General Guilt Trip), is putting her on the spot (after she declared she wanted to do something) so now she’s desperately trying to wiggle off the hook. Here’s an idea – maybe she could actually give Mrs. Horner a real Christmas gift. Not a coupon, not something she got last year, an actual gift. Just a thought.

Well Phil just gave Luann an easy way out of what could have been an awkward situation for her. All she had to do was say “Okay, I’d love to donate blood, but I’m a little nervous? Would you be willing to give me some support?” Maybe he could hold her hand or talk with her while she drinks her orange juice afterwards. Could be the start of something nice—-or at least be a way for her to give back to her community. But looks like another missed opportunity for her!
