Mmm, normally I think, yeah, ok, these are comic strips and not real life…but bearing in mind the recent events in Norway perhaps this story line should have been pulled for the time being.
Tara’s kind of lying about arrows not being used for hunting anymore. In any case I hope whoever’s in the background is a competent adult. (She probably isn’t all that competent.)
It’s an official from the CDC to fine everyone for not social distancing and wearing frikkin masks. Oh wait, I’m in WA state. Everyone else is back to normal except us.
The oldest known evidence of arrows comes from South African sites such as Sibudu Cave, where likely arrowheads have been found, dating from approximately 72,000–60,000 years ago according to the Wikipedia.
Tara is very careful and Luann has managed to turn it into a learning experience. But that woman looks like trouble. Is she one of the parents? One of the school teachers? Dunno, but I’m afraid her presence is not a good sign.
Luann is not a certified teacher and bringing in a weaponized stranger should be grounds for Lu-girl’s dismissal. Maybe the lady at the door with the shades is a helicopter mom ready to start screaming.
Have you seen Life Below Zero on National Geographic. It’s about people who live in Alaska and live off the land. The Hailstones have a grandson younger than these kids who already has his own bow & arrows. He has to wait a few more years for his own hunting rifle.
I’m still holding out that Tara’s bow is foldable. While I don’t nit-pick much on continuity and the drawing of daily strip, there were a few better ways to show she was into archery than a quiver of loose arrows with no bow.
On the third panel, for a moment I thought someones hair got raised up in a moment of shock, but then I realize it is just her black pants on not the head of a student!
Hmmm a disgruntled looking parent? I go with that because she is wearing a coat and sunglasses with purse. Tara and Luann are doing a good, safe job discussing the history of archery—no danger—but given the ridiculousness today on the whole issue of covid-19 policy at school boards with members getting death threats and teachers being told to present the “good” side of the Holocaust it would not be surprising if this is trouble for Luann and Tara. I hope not though, they are explaining appropriately the history or archery (with mild hilarity ensuing).
LuAnn should have cleared this with the principal first! Any outsider coming into the school should be cleared, especially one with a weapon. If this strip was 1965, it was different. We used to shoot rifles at the ROTC rifle range downstairs.
Shooting in Kenosha WI, 3 dead 2 critical. it’s a sign of the times and our American culture that it barely makes the news. I’m for more gun control, much more.
Humm, it appears a high minded, very opinionated and possibly troublesome individual has darkened the doorway. In these times, I think I see an issue developing.
I remember when gun safety ( Eddie the Eagle) was taught in school funded by the NRA. Gone now for a couple of decades. Hunter safety courses taught by state game and fish begin at age 11 in most states. Before gun powder, archery was the name of the game if you wanted to eat something besides fish or domesticated fare. Like Tara is saying, 70,000 years old.Shall we deny this too?
I believe the movie series “Hunger games” alluded to this very thing.Archery sales and instruction soared with women after Katness Everdeen showed what a woman with a bow and a quiver of arrows could accomplish.
Alternate ending: Tara aquits herself so well, inspiring kids and teaching them safety, instead of firing Luann the principal hires Tara to work part time.
So I see Luann is doing the weird stiff-arm stance in the third panel once more. And not content with bringing the armed unauthorized adult onto the school grounds, she has now invited her into a school building. This also puts paid to Trilogy’s argument yesterday that Luann couldn’t be blamed for Tara hopping the fence because it was happening right then and Luann hadn’t had time to stop her yet. Like Shannon’s misbehavior, Luann decided once more to assist in the wrongdoing rather than stop it. See everyone, this is why you don’t try to excuse Luann’s idiocy by saying she just hadn’t noticed it yet. Because eventually she WILL notice and still fail to do the right thing.
I taught archery to Cub Scouts for years. My Rangemaster safety rules were clear. First violation, sit one round. Second violation, watch the rest of the day. There was rarely a second violation. :-)
Hey Aladar30, I think this shows that last week really was just treading water instead of introducing a status quo change to Luann’s college career, wouldn’t you say? You may not have made an official wager but you still made a prediction, after all. Still, let’s see what the rest of the week has to offer.
The one standing at the door is waiting because she was actually scheduled for a show and tell, and now Tara is there taking the time she would have had. Under her coat is an AK – 47, an M – 16, and a Smith and Wesson .357 that she was supposed to be showing the class. No ammo, though.
I guess some folks don’t like reality and kids aren’t allowed to talk or learn about it. Thank you, “educators” for abdicating your responsibility to teach. Guess we need to move on so the next indoctrination session can start.
Tara was approaching her subject correctly with the kids; it’s the boy with the shaved sides, dark hair and glasses who is trouble. But having climbed over the fence, Tara is trespassing. Misunderstanding is on the way and Luann’s job could be on the line if she is seen to have violated a safety code.
Both “Miss Luann” and Tara seem to be proceeding responsibly, but the little instigator in the audience of kids could too easily push Tara into the Danger Zone, I fear. And who is the Ominous Figure at the right? Is Tara about to be busted for carrying a Dangerous Weapon?

Oops.
Judging by the sunglasses, the shoulder purse, and the indignant hand on the hip I think We’re looking at a parent.
Time to issue an “Irate Parent Alert” and for Luann to update her resume.
Which is too bad.
Tara never got around to telling the kids about the bow was effectively used by the English against the French during Agincourt. :-)
