Of course this is not going well, Bets, because you assumed Luann was an empty vessel whereas she has lots of depths and interests. Now if only the writers would seize on some of these and write some good – tight – stories.
Poor Luann. She’s been written to have so many potential paths that… we don’t really get to see her ever actually take one.
I honestly have no clue which of these paths has the most potential for storytelling in the strip BUT if the Evanses wanted to have Luann workshop ideas like becoming someone who works on an educational show with songs and / or puppets it would combine these interests and make it so she could utilize her skills. Honestly, it’s probably something that would be a best case scenario for her. She could even get some of the strip characters with less ambitions or things going on and start a creative venture with them. (For example, if she got Tiff and Bets involved they could stop this sad attempt at being brand managers)
Also, I’m tiring of Bets and Tiffany being so smug. They’re not exactly bursting with these fabulous life-skills they mock Luann for lacking. Bets and Tiff are business majors who named their business “Batub,” need I even elaborate?
The difference between liking something and being passionate about it is one of ‘degree’. We can like a lot of things, but if someone is passionate about something, they are consumed by it. It’s like the difference between a shallow pool and an ocean. Luann likes to write and teach, but I don’t know if she feels as if she wants to do either one of those things every day of her life…
“Time for ruthless prioritization and monetize the heck out of it until you burn out and can’t stand the thought of it any more but can’t because you forgot how to function in a 9 – 5 job!” – Honest trailer for becoming an influencer or personal brand.
Yep. Like I said, Luann is bland. As in blank. She has no passion which makes her not interesting. Bernice is passionate about psychology. Tiff is passionate about starting a business. Beta is passionate about being an influencer which she can’t be at the moment because of Gunther. Speaking of the devil, Gunther is passionate about creating costumes. Stefani is passionate about becoming Mrs Kip Lee. Nil is passionate about art. Jack is passionate about fitness. Yep, comparing to her friends, we can see what Luann is lacking. She has things she likes to do but doesn’t have one thing she is particularly interested in. We might never find out unless Tiff orBets know how to draw that out of her. Or lead her to it
Why, oh why, does anyone “need a passion”? To “have a passion” implies that you are a monomaniac. It’s entirely acceptable to have a variety of interests about which you have strong feelings without being laser-focused on just one thing. I’d argue that someone with a single dominating passion might not be someone that you would want to spend a lot of time with.
Shoog Daddy hunting as Sexy❤️Luann with Stunning Ann❤️Eiffel. Duh. Sexy❤️Luann has already been branded, as it were, by our Gorgeous, Heroin(e), Fabulous Ann❤️Eiffel! No wonder we all ❤️ Ann❤️Eiffel AND Our Be❤️ed ❤️Count!! TTFN and hope all goes Peachy. Count… OUT!
Bets is starting to lost her enthusiasm, let’s hope that, after everything she has done and said, she doesn’t decide to give up at the first difficulty. Tiffany, on the other hand, seems to be starting to see something to work on. Luann’s indecisiveness may be the key!? They need to help her choose one thing and stick with it, but this will be very difficult because is her true main problem. I hope they’ll carry on with Luann’s skils in writing comedy and push her to start volunteering at the animal shelter, maybe the same where Jack volunteers.
lol! Luann is hardly boring. She has many interests. I can relate to that. Perhaps she just needs to focus on one or find a way to combine a couple. Like writing a funny story about animals and illustrating it. You can’t rush or force creativity though.
Everyone always things everyone else is more ‘vacant’ than them. If you begin to think that about someone, try to get to know him or her better. Most of the time, you’ll be surprised.
Luann is supposed to be 18, 19 years old, and, hasn’t found one thing (or, one person,) to be passionate about? No wonder Betts, and, Tiffany, thought she was a perfect mark for their rebranding scheme.
You people amaze me!! For YEARS you have complained that Luann has not grown or developed into anything near someone her age should have done. No dimension, no definition, nothing. Now G & K are trying to help the character grow (supposedly) with the help of her “friends” who have seemingly grown into characters of the appropriate 20-something age group. All you can do is (B)witch about what a lame storyline it is. Most days I read the top comments and realize what a real car wreck you all have made of everything and move along to other comics. Today something gave me a passion!! ;-)
Bets and Tiffany have no idea what they are doing. They should ask very specific questions, not open ended ones that leave to vague answers. Something like “which do you like better, cleaning up litter at the beach OR spending the afternoon at the library?” Playing chess or roller skating?
I think most people have many interests, not just one passion. People who can talk about many topics are much more interesting that people who can only talk about one topic.
Wow, the strip is admitting what many of us have known for years: Luann has nothing she’s passionate about, which makes her a pretty boring character. Now if they could only do something about it instead of letting it just be fodder for punchlines.
This story line continues to be fun. We are learning a couple of things. Luann is interested in lots of things, not just one thing. You see folks, this cartoon is taking place in modern times, and these are young people, not silly old boomers! Funny thing about us old boom booms, we just can’t seem to shut up and stop acting like we invented sliced bread once up a time. All the old time class clowns just can’t get over themselves. Food for thought on a pretty nice Wednesday! ;-)
Passion is not a good brand indicator. You just end up dressing the part & fake it till you make it (& you may not) with passion. In short, passion and a buck fifty will buy you a cup of coffee. Ask what Luann perceives her strengths are, what other people have complimented her on and positive feedback she has received, and ask how Bets and tiff can HELP LUANN emphasize those qualities. Branding is playing to your strengths not your weaknesses.
I hope Bets can see how stupid this idea is. First, Luann has lots of “passions” and she doesn’t need their help. And second, there is something nefarious about them thinking they can convince a person to quit being who they really are. Tiffany is too obsessed with the opportunity to criticize Luann to realize that the only thing they offer their “clients” is a slick veneer that will be insincere and eventually crumble.
At this point, Luann is far more inspired and spiritually honest than either of those two bimbos can ever hope to be.
Actually Betts it’s going quite well. With your ridiculous idea of branding, Luann is discovering who she is, and realizes she doesn’t need rebranding.
I have a passion for a thing that is a whole lot of things, but nobody has done it before and when I try to explain they always shove it into a mental pigeonhole of something they’re familiar with. If I had the money I would set it up and show them, but it would take a fortune.
The thing about having a grand passion? What happens if your really not good at it? What happens if, after 20 years of practice, what ever your passion was just lies flat and everyone says “Oh, how nice…” and walks on by. But with lots of interests? If one falls flat, then you move on to the next. Life doesn’t get boring (and neither do you).
It’s nice to see that Luann is passionate about activities and things other than guys. It shows she has matured from the boy crazy adolescent she was in high school; I think she’s doing a great job. Clearly Tiff and Bets are not prepared to deal with real human beings; I’d like to see them answer questions as well as Luann.

Pick writing, Lu. If for no other thing than to appease these ladies.
By the way.
Ask the ladies what THEY are “passionate” about.
The “answers” might be interesting…….,
