“Well, I was thinking yesterday there might be a fantasy sequence coming. Chances look good. With Atlantis as the theme. I’ll wager a “tail” will be involved. And it won’t be Monstro’s!”
This was a thought I had back on Tuesday! One of the few of my prognostications to come to fruition!
Geez. That is a pure fantasy romance novel – and NANCY reads it? Ugh. And now Bernice. A good avenue to escape the reality for a bit, I suppose, but a meremaid romance? Please 9_9
“Jack…” Skip jack? Amber jack? Black jack? Crevalle jack? Jack Dempsey? ( a fish named after the boxer apparently due to its aggressiveness). jack mackerel? leather jack? yellow jack? or northern pike (called jackfish in western Canada, according to the Wikipedia page listing names of fish).
I think Jack would be a good choice for pretty much any of the “righteous” ladies in the Luanniverse.
He is not as strapping as Gaston, but neither does he have the bad attitude. He is not as brilliant as Maurice, but he still seems to have the same levelheadedness as LeFou. My only concern is that he could be seduced by the battery of superficial charms that Belle brings to the table.
Assuming that Jack can maintain his moral compass and get past the amoral vixen that is Belle, I think pretty much any young lady in the Luannaverse could be happy with Jack.
As Bernice reads, she falls into a dream sequence wherein she meets an underwater lover. Unfortunately, it turns out to be the not so Incredible Mr. Limpet holding out what appears to be the Shakiest Gun In The West. Or something like that. Will this retain it’s “G” rating?
.
Or will this turn into a Knotts – y situation? ‘Don’ we now our undersea apparel and hang on!
It didn’t take Bernice long to pick up the enjoyment of pleasure reading. Even the main character in the story, Beatrice, almost sounds like Bernice. On page 218 Jack swims in with fangs and a passionate love scene takes place.
OK, any takers yet on who will end up with Jack? Lu or Bern, or neither? And, if one of the two, what will happen to Lu’s/Bern’s relationship? Not sure…. Lu needs somebody… If not Gunther, or any of the others, why not Jack?
The story will end just as Bernice gets to the hanky-panky and when we rejoin her literary adventures months later she’ll be smoking in bed with the covers pulled up to her chin. Isn’t that what usually happens in GnK’s stories.
Getting deep into that “bodice ripper” Nancy gave, Bernice’s subconscious admits that she’s at least physically attracted to Jack. Now when the rest of Bernice catches up, and, how far this will go, we could ask Greg, but I’m sure he won’t spill what he’s got ploted.
Obviously her hormones are acting up. Perhaps it wasn’t a good idea to stimulate them Nancy, but I know you just meant to relieve some of her stress though maybe via romance novels best of options.
I had to read this a couple of times before I realized that the words said “Beatrice” and not “Bernice”. I kept wondering how this book just happened to have a character named Bernice. Who was a mermaid. --I guess it’s now confirmed without a doubt that Bernice has a crush on Jack.
It’s a question starry-eyed fans SHOULD be asking.
But oh nooooooooo.
Everybody has jumped the “Good Ship Jack and Luann,” and set sail on the “Berntannic” which is headed full steam into a large iceberg that looks a lot Jack.
Those fans are prancing, dancing and sipping champagne with reckless abandon, when they SHOULD be disguising themselves as women and children and running Pell-mell for the lifeboats. (Sigh)
So what will startle- wake Bern up from this pleasant dream?
1) Muscular Merman Jack showing up with Mermaid Luann under his arm?
2) The always welcomed Sharknado?
3) A monstrous man-eating squid that looks suspiciously like Ann Eiffel?
4) Davey Jones emerging from his locker singing “Hey, Hey, We’re the Flunkies?”
5) Beloved (?) Brother Ben who has fallen overboard from a troop ship and now Bern must decide whether to save Ben or remain with Jack?
6) Or Rabid Sea Squirrels making a Bee-line for Bernice’s hair.
YOU decide. Meanwhile, I’m going to request the band to play “Nearer My Gaw to thee,” while I have a third cup of COFFEE and enjoy the pandemonium, as the “unsinkable” Bernice slips beneath the waves. :)
She can’t even fantasize without her glasses. Honestly, I’m sure there’s a better match for her somewhere, other than Jack. Just like somewhere is the perfect man for Luann!
Now. This is Reading for Pleasure! Also, I love how the marine-themed novel connects with the fact that Jack has gives Bernice a goldfish as a gift ♡. And Bernice is reading next to the aquarium with Monstro looking at her curious ♡♡♡! It’s such a romantic and beautiful strip ♡.
Just a reminder that I called “mermaid porn” on Tuesday. Oh, and so long Ben, we barely knew you. But you really should’ve expected it; you know how things go for love interests in Luann.
Were Beatrice’s delicate scales shimmering alluringly work better on Jack than salamander pheromones worked for Gunther in 2015: https://www.gocomics.com/luann/2015/05/13
So … what about Ben? Is that going to be resolved or answered? Was it just a plot device for momma Nancy to give Bern a way to relax or is this just another plot device to get conflict between Bern and LuAnn and Jack or can they all just move in together and live like Jack, Janet and Cindy did in Three’s Company?
My faint hope that Nancy had handed Bernice a genuinely well written work of literary fiction has been dashed… The Bernice and Jack possible romance feels forced to me. I don’t really believe it.
love the art work, how Bern and Monstro merge into a fantasy scene… the flickering blue waves leading into the undersea world. The pleasure of reading fiction is making your own images. I remember the Harry Potter books being just basic fun reading; I read the 1st few sentences of the first book standing by a table in Barnes & Noble (years ago) and that sealed it for me.
Is anyone else distressed that rather than face her anxiety about visiting her brother she is being enabled by both Jack and Nancy to just avoid it? It is sort of sad, because her brother would really like to get to know his sister. Hopefully Luann will persevere.
Why did G&K even bother with Ben? There was drama to get to the bottom of. Now we get Bern and fish fantasies. Still not comfortable with Nancy giving Bern a bodice-ripper to read. All sorts of awkward. I couldn’t imagine a surrogate mother figure handing me a soft-porn book to read. Jack doesn’t really seem interested. Bern gotta stop with the unrequited crushes she falls into.
Why does everyone think this is a soft porn book? Not all romance novels are, you know. Not that I would know first hand, you understand. Give me a good medieval murder mystery every time and leave the romance to others. On the other hand…I DID enjoy Outlander and the other books in the series, and I suppose you could call that “soft porn.” (Seen the series? Yeah, okay, soft porn it is.)
