The impending failure of Tiffany’s venture is gonna hit her hard. The guys aren’t going to work for free and don’t they already have a job at The Fuse? For someone living in a mansion, It’s weird to see her so THRILLED for a lousy $300 payday.
Tiff, do you have a plan or are you making this up as you go along? I know you have the brains to do it and have the gumption but lots of ventures fail for lack of planning…
I wonder if Tiffany is aware of health/safety requirements for food service and zoning laws against running such a business in a residence? However, points for Les to have the good sense to ask for compensation.
It’s a home business now? Instead of an assignment? Well, let’s drop out of school, I guess. (May not be such a bad idea. Mooni Uni has strange ideas, when it comes to course work.)
I thought TJ was part or full owner of Club Kablooey so I wonder what he plans to do, cooking for a private dinner when he should be cooking for Cafe Kablooey. He also should have asked Tiffany about licensing, zoning variances, etc. All the little things that he (TJ) had to deal with setting up his food truck and Cafe Kablooey. There is a Shannonisque level of magical thinking about all just like he prior Tara arc.
Wow – This is a cartoon – but hard to believe EVEN Tiffany would direct the cafe employees to her dinner – without asking their availability and letting them know what’s in it for them.
Les has the real question here… and as you may recall, Tiff was stripped of her “Miss Chamber of Commerce” title and honors for running her little “Meals For Firefighters” scam, of which TJ was a part..
Les is asking the important question. Tiffany can’t pay 3 people enough for their work. Plus, formal attire means no pirates… This idea is increasingly becoming a great chance for Tiffany to learn from her mistakes. I hope she will ask Gunther if he thinks Bets will like this.
Hilarity will ensue in the end, as it’s doing now but It is not a good idea for Tiffany to push for Tres Tres, when her customer, Bets, made it clear that is not what is wanted. On the low money and resources it occurs to me this is Easter week, and the loaves and the fishes story might be metaphorical, stretch I admit. But somehow I think it will come off.
Elegant? What happened to pirates? Is she going to put together the classy dinner and Bets is going to come in and flip her lid because it’s not pirates?
Before TJ plans the menu, shouldn’t Tiffany tell him she has a very limited ingredient list?
And Les, forget wages. Tiffany’s only making $300 on this which is going to go to the food and staging.
Les asks the right question (as sometimes happens). 300 dollars isn’t nearly enough to pay for all this. Now Tiff has (to her credit) done good networking, made real friendships—but she still has a tendency to take people for granted. Ox has a crush on her, he’ll work for nothing (and nothing is precisely what he’ll get). TJ likes the job she does as waitress, he’ll play along, loves to cook (but he’s got a business to run). Les likes Tiff (in more ways than one), but he’s no Ox, and he wants to know what he’s being paid, which is basically nothing. Just decorating the house the way Bets wants will eat up most of the budget. It’s a good learning experience for Tiff, but definitely not a good earning experience.
Oh well, let’s see where it goes. I don’t pay to read this strip, and it costs me just ten seconds of my time every morning. For the record, I liked the last storyline better. ;)
“And Tiffany said “Let there be commerce! “,And behold, there was commerce! Who knew it was that simple? Why Are we wasting precious moments writing comments? We could be making millions!
Usually, when Les talks, I think, “How can you possibly say that without being embarrassed?” But, today, I’m just wondering why he’s the only one saying that.
Once again Tiff leaps before she looks. Don’t think the DeGroot’s are going to appreciate her commandeering the staff. And since TJ is the co-owner of the Fuse, how does he figure he can just close it and cook for Tiff.
This is why we snarl. There are good characters in this strip, people we might care about. But the plotting is just so slapdash and unrealistic that it makes them all just look like fools.
I always had the impression that G&K wrote TJ as the kitchen/wait staff assistant supervisor, translation > $25/hour plus a share of the tips. More weird proof G&K have not worked a regular job in decades.
Frank, Nancy and Tiffany are going to run into good ole American Market Dynamics. Competition for labor. Maybe Frank and Nancy will have to add a Non-Competition Clause to their employee handbook.
Folks are asking why this group would even consider working this “booking.” Well!
TJ wants to get his hands on the McKitchen. Ox is in love with Tiffany. Only Les is asking for monetary compensation. After all, he has a prior oral contract with Tiffany to split tips from the KK.
Creo que sería más fácil recontratar al personal que fué despedido por Ann Eiffel para que vuelva a trabajar en la mansión Farrell, y que ellos ayuden en el proyecto de Tiffany a cambio de un bono extra.
Good to see Tiffany in a planning, take charge mode about her “assignment”. Les, though, provides a reality check with one question. The business plan?? If she goes forward with the business, how can the staff split their time and will they want to? I wonder if Bets is back at the mansion redecorating?! :-o
So now Tiffany the waitress is giving orders to her coworkers AND her boss, who seems to be okay with it? Highly unlikely, as is the possibility of success of Tiff’s ill-conceived enterprise. And Les is going to be sous-chef? Sure he is, in a pig’s eye.
Tiffany has gone off the deep end….. in a way far more “loony” and “crazy” than the very best of any episode of any of Lucile Ball’s many famous television programs:
1. This is supposed to be her CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENT!
2. Just because Bets is foolish enough to pay $300 to eat dinner at Tiffany’s McMansion (and is brazen enough to demand it to be pirate themed to boot) does not mean this is going to be any sort of long-term, lucrative business venture for Tiffany to engage in.
3. Of course, there is also the factor of the owner- (Tom Ferell)-of-the-McMansion’s opinions on the matter…. if he is ever aware enough that something is going on.
4. I could understand Tiffany trying to cajole her “The Fuse” friends into helping her do this “non-gratis” as a class assignment, but as a business venture?!?!?
The above makes today’s scene just ludicrous. So, what could be afoot?
A. Maybe…. Annie Eiffel will somehow catch wind of whatever this “themed dinner” turns out to be, and it gets Tiffany in hot water and somehow Annie is redeemed in some fashion in Tom “Cat” Ferrell’s eyes (or loins, at least)?
B. Maybe TJ will be the chef and the whole McMansion will go “kablooee” in the process….. forcing Tiffany, Tara, Luann, and Bernice to all reach the simultaneous conclusion that they want to all become “roomies” and they find some amazing four bedroom apartment exactly half way between Pitt CC and Mooney U.
C. Bets and “Gun” come and eat and do a “social networking” profile of the experience, and great hoards of folks nationwide begin to cluster around the McMansion and TJ becomes the next Gordon Ramsey.
Good for you Les! That’s the first thing I would have asked. Surprised at TJ though, he’s older and should know this is going to be a huge conflict of interest for him. When are they going to do this dinner? When are the Fuse and Cafe Kablooey not open that would coincide with a dinner party? I hope Tiffany can afford the items from his “menu”.
Tiffany is being pretty demanding. She’s lucky everyone seems to want to help her and is available to help her on short notice. But will Les dress as a pirate?
The writing of this arc, once you compare it to the previous arc of Tara sleeping in the Fuse, has led to a lose-lose situation here. If Tiffany is able to poach all of Frank’s employees away and nothing negative results, it just establishes that he is the worst business owner in the world. But if she does get in trouble for it, it just shows that her and Luann are the same in every way except for consequences. It reinforces the idea that Luann can do whatever she wants with no negative result, while Tiffany does the same kind of thing yet gets treated like a punching bag for it.
There used to be an upscale place near Disney in Florida called Arthur’s 27.
They were on the 27th floor of one of the hotels and had only 27 tables in the dining room.
They only seated One Party at each table each Night. Once your party sat down, the table was theirs until Closing time. I was told that the average dinner tab was around $100 per person, Before you added on Booze & Wine charges.
I was never willing to plan for a fancy dinner by making reservations 2 months or more ahead of time.
I don’t think Tiff will make much of a profit from this endeavor. Bets will pay $300 to Tiff to host supply a meal for 2 in an elegant, intimate setting. Assuming 4-staffers are paid $15 per hour for 3-hours of work (1 hour for set up/ cooking, 1 hour for Bets & Gunther to eat and 1 hour to clean-up) and $50 for the meal (including what Dez donates), the setting is provided free at Tiff’s house (candles, napkins, fancy plates, etc.), then Tiff’s total costs are about $230 for the entire evening. That’s $70 in profit or about 23.3% profit margin.
Tiff needs to let go of this as a business venture and see it as a one-off for her assignment. All sorts of WTF going on here: siphoning off The Fuse crew, Tiff thinking $300 will cover all expenses AND make a profit, Tiff being excited about $300.
