Probably expects Luann to tease her about it or accidentally tell someone. Which, is honestly a fair assumption.

No, being friends can do the opposite of that. As a friend is often someone you spend time with, whether it will be more embarrassing to talk about the situation or actually keep it hushed up, I have no idea.

Speaking of buzz-kills…

Very disappointing. Tomorrow there should be a conversation between Luann and Nancy about butting in. And just when Nancy was getting somewhere!

Luann is the poster lady of unearned confidence!

Bernice just killed Luann’s buzz.

My hope is that Luann finds a friend (NOT Tara, who also belittled her and was forgiven) at Pitts Community College and forgets about B. B is the past and Luann needs to concentrate on finding her footing in the present and future…

Luann you always make it about yourself. Bernice felt comfortable talking to your mom and not you. All the progress your mom made you just killed by being that selfish brat. It’s always about you.

Three weeks of this arc with no end in sight. So tomorrow is there a new story, or maybe back to Gunther?

Considering how well they did talking to Gunther about Betts, this seems the right call by Bernice.

Whoops, Luann. You’re assuming too much here. And for you Bernice haters, LUANN says Bernice is her BFF, so stop saying they couldn’t possibly be actually friends because Bernice is snarky with her. Luann knows the real Bernice – the introverted girl with a big vocabulary who enjoys using them and snarking is one of the best ways to practice. Snarking is an art and creative. Luann clearly knows this which is why she never seems to be OFFENDED like all of you Bernice haters are. If Luann is not offended and simply moves on from her snarks as if they don’t bother her, take her example and do the same, folks. Ah, before you say she is also judgmental, everyone is. Luann can be judgmental also. You don’t need to like it. Such as some of you might not like your spouse’s friends or children’s friends, etc. When you don’t like somebody, it’s because you’re being judgmental. It is human nature. Despite Bernice’s snarky personality, Luann likes her. Who are YOU to judge her?

Isn’t it about time for older brother Ben to leave for wherever he’s going next, so B can move back home with her own parents and Luann can forget about trying to make their former friendship work?

This was a necessary move by GnK since they had Bernice repeating herself for 5 or 6 years without any means of getting her to stop. One word from Luann and Bernice finally shuts up. What happens to fill the last three days of this week is a mystery.

Look at the difference in the expressions on the faces and the way the characters are talking in the last frame. Luann’s face is open and smiling, and she is saying ‘we’. B’s face is cold and angry, and she can only spare two words. There is nothing to suggest that B has any interest in Luann or Luann’s ideas at all. There’s only so many times a person can be treated that way before the person decides that there’s no point in trying anymore…

Well, that was predictable…

Frank hasn’t had a thrilling night like this since he watched a Hallmark Movie Marathon while eating marshmallows and drinking white wine spritzers.

Well at Least Les didn’t get uber scratched by his cat whilst trying to figure out the Gunther/Bets interplay!

Bernice doesn’t want to hear Luann say “Told you!”. After all Luann’s effort before the date to calm down and encourage Bernice, she now behaves like this… I wish the two BFFs had a serious conversation about this behavior. But it’s more likely that Luann will insist a little more and Bernice will tell her everything after a little resistance. Like always, but with Nancy around.

Based on how Luann treats her best friend I’d hate to see how she treats an enemy.

I’m guessing Luann never found out about that road trip Bernice and Delta took when they spent part of the time talking about how great it was that Luann wasn’t there.

2s a party / 3s a crowd at times. Wrong place wrong time. Different place different time better results. But I guess logic doesn’t always apply.

Luann just being curious and feels she can help her “BFF” (?). It’s also Luann’s home while Butthead is a guest. B is shallow and will never make a good Pyscho dr. B needs to go live with Delta, her character has no growth or reason to be here any longer. Evans is getting up in years and Karen has too much input in what used to be an entertaining strip instead of a soap opera (IMHO, flames ignored)

Bernice needs validation from an authority figure, and that is NOT Luann

There sure are lots of angry comments about this – my turn.

I’ve never liked Bernice’s treatment of Luann; I don’t buy that it’s just good-natured ribbing, even if the writers intended that. If you’re part of a friend group where they make you into the butt of their jokes as part of their “dynamic”, do not assume it’s all in good fun. Of course, Luann isn’t entitled to hear about how the date went; could Bernice not just give a casual, “Luann, I’d rather just get some sleep”?

Whether you’re on Luann’s side or Bernice’s side, I think most of us can agree that the situation is not good. I think they should part ways. Some friendships just run their course. Otherwise, I’d like to see a storyline that justifies why they are still friends that doesn’t rely on their shared history. What do they get out of it TODAY?

while the kitchen is public space, Luann deliberately barged in on a private conversation (with prior knowledge that she shouldn’t have had) and got what most would get under those circumstances.

I would think twice about opening up completely to a friend who is nosey and gossipy, too.

Luann comes swinging in to hear all about Bernice’s big night and revel in the glory for setting up the date. I love the way she is totally oblivious of the possibility that she might have done something that turned out badly for her “friend”. Luann is blissfully unaware of how her actions effect others, and her smug confidence today proves it. Maybe she can find another homeless person to shelter at the Fuse. That was a smooth move!

I think, that’s Bernice’s revenge for hiding from her this Tara’s cousin thing.

Time to move on to the next comic that might have a new story line in the last couple weeks. Will check back in a few days and see if anything has moved on.Must be vacation time so this story line is fill in and take up space.

They’ve been talking way longer than 10-15 minutes! It’s been over a week now!! haha! :D

I’m not looking at this in such broad terms compared to a lot of posters. Luann is the one who told Bernice that the fill-in was a date. She also pushed Bernice to go. Bernice has a valid reason not to want to talk to Luann about what took place.

Nancy didn’t offer any advice to Bernice, and served as a sounding board for Bernice to expound her anxiety. Luann isn’t in a position to offer any, either. The best thing for Bernice is to wait to see if Nil makes an effort to contact her.

Bernice should have said it was a boring art show and then have walked off.

Thru all of this, Bernice has never stated she wasn’t attracted to Nil. In fact, by being concerned with how she will face Nil, Bernice is acknowledging that she intends to see him again.

No worries! Luann didn’t understand any of the words Bernice was using (and Frank probably didn’t either) so it was still a private conversation with Nancy.

I’m glad that Nancy is there to see how Bernice treats Luann. Nancy invited Bernice to stay with them because she thought Bernice was Luann’s friend. Now Nancy will realized Bernice is not Luann’s friend. It is time for Bernice to move back home or at least out of the DeGroot house.

Does Greg Evans know anything about girls? Why is every female in this strip (other than the married ones) absolutely terrified of dating and romance. I know it’s a comic but this is a well-worn premise that is losing it’s punch.

We give Bernice hell for her “snub” today, but don’t forget. A couple of months ago it was Luann keeping (And hiding) Tara a “secret” from Bernice.

So “who” really trusts “who” in this friendship?

Some things can only be discussed with certain people. Not me, for instance, because I tell everything I hear, so don’t tell me anything you don’t want repeated — quite possibly imperfectly at that.

I’m not sure why I keep reading this comic, habit I guess. Because just about all the mains drive me nuts.

LuAnn might have just learned a valuable lesson, friendships are not equal. Where you see the friendship and where someone else sees it is not the same. You might think someone is your best friend and to them your not.

Luann could never have empathy for Bernice in this situation. Much like most of the commenters.

I think Bernie’s is embarrassed in front of Luann because Luann can see right through her bullshit and know exactly what’s going on.

Looks like Luann isn’t the one Berniece wants to talk to at all!!! If she had stayed in the other room and kept quiet she might have gained some insight into her friend’s dilemma but by barging in on a private conversation she caused Berniece to clam up. I get it—-Luann wants to be in the loop and she wants the same friendship she had with Berniece back in the old days. But time has changed all that. Luann may not realize it but she and Berniece have drifted apart. I feel sorry for her because I think she means well. She just has no reference point for Berniece and what’s going on with her right now.

For real.. Bernice needs to go away

These two have become very good at keeping secrets from one another. Berniece, because she doesn’t want to be teased and humiliated or gossiped about and Luann, because

Isn’t this all beside the point? At Jack’s request, Bernice went to Nil’s art show, kissed him, and is now worried about what he thinks of her, especially since he said so many heartfelt things about her. That’s what the arc is about; no one really cares about Luann’s supposed/pretended involvement, other than some friendly teasing about this being a date.

Some things you Cannot Share with your Best Bud because you Know they will Never stop giving you a hard time about it.

I have been reading Luann from the first strip, and like being frustrated when her crush, Aaron Hill, was so elusive, I feel frustrated that Luann isn’t allowed to mature. It is like reading a strip about highschool girls instead of college women.

Come to think of it, there have been quite a few lately….

I always say that Luannverse will find ways to heal it’s characters although with Luann, Bern, Tiff, Gunther, and now with Bets it seems like there is more arc development. Now. arguably, this tendency might extend to Jack and Nil temporarily? The main parties are young adults, along with Baby Boomer parents, which makes a logical framework to me for hilarity and story to ensue.

Nancy did not make any progress with Bern – she just lent an ear. Bern is insufferable. When snark is the only thing going for you, get going. Bern needs to go home and stop mooching off the DeGroots. Luann has become a friend good enough to crash with, but not to share confidence with. Luann needs to find direction and keep occupied so she doesn’t care so much about other people’s business: Pursue art, or drama, or teaching, but DO something. G&K letting her drift aimlessly is tired.

I completely understand Bern’s reluctance to talk to Lu about this. Luann wouldn’t be able to keep her mouth shut and would blab it all over town. Good choice, Bernice. And now, I want to know what Nil is thinking. If anything. Maybe he blew the whole thing off.
